A sketch of the final design for a new character for my webcomic. based on a Hulk comic book cover.
The comic is nowhere near this detailed, but I like to have a decent reference point for intricate costumes. I've toyed with a lot of ideas for this particular character - now, finally, I've got one that fits.
Looks like a mix between Gambit, Cyclops, and the Hulk. And a bit of Juggernaut.
Hah, in all honesty I never based it on any comic book character at all in the original design, although I was influenced by RoboCop - and that was only because in the storyline he's obsessed with food and I quite liked the pun of 'RoboCod', before I remembered it was a James Pond game way back when.
But yeah, I was watching the old Spider-Man cartoon the other day - an episode that had the X-Men in it - when I realised that Gambit's coat is very similar to Pete's. Ad obviously the visor makes him lok very Cyclops-esque.
I'll upload a picture in the cartoon style and you can see what he'll look like in a proper context.

I've had some bad luck myself when coming up with characters that bear coincidental likeness to a current media icon. A few months ago, a friend of mine who likes to draw anthropomorphic characters switched notebooks with me and we each drew something in one another's. I decided to sketch up an anthropomorph of my own, which yielded the ten-minute invention of "Jaspar Coon," a racoon theif who could be thought of as a modern Robin Hood. My friend loved it and actually wanted to include him in one of his stories, but all the same, I felt very unoriginal when I came home to see a commercial on TV for Sly 3 on PS2.
He's cool, though. A good replacement for Fireball Comics, I hope. :(
