Interesting bit of knowledge! Zelda ringtones on your cell-phone!

Posted by Luigi182

I discovered this a few days ago when I was looking at Zelda lovers at live journal. You can get Zelda ringtones for free!

It came very clear to me once I deciphered what this paragraph meant when a link sent me to zeldauniverse.net. The paragraph read as thus:

PS! If you have a new mobile phone which supports "polyphonic ringtones", you can use all our MIDI files as ringtones on your phone. Just open up your WAP-browser and type in the URL to the file you want. To find the URL to the file, click on the link that says "Right Click and select Save As", and the URL to the MIDI file will be in your browser's address line. It should end with ".mid".

After looking up a few terms at Wikipedia (yes, I did not know what WAP and polyphonic meant.), I learned that basically what you have to do is know the exact location of the .mid file on the web and have a phone that can not only play .mid files, but can also let you surf the web.

Here's how you do it:

1.Go to this page, click on the name of the game you want hear music from.

2. You'll see a bunch of note icons that tell you how many views each have gotten. Hover your pointer over these icons to see the title of the tune. Then you need to click the name of the tune you want.

3. You will then be sent to a page where you'll hear the .mid file being played and various notes about the tune below. In those notes is a link that says Right Click and Save As.

4. Right click that link, then click properties.

5. A dialog box will open. This will show the properties for that link.

6. Keep the box open and note the address. Go to your phone, and open up your WAP-browser. (Usually, this can be done by going to the option that lets you buy ringtones, in my case, I had to open up T-zones which is T-mobile's service, yours may be very different.)

7. Once this is open and your phone stops loading, you should have an option button of some sort. Once you press that, you should have an option that says "go to URL". Select that option and it will give you a text window waiting on you to enter text (similar to what happens when you want to send a text message). (you may have to play around with your phone to find what I'm talking about as again your phone may be different)

8. Now in this text window, enter the url and type in the address that is shown in the dialog box you opened earlier on your comp. This may take some time as you may have to fight your phone's auto-complete to get it all in. (you'll be typing a long string of letters starting with "http://" and ending in ".mid")

9. hit enter on your phone and wait while it downloads. If you did all this correctly, your phone will be playing the .mid file you looked up.

10. You should at this point, have the option to save the file to your phone. Do so, and then go about changing your ringtone in your phone's settings like you would if you had just bought a ringtone.

11. Enjoy your new Zelda themed ringtone.

Whew! I know this may sound like a lot of work, but really once you figure it out it's quite simple. And besides, you just can't beat free ringtones! :D

I currently have zelda's lullaby as my ringtone for calls and Mastersword as my ringtone for texts.

One final note before you go crazy, do note the file sizes of these tunes as they may eat up alot of your phone's memory.

Thoughts?

P.S. Can this be done with the tunes at vgmusic?

Information like this really makes me wish I had a cell phone. I'd put Metroid's Item Jingle as my ringtone for calls and Zelda's Item Jingle as my ringtone for text.
