Morita died Thursday at his home in Las Vegas of natural causes, said his wife of 12 years, Evelyn. She said in a statement that her husband, who first rose to fame with a role on "Happy Days," had "dedicated his entire life to acting and comedy."

Okay, what, in a month we've had the obituaries (admittedly unorthodox ones) of George Best, Eddie Guerrero, Rosa Parks, and Pat Morita, here on VGChat, all of whom were in the public eye in one way or another.

Yeah, okay, three of them were old and it was probably their time, but is this a byproduct of the winter months, or is it something altogether more sinister?

Posted by Acheron

Somebody write a novel where the success of the villain's conspiracy hinges on the death of those four people. Now.

Posted by WILLETH FOR MONTHS

Hah, that they're somehow inextricably linked. The villain has to be Kevin Bacon, of course.

Steve Buscemi gets to be the creepy Gollum-like creature who leads our hero (Sean Connery) to find who's truly behind this mess (Kevin Bacon).

Perfect grammar isn't to be expected from everyone, of course- but a complete absence of it is to be deplored.

If you've got that down, then you've won half the battle. The next bit is to actually have good ideas - but frankly, if your ideas are rubbish, a lot of stupid people will believe what you say if you say it in a posh manner. And a lot of people on VGChat are idiots.

Shut up. For invading the territories of so many different species, he repeatedly assumed the risk of animals resorting to violent methods of self-defense against him, and was bound to get what was coming to him sooner or later. I'm sure even he knew deep down inside he wasn't invincible, and this sort of thing happens when you toy with mother nature. I don't find it too shocking, personally.

I still don't think he was a bad guy or anything, and he certainly didn't deserve to die. But, this is another case of Man Vs. Nature. IMO, he was lucky something like this didn't happen sooner.

I don't know if that's pathetic or just badass. Either way, it's a shocker, I don't particularly care, but I didn't think he would die any time soon, especially from an animal like that.

Yeah, stingrays are generally very timid unless they feel threatened. He was probably trying to poke its genetals with a pointy stick or something.

Nutcase or not he was pretty cool. I kind of lost interest after he held his baby while feeding a crocodile, but I still thought he was sweet. I saw what happened to him like an hour ago, and I was shocked. After getting bitten by a snake 3 thousand times, a stingray killed him. It's so sad.:(

It left a hole about an inch in diameter, almost went through his leg and was pouring out blood. His buddy called coast guard who told him 70% of the victims pass out from the pain/trauma etc.

Dude survived, but he wont go in water again.

It's not called self-defence if they don't intend to hurt you. It's just that animals are far less intelligent than humans, and many are little more than robots with a very limited ability to think outside of instincts. They instinctively attack anything that may be a threat.

I heard something on the news from a cardiologist or someone like that, that if he hadn't pulled it out right away theres a chance they could have saved him, since removing it just increses blood loss and causes more damage. Must be a preeettttty slim chance... I mean, once something punctures your heart isn't it just a matter of time before it fails.

What are you talking about? Have you ever seen his show before? Wrestling animals the way he does could easily be interpreted as intention to harm them. He doesn't just go strolling through the swamp. He actually jumps on crocodiles, drags them into boats and such, and teases them with food. Eventhough he's not trying to hunt them or anything, he is invading their territory and handling them violently. He does it with many different animals, and even if he's just grabbing them so he can educate people visually as well, the way he handles them puts them in terror, despite whether or not he's trying to hurt them.

How would you like some one to storm into your house, grab you by the legs, and nearly strangle you to keep you from opening your mouth?

Posted by WILLETH FOR MONTHS

Yeah, one of the few things I know is that if you ever get stabbed and there's something lodged in you, you don't remove it.

Quoted post: How would you like some one to storm into your house, grab you by the legs, and nearly strangle you to keep you from opening your mouth?

No one would like that, then again we're not crocodiles who are far tougher than any human hopes to be. Most of the time he did that was to save the crocodiles or relocate them to a better place. So, whether he hurts them or not, which he most likely doesn't, is moot since in the long run it's most likely better for the species as a whole.

Posted by Iris

It's not moot. They have no idea what's happening, so it's not shocking or disturbing to see them defend themselves when being wrestled. Whether or not it's for their own good isn't what I was replying to.

