This is a new stab at survival horror and this game is really classy. It begins with a student named Kenny Matthews staying behind in school one night, and while he is on the phone to his girlfriend, somebody steals his bag. He persues the robber into a creepy tunnel but after he rescues Dan, they both try to escape and these monsters attack them and then the hatch gets closed where Kenny came in.
So for the rest of the game, Josh, Shannon, Stan and Ashley search the school looking for Kenny, but they are locked inside so it becomes a fight for survival against these monsters. You can control 2 people at once or a friend can plug in and play, but it is not a divided screen.
To heal injuries you smash vending machines for energy drinks or you use first aid kits, but those are rare. You can tape a torch to a gun, but if you run out of ammo, you have to use a bat or a metal pole. Light is your friend too. The only annoying thing was getting trapped behind desks.
I thought this game was super cool. It reminded me of a film called The Faculty, with Elijah Wood and Robert Patrick where the teachers and students were actually aliens. This is one of the greatest games 2004 had on offer. To me it felt like a combination of Alone in the Dark and Silent Hill, which makes for a brilliant adventure.
I actually haven't heard of this game before, although it does sound interesting. It was made in 2004? I shall have to look for it.
