It's from the BBC and it says that the first man ever was arrested for using bittorrent. Is any P2P software safe? sorry in advance if this is in the wrong board.
Meh, I've been using bittorrent type programs for quite awhile, and I'm not worried at all about the consequences. The chances of me getting caught, I figure, are really slim. So whatever.
Anywho, sucks to be that guy.

Does Ares count?
I am relatively safely under the impression that there will always be someone who downloads more sh*t than me. Considering I almost exclusively download AMV's for anime music videos (which I doubt you could find for sale anywhere) and music (which I go out and buy on CD's immediately after if I like), I think I'm safe.
Why wouldn't Ares count? :/ Also, if they were to actually catch you and you were going out to buy the CD that I don't think it would hold up to well. It's the act itself that counts. Kinda like if you stole a video game for a little bit, decided you liked it then payed for it...just doesn't work IRL situations.
Heh, as for BitTorrent, As far as I knew it was immpossible for them to catch you. The guy was probably being stupid and open about his activies involving Bittorrent. So I would assume as long as you stay low key and don't offer them on your website it won't be an issue for low-key downloaders.
I'm a pretty casual downloader. Unlike some people I've seen that download a gig of music a day. :(
Everybody knows that saying, "I have P2P software on my computer," is the same as saying, "I download lots and lots of porn," so just admit it.
On another note, I doubt that RIAA would come after me, of all people, if not just to spare me the embarassment. I bet some guy in their upper offices go, "This kid is downloading Moonwalker, Howard the Duck, and Pretty in Pink? His life seems bad enough, we'll just leave him be."
By the way, Moonwalker was incredibly awesome. Michael Jackson is the best. And it had claymation!:D
Haha. My brother's got something like 4TB of storage 'round his house. He's got most every film released in the past few years, every episode of Friends, The Simpsons and Futurama, a few weeks of music and most new games. He doesn't share any of it, though, so apparently he's immune.
I personally have never used a p2p client, mIRC excluded, and if I download stuff I either do it legally, or I just search around until I find a direct download that works.
As for huge downloaders, I built a small server for a guy under the impression he was going to use it as a webhost and to share free webspace with the Miso, but he ended up using it to network 4 computers together to all run Bittorrent/p2p programs. He was downloading porbably ~2gigs a day of music and movies (we have 6meg cable out here). I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw what he had, half a TERABYTE of illegal movies, music, and games. Needless to say, his parents ended up finding out, and he got into some degree of trouble with them and the law.
The only time I download music is when I know that I want a specific song. No sense in spending $20 I dont have for one song. Besides, the current disttroution model is obsolete; by downloading, you help keep the system moving towards openness and innovation. :cool:
I bittorrent anime, which is the only reason I use it. :p