Posted by Vampiro V. Empire

It's moot. Not to mention I'm sure they barely even notice three humans stacked on top of them. Their minds can't even comprehend what's going on, so it's not a big deal. They just know that something's happening and react instinctively. Nothing more.

Posted by The Judge

While I wouldn't like being wrestled out of nowhere, if someone moved me into a mansion shortly after, I think I'd forgive them.

Posted by Linkman

First of all. He wasn't even messing with the stingray that killed him. Apparently he just swam over it, and it launched it's tail up and the barb hit his chest. Because it takes stingrays WEEKS to grow that barb back, they only use it if they feel seriously threatened. I don't think him swiming over it would have been enough to threaten it that much. So yeah, freak accident.

Second of all, the guy knew what he was doing, and usually explained exactly why he was doing something that seemed harmful to an animal. For example, if he blindfolded a crocodile, it was to prevent it from seeing what was going on, which would calm it down. Which was necessary not only for them to restrain it, but the crocodile's health. If it got too frightened, it'd release a chemical into it's blood. Too much of said chemical could kill the crocodile.

Posted by Iris

So what if it's instictive? It's instictive to defend yourself. Humans do it too. And yes, if 3 people start jumping all over them, they will think it's with the intent to harm. It's hard to completely comprehend the intentions of a totally different species when they're in your territory.

Posted by Vampiro V. Empire

Quoted post: So what if it's instictive? It's instictive to defend yourself.

It's instinctive, but we're able to think and realise that maybe the attacker isn't even a threat nor poses any harm. It matters whether it's instinctive or not because if it is, it means barely anything. It doesn't mean the croc is in pain or suffering, it's just acting as it was programmed.

Quoted post:
And yes, if 3 people start jumping all over them, they will think it's with the intent to harm. It's hard to completely comprehend the intentions of a totally different species when they're in your territory.

But they're not intending to harm it or even harming it at all. It's aslo very hard to comprehend anything at all when your dumber than a dog. Like Linkman said, there's reasons why Steve did the things he did to animals. He always explained the reasons and reassured the viewers that the animal wasn't being hurt... and I think I'd trust him more than you. It doesn't matter if he's in its territory or not, because in the long run, he's trying to help the animal. Do you really think someone who loves animals more than humans would mean to harm it? Nah.

Posted by Iris

I never said Steve did it to hurt them. He can tell his viewers that he's not harming it, but try telling it to a crocodile when you jump on its back and clamp its mouth closed. I mean, if I was in the woods and a bear was following me, I'd instinctively try to get further away from it. I don't know if it's trying to hurt me, but it's very possible. Acting on your instincts doesn't always make you some simple brute.

Posted by Vampiro V. Empire

But he's still hurting and terrifying them, right?

I don't think you realise just how large and thick-skinned a crocodile is. These are animals who are absolutely vicious and destroy eachother physically every day in the wild... yet, live on like nothing happened. They're ****ing tough as hell. A two-hundred pound human jumping on its back and clamping it's mouth shut (cause that's so terrible, right?) isn't going to do much damage. It's most likely doing no damage at all.

Oh, and that bear, yeah, he's most likely going to severely hurt and/or kill you. It's instinctive to run because you know he's going to rip you apart the second his claws come in contact. I never implied that crocodiles are stupid and brutish because they base all their actions on instincts, I out-right said they're stupid because... surprise, they are. They don't have the mental capacity to think like a human or even a dog does. They act on instincts because they have to. I'm not holding that against them.

As an Australian, and as someone who, well I don't know how to put it, but the man was a legend and did so many good things, he died way to young, hopefully his legacy lives on. :(

Posted by Arwon

Iris, I can't vouch for other animals, but the thing with Crocodiles is you kinda have to manhandle them to be safe around them, and they do get places where they're threatening to humans or, hell, boat engines. They're f*cking fast, powerful and very very strong, but there's a number of tricks you can and must employ in order to handle them in relative safety. Steve Irwin is far from the only person to ever straddle a crocodile, blindfold it, and tie its jaw shut. That's actually standard procedure for dealing with a crocodile that's someplace it shouldn't be and in northern Australia, if you call the cops and they send people to deal with a problem crocodile, that's what they do. Steve just did it a bit more theatrically.

