Small Things You've Grown To Appreciate

As I have gotten older, I have found appreciation for small things that I didn't have previously. One of the biggest has been for nice glasses - fluid containment glasses, as opposed to eyeglasses. When I first moved into my home, I had went to various dollar stores and just picked up 4 to 8 packs of cheap plastic cups, often featuring whatever holiday was around the corner. When they would break down, get grimy, I would repurpose them for other things, and eventually throw them away. About 2 years ago, I was in a store and I saw a set of crystal glasses, 8 8 oz glasses and 8 14 oz glasses, and maturity finally compelled me to purchase them.

When I got home, I cleared out all of my cups, donated them, a few crafts, etc. And now every drink from a glass just feels... nicer. It's small, but it's something I've grown to appreciate so much that, weirdly, I now look forward to taking a drink.

What are some small things you've come across through the years for which you've grown more appreciative?

For me, I think it's life itself. I just never appreciated life, and how short it truly is until I had kids. I think having kids really shifted everything for me. It brought a sense of joy and happiness I never even knew was possible. I went from I don't care if I live or die as a youth to wow I really don't want to die any time soon because this experience is the greatest thing ever.

Other than that maybe time? Trying to be present every single day - staying in the moment. Trying to look around more. In a world where everything is a distraction, and everything is vying for your attention, slower meanings of communication like forums, trying to stay present, and trying to just feel everything is something I've been working on.

Being home. The house my wife and I bought is small and old, but it is comfortable and has enough of our personal improvements to it that it feels uniquely ours. Coming home from work or an outing, I just feel all stress drain out of me.

I'll never understand the obscenely rich, because I sink into my normal bed in my normal house in my sleepy little neighborhood and think to myself "This is the height of luxury."

Funny, I was at a birthday party for my nephew today and these 3 exact things came to mind and I wanted to steal away from the party to share, and saw these 3 listed in similar fashion.

Life - Appreciating what I have, what I have experienced, honestly assessing events that have passed that have formed and altered my life path.
Time - Appreciating the time I have, and USING it. Today, I got locked up in a 6+ hour event that I did... nothing.
Home - I don't have a massive home, but it's mine, and I can't help but melt the moment I'm in the driveway.
