    Post what's on your mind

I had to bring back this classic thread, and the reason I came back to VGC time and time again.

What's on my mind is gratitude for the journey from childhood to adulthood - and having the place still be around in some shape or form to look back on. Looking at some of my old posts as a kid, so many things I worried about all worked out in the end. It's crazy how as much as people tell you those things as a kid, you have to go through it to understand and appreciate it.

I also feel like I truly experienced a period of my life when I was/am truly happy after having a kid. It makes every day feel like your birthday.

I wonder what formative experiences and dates of passage will be unique to this generation. I hope to give him the best guidance I can.

Just got back from a work trip in Chicago. Longest I've been away from my kid, so I missed him so much.

So exhausted and haven't gotten any real rest or downtime to truly recover since the summer. Looking forward to trying to get some rest and get my energy level up again.

I just had a great hour of opening Pokemon card booster packs with my kids. We each took turns opening up our Elite Trainer Boxes (they were on sale 50% off and knew this would be fun) and they both really had a great time. I managed to pull a Charizard card for the first time in my life! My childhood 'Zard was bought at the swap meet, and now it shares a binder with this guy!

I really don't want to go down the expensive path of buying TGC, but every now and then doing something like this is probably going to become a mini tradition.

My mother-in-law almost did something really dumb yesterday.

She is staying at our house for Thanksgiving. She comes downstairs a little while ago and announces we're helping someone for Thanksgiving and Christmas. My wife was like, "what are you talking about?"

She says she found a family on NextDoor that needs help and she called them and talked to a man.

So my wife starts asking for more information and mother-in-law doesn’t want to say. She doesn’t like how my wife is often so skeptical of what her mom is saying (but has good reason to be). She’s just like “I got a handle don’t worry we just need to go get the stuff and bring it to him and go to his house” and so on.

We are like, no, tell us more about this guy. Show us the post online where you found him.

We find the post. It has his name attached. We look up where he lives and his background info. We know where he lives because he gave her his address directly on the phone.

We look him up. He’s been arrested several times recently for theft, making threats, and assaulting a woman last year in December.

He lives in a tiny shack house in the woods. That’s the address he gave her to go deliver food.

She was totally about to find herself in a very bad situation.

When she talked to him on the phone, she never got his name. We found that out through the online post. We were like, you didn’t ask for his name? And mother-in-law was like oh I didn’t think about it. So many things weren’t adding up.

I’m glad she did not give him our address or something like that. I would’ve been super mad. Probably enough to tell her to go home because now we have to worry for our safety.

I remember a time when the older generations told us, "don't believe everything you read on the Internet." And now it seems so many of them believe every meme and clickbait and scam post they find.

I remember Shin-Ra, an old member here, introduced me to Opeth. I liked "The Drapery Falls".

Just staying up, waiting for my black cat to come back inside.
it's 1am and I wanted to be in bed an hour and a half ago.

He's known for escaping but we thought we finally had the balcony all secured but nope, give him some motivation and unsupervised time and he will take his chances.

Wow. This might really be a stream of consciousness post.

Sleep deprivation is really not good for one's health.

My health is better than most but **** this is the 3rd time this year ive had a sore throat.
better.i guess sometime it's just unlucky.
or being around people who have something.
and not enough sleep again isnt helping.

I wonder if being around people who think it's OK to just start vaping when nearby is problematic...not a fan of vape heads...

So im juat sitting here writing stuff, waiting for Binsy to come back.
man, i hate how this new phone does auto correct.
How lazY have we become as a species...auto correct.
much better writing thia stuff on a computer but well...talk about lazy.

                  I think i heard a bell.
he normally gets bored and comes back within a couple of hours.
                  So should be due.

I feel this post will make me look like a wacko.
Ah well, im amongst like minded weirdos.

I think ill just keep writing till i think what I'm writing isn't interesting or start going blank.

Yep, I'm starting to blank, or trying to come up with something amusing but kinda getting nowhere.
I at least heap this is amusing to anyone who reads it.

                  Dam cat!

                  Games...
Yeah it's good playing Mental Omega at work.
I've just recently started trying to play with the game speed slightly higher.
I can do it, it is faster than I'd like but it feels like a good...Mental (ha!) Challenge
Used to play on 4 speed, now its on 5.
wish it had a 4.5 speed.

.maybe I should make some new maps.
Maybe a 4 vs 4 would be fun.
Man i love that I can make maps for a game that's over 20 years old and it feels fresh.

Are my mate and I the best duo in the world at Superstar Soccer 98?
                  Probably.
Are we giving away all out tactics and how to beat us by streaming the game...yeah we are.
But that is a sacrifice im willing to make so people can. Discover how cool the game is.

                  Now it's starting to rain.
That should bring the cat back in.
                  you would think.

Ok, now this is probably getting too long and isnt amusing anymore.

I might wrap it up soon.

                  Its 1:45am now.

Just thought id EDIT this in.

                  Binsy is back.
                  **** cats!

                  Time to get some sleep.

                  Yeah that will.do.

I joined the discord, but it's giving me this:
                    image.webp
I respect that this may have been necessary if you've been getting problems with bots or something, but I'm afraid I'm not gonna give Discord my phone number, so I'm just gonna be a perma-lurker and do my talking over here. Didn't want you to think the silent treatment was because I don't like you guys.

It's very surreal, coming back to the place that has had such an immeasurable on me during my teen years. It's been 20 years man, and here stands the remains of the vanguard from the wilder and more innocent, if not naive, times of the internet. When I found out vgc was back alive from the reddit thread, I could hardly believe it. When I arrived on the landing page of this place, I felt a skip in my heart. From the black and neon green to all the banners, it was like a time capsule had been opened. I know I was annoying and at times insufferable in my youth, and some members I didn't get along so great with, but you know I wouldn't trade any of that for nothing. All of you guys made impacts, some big and some small, but all of it added a little bit to me.

I can't state how big a part of my early life this place was. I sincerely hope everyone is in a place they are happy with, and here's to another 20 years you buncha oldfags.

There's a reddit thread?? Haven't ever seen VGC mentioned on there. I did preemptively start a subreddit for the site when I acquired it but there hasn't been any members/posts.