Posted by Iris

Regardless, if you do manhandle it, it will attempt to defend itself, which is what I was pointing out.

But I do think it's funny that he was never elected President or even Vice President. He took the place of Vice President Spiro T. Agnew, under President Nixon, and then when Nixon resigned, Ford assumed the Presidency of the United States without ever running for the office. I'm fairly certain he's the only US President to have done that.

And he's also the only US President to grant a full pardon to a president who had been impeached and chose to resign his office rather than undergo an embarrasing investigation that would prove him guilty.

But I suppose Ford is okay because he didn't fire MacArthur, unlike Truman.

I'm shocked that James Brown lived as long as he did. Honestly, he led a rather reckless lifestyle.

But I do appreciate his immense contribution to music. I don't think anyone in the USA hasn't heard "I Feel Good". It's unfortunate that most people can only associate him with just that one song, even though it is a great song.

My personal favorite James Brown song is "Living in America".

James Brown was one of the most influential musicians ever to release an album. And he kept performing his heart out until shortly before he died. He's an innovator, a fine dancer and a staple of American culture and will be remembered as such.

will anyone no why?? not that we care.to me she looks like courtny love's sister or something, she talks like shes on some much drugs and had 1 to many surgeries.

Posted by Skitzo Control

She's from the south, Vg200x, that's why she sounded like a drunk with Down's Syndrome.

When she starred in Playboy Magazine, she looked much like Marilyn Monroe, and although she was an object of beauty in her older days, she had become nothing more than punchline throughout the US. Perhaps it's best she's gone, so she no longer has to endure the constant battering from tabloids, press, and talk show hosts.

Meh, all she really was was a fat chick that got skinny and dated old men for their money. I never really had anything against her though. R.I.P.

I feel kind of bad about it. Hearing about people die doesn't make me really happy.

My friend called me and told me about 4 hours ago. I laughed. Well, I used to fap to her back in her Playboy days.

Rest in somewhat of a peace, old fappin' buddy.

Posted by mis0

If there was any doubt about her drug use, that should be gone now. She looked totally fukken stoned on the ET commercials I saw, and same with her lawyer-boytoy Howard Whatever Stern. A fitting end for a terrible wreck.

Posted by Raptor

One less rich blonde bimbo with a chest as artificial as her personality. I can live with that.

Death is nothing to be happy about, or laugh about.. Unless said death is the occurance of someone flying into a brick wall at 70+ miles an hour, like one of those old Cyote/Roadrunner cartoons.

Jesse!! Change my name to "Down The Sun".. Do it now.

Posted by Linkman

Can't say I'm shocked.

I do however feel really good for the family of the old man she married, knowing he'd die soon, just to inherit his money. She was a depressed *****, who probably O.D.ed on depressants.

Without punctuation I can't tell if you think feeling bad is sad or if the situation is sad!

srsly though, I do feel kind of bad. She was always going through a tough battle with family, friends, and the tabloid journalists.

Quoted post: Not shocking, but very depressing. She looked like hell last time I saw her in the tabloids. I feel horrible for her, and I'm really sorry that she died. She was an inspiration to many.

I'm assuming her death is drug-related.

Only a woman would think this. GOTTA LOVE 'EM

Posted by Xenos

If you open her coffin a few months later, you'll see nothing but a skeleton and some plastic interlaced with it.

Posted by Obscurum Contagiion

just think.... if she never did trim-spa, she would have never fit in that coffin.

Posted by Linko_16

Don't care. No reason to be glad about it, no reason to be upset. In the end, she was just another person, and worse things have happened to people.

Don't let the media trick you into thinking this is important.

Quoted post: Superhero Captain America shot dead - maybe

By Belinda Goldsmith

NEW YORK (Reuters) - He fought the Nazis. He is revered by other crime-fighters worldwide. But the beloved, shield-carrying superhero, Captain America, has finally met his end -- or has he?
Advert for The Scotsman Digital Archive

The winged-hooded Marvel Entertainment hero created in 1941 is shot dead in New York by a sniper in the latest Captain America issue that hit newsstands on Wednesday, in a sensational comic-book plot twist that had been kept a closely guarded secret.

