Had a really vivid dream last night, so I thought I would revive this thread. I don't remember who posted the original one back in the day, but credit to them for the idea.
Post an account of any dreams you might have while you sleep.
Trigger warnings: car accident, falling, drowning
I was driving on the freeway at night in a small car. I had just come from a meeting with some people who didn't like me very much, but I had the impression that the meeting had gone well regardless.
I came to the top of a hill overlooking a series of waterfront bridges leading to a large city. I could see ahead that numerous other drivers were having difficulties at the bottom of the hill near the bridges. Some were stalled, facing the wrong way on the road, others were on the grassy median. Still, the road was clear enough to get through, so I just slowed down.
Even at my slower rate of speed, I skidded wildly as soon as I got to the area. I hit a bump in the road and was ejected from the car at a velocity much higher than I should have been, even if I hadn't been wearing a seat belt. I was flung hundreds of feet in the air in an arc over the water.
"Well God, I know I'm not very good at praying, but I could use a miracle if you don't mind," I thought at the top of the arc. I began to fall. My last thought before I hit the water was "Well, at least it didn't look like my car was going to hit anyone back on the road."
I held my breath and plunged below the water at about a 45 degree angle. I remained conscious against all odds, so I concentrated on the angle that I entered the water and tried to guage how deep I sank. I sank very deep indeed. Thinking grimly of my chances, I kept my eyes closed in order to focus and began to swim in the direction that I thought was upward. My thin jacket dragged at the water, but I didn't want to waste time getting it off.
My lungs aching, I noticed the area getting lighter through my eyelids so I opened my eyes to see white tile ahead of me. I was coming up in some kind of retaining pool inside a building. I managed to get to the surface and pull myself out of the water, gasping.
The building I was in had a kind of skyway leading back towards the bridges and there was a man standing at the windows, looking out into the night with a frown on his face. I approached him to see that he was one of the people I had had a meeting with earlier. He still didn't like me, but pleaded with me to help him find his young cousin, who had gone missing. That's where I woke up.
