Games You Have a Hard Time Revisiting

    Could be for any reason.

Been trying to revisit Half-Life 2 since it's crossed over 20 years, played it some up to certain points. Glad to have seen my very old saves 10 years ago remain intact, including ones very close to the end that I can just simply revisit and be like "done".

Yet I don't really feel like I want to go all the way through the game again. I mainly wanted to retain the good memories I've had playing it the first time around when it crossed it's 10th year anniversary. That was also the year, 2014, where I had gone through all of the Half-Life games from Black Mesa to Blue Shift to Opposing Force to Half-Life 2 to Episodes 1 and 2. So it was a like a month of Half-Life. This round feels a little different where I'm just touching on HL2 and can't be bothered.

Good question. I rarely return to a finished game. In fact, outside of Pokemon (multiple runs are necessary for Pokedex completion), I can only really remember finishing Ocarina of Time more than once.

Recently I've had an itch to play through either New Vegas or Mass Effect again, and I have them all installed and ready to go, yet just can't commit to them. Especially with new games sitting unplayed.

Mario 64. The way the camera works on the N64 is very annoying to me. However, I've heard the PC port has a modern camera, so I should give that a go some day.

Some PS1 games are hard to revisit. Syphon Filter. The framerate and graphics and all that are just rough.

Some games are so special to me in my memory, it's like I don't want to replay them. It's just such a sacred moment in time, I'd only want to revisit it during a special time. Sounds stupid - but as I write this post - I think I've just realized what the perfect time to revisit some of these classics are.

When my kid is old enough to play games.

Can't wait to play OoT with him and explain why it was so special to me as a 10 year old kid.

I truly hope you get to have this experience with your kid! Mine don't have the patience, or maybe it really is just interest, in Zelda games Although my son was able to finish Super Mario Odyssey and God of War 2018. He's worked a bit on GTA5 but always ends up back in a Fortnite or CoD lobby. But for us, playing Mario Kart, Splatoon, Arms, etc with the kids - the multiplayer games always seem to land.

Maybe not so much a "replay", but I purchased Zelda Wind Waker twice, on Gamecube and also Wii U, and never finished it once Just can't get it to click with me. Maybe the Switch 2 4K redo will get me!!!

              None.

It's a bit sad to see that you guys have had trouble with any of those games.

Maybe I'm lucky that I can just play these games and enjoy them as much as I always did.

I guess it helps that the N64 never became a retro console to me...always had one plugged in, never went a year without playing something.
So many awesome multiplayer memories and even with new people over the years, it was always a hit at Smash Tournaments and around Smashers in general.

Games iVe played through recently and loved:

Goldeneye (do a play through most years, moslty as a warm up for GolGoldeneye tournaments!)

Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge

Tiberian Sun (actually finished the game which I struggled with as a kid, really enjoyed the single player campaign!)

Ocarina of Time (played through it when i got Covid in 2021, was one of the most enjoyable weeks ive had in the past 5 years! The game has aged well, its still an absolute masterpiece and enjoyed it even more with Breath of the Wild fresh in the mind)

              Mario Galaxy