Blood seeps from his red-white-and-blue costume as life ebbs from Steve Rogers, the scrawny student who was transformed into the physically perfect superhero when he volunteered to be injected with "Super Soldier" serum during World War II.

But executives at Marvel acknowledged death is not always final in the superhero universe -- and they hope the same is true for flagging comics sales of Captain America, who has lost ground to more contemporary superheroes like Spider-Man.

"This is the end of Steve Rogers, the meat and potatoes guy from 1941," Dan Buckley, president and publisher of publishing, Marvel Entertainment, told Reuters.

"But Captain America is a costume, and there are other people who could take it over. He is iconic, and we're continuing the comic books," he added. But he declined to speculate who could step into the hero's 66-year-old boots.

He said the continuing comic series would initially be focussed on the reaction of other characters to Captain America's death.

This was similar to the death of Superman in 1993, when the leading superhero of Marvel rival D.C. Comics was killed off after about 55 years -- only to be brought back months later.

Captain America has appeared in about 210 million comics in 75 countries, but currently his title sells up to 80,000 copies a month in the United States, down from about 150,000 in their heyday.

Unlike other comic heroes such as Spider-Man, Superman, Batman and the Fantastic Four, the Captain has yet to win Hollywood fame, though Buckley said there are plans for a Captain America movie.

"He is still popular, but he has not been getting the same attention as Spider-Man and others," said Buckley. "We hope this will make him more popular in the short-term at least."

Captain America's assassination secret comes in the aftermath of a seven-issue mini-series, Marvel's civil war, which divided superheroes as the government ordered them to reveal their true identities and register with authorities.

This caused a major rift and resulted in two super-powered factions, one led by Captain America, who went underground and formed a resistance movement, the other by Iron Man.

In the end, Captain America surrendered to Iron Man's pro-registration forces -- but is shot dead on the steps of New York's Federal Courthouse on his way to face charges.

Gerry Gladston, co-owner of Midtown Comics in Manhattan, said Captain America's assassination -- and the fact it had remained such a secret, even to some Marvel staff -- was "pretty Earth-shattering" and had sent sales soaring already.

"Captain America is still one of the most relevant comic book characters and the one with the most iconic status in the Marvel Universe who is revered by the others," said Gladston.

"I hope they bring him back. I miss him already."

****... that's horribly sad.

Captain America's been one of the most classic heroes I've ever known. Despite how cool or more powerful other super heroes in both Marvel and DC universes have been, I still hold Capt. America in high regard. He's simply a classic that can never be replaced.

I think killing off the Cap. is both a good and bad thing. It's good in the sense that it tugs at the heart as fans everywhere will remorse his death, but bad for the same reason. Because I so thoroughly believe that the new story-line that has emerged in Marvel is just so amazingly poignant and relevant I would have to agree with the decision to kill him. Great story lines often have to sacrifice something important to become truly great.

So yeah, sad? **** straight. Necessary? Absolutely.

Btw, for the record I totally knew this'd happen.

Posted by Oforia

I don't know how, but I suspect they will bring him back. It just seems too strange for marvel to kill off one of their main characters. There is obviously some strategy behind this, possibly pertaining to the new Captain America movie coming out soon.

Posted by WILLETH FOR MONTHS

Right now, during the Red Skull storyline? Yeah, he's not dead. Especially after all the crap they put him through during Civil War. Cue triumphant return later on to save the day, go Cap, etc.

maybe it's politically motivated?

Posted by Vampiro V. Empire

Who cares. Deaths don't even mean anything in comics. They've completely ruined any meaning it might've had.

Posted by Fate

Cap isn't dead. In previews and such he has an epic storyline ahead of him. As with Spidey. Oh man, those two are in for a hell of a ride in coming issues. If Steve Rogers is dead, it'd be cool to see who would fill his shoes. Can't wait for ****ing PENANCE to get his own comic.

I know it's not like the same thing as when Schultz died, but it's still really weird to think I've seen B.C. in the paper since I was a kid, and now it'll be gone forever. Ashes to ashes, rest in peace, et cetera.

Good; now maybe they'll stop producing B.C., or bring in someone else to make them funny.
