I dislike your latest ads, Jesse Smith!!

Posted by netman

The one with the registry cleaner or whatever, not only does it pop up over the page, but I'm sure tons of kids here have infected their computers thinking they arent safe. And then when you navigate away from the page it says the clean isnt finished, which is more annoying!

Change it.

Posted by Draxamus

Oh, is that what the popup is? Firefox always blocks it! BUT I AGREE POPUP ADS ARE VERY OBTRUSIVE AND EVIL

Posted by Hyper

...vgc has popups?

DIE JESSE DIE

Posted by Wicked Sushi

Actually, I got Yieldmanager from one of the popup ads, which 'caused additional popups, even if I wasn't on VGC.

Well not anymore; I fixed it by downloading an update from Microsoft.com. But still, some people might not know how to fix the problem and you know.

Posted by Jesse Smith

What pop-ups?? Get off the crack!!!! :D:D:D:D

Posted by GameMiestro

I dont see any pop ups.

Posted by Poison

Get off of that IE6 and join the warmth of the Firefox family!

We even have that drunk uncle that tells those life's stories.

Dang mind readers... Well, this isnt version 6, its far too old for that.

Posted by NegativeTrend

These new ads are rediculous. Get rid of it.

Posted by Ex-Linkman

I've seen them, when I use my ISP browsers (runs Javascript better that Firefox) instead of Firefox, I see that stupid Anti-virus one or whatever that makes it look like your computer needs scanning. Jesse, at LEAST remove that one.

Posted by Boner

Agreed. They are annoying. Firefox or no, they should not be here.

Posted by cool gamer dad

And here I was freaking out about my computer.

It's good to know nothing is wrong.

But the popups: Bad.

Posted by Fate

Firefox, firewalls, Spy Doctor, Spybot, and Ad-Aware can handle all of those.

Posted by Wicked Sushi

Quoting Fate: Firefox, firewalls, Spy Doctor, Spybot, and Ad-Aware can handle all of those.

So wait, we should just all download those programs, so we can post on a forum? Haha.

Posted by Fate

No, so you can use the internet properly.

Posted by Ex-Linkman

Spy bots and Adaware wont help. The popups dont store themselves on you computer, they're set to go off at random when you load a page. Download a popup blocker , or get Firefox. Firefox would probably be easier, considering it automatically blocks about 99% of popups.

Sad thing is, those popups are how Jesse makes a living. :(

Posted by Klarth

If firefox's pop-up blocker can't get rid of them, then they're pretty **** annoying. I did three scans with ad-aware before I realised that this was coming from VGC.

Posted by Jesse Smith

The only ads here are text links, a banner, and Yahoo. Find the sourse code that's generating them, and then I'll get rid of it. Good luck finding something that's not there. :bash: :bash:

I turned off the Firefox pop-up blocker, and I still don't get any pop-ups.

Some pop-ups are based on tracking cookies. Trust me, those programs help plenty. Firefox just eliminates the initial dirty work.

Posted by Skitzo Control

It's actually to the point where I'm considering leaving VGC because of some of the pop-ups. If you are going to force pop-ups on us (links at the top and bottom of the page affect me not!), at least make it some hardcore porn. There's nothing wrong with a little IDeepThroat.com.;)

Probably from your overture ads. I'm probably going to leave too if it isn't taken care of.

Posted by Vampiro V. Empire

I see nothing. Whether I use Firefox or not...

Posted by muffla

woops i thought that it was adaware that put it up well i gess it about time to blow away my drive again anyways

Posted by NegativeTrend

Quoting Vampiro: I see nothing. Whether I use Firefox or not...

It pops up as soon as you click the login box.

Posted by Vampiro V. Empire

Ah, that would explain why I haven't see it then.

Posted by Prince Redon

Quoting Fate: Firefox, firewalls, Spy Doctor, Spybot, and Ad-Aware can handle all of those.

Wow, overkill...That's like using 12 condoms.

I use firefox and nothing else, so I have no problems.

Why leave VGC for this? Just download Firefox and prevent this from ever happening again...Not to mention you can put your own skins on Firefox instead of a dull grey.

Also Vamp be careful, it's easier to crack an account if you don't log out. It makes it way harder if you log out every time you get done on VGC...Not to mention it will clear cookies.

It's not overkill when it comes to computers.

LoL, true. I'm kidding, that's about what I have going.

Norton is crap btw, don't use it. It's too easy to smash.

Posted by Luigi182

Hmmm...

Using IE 6.0.2900, I recieve no pop-up ads.

Using Mozilla 1.7.7, I recieve no pop-up ads.

I also have Pop-up Stopper Free edition running, if I were to receive a pop-up from this site it would automatically close and play a sound saying it stopped it. I know this because it even prevents those little pop-up windows that VGchat uses when I want to look at the expanded list of smilies. I get no such sound when I laod up VGchat in either browser.

Your pop-ups may have something to do with a cookie from another site. I suggest you go and clear out your cookies and clear out your history. If that fails, then you might have a deeper problem. At that point I suggest downloading Spybot S&D, instaling it and running it.

This should clear out your problem.

Quoting Vampiro: It's not overkill when it comes to computers.

Probably because they have AIDS, HIV, Syphillis, Herpes and leprosy simultaneously. Oh, and Killer Jordo.

Posted by Draxamus

Firefox blocks a popup from this site every once and a while, but not all the time. It is ONLY this site. The ad comes at random.

Posted by Jesse Smith

Look through a few pages at
http://www.webmaster-headquarters.com/

Get any pop-ups?

Posted by Jesse Smith

Thanks for proving my point. It's your stupid Windows computer. A vBuleltin log-in form doesn't generate an ad unless you got a crummy computer with SpyWare. Upgrade to an iMac!

Posted by Klarth

Nah, compatibility and ease of use are trendy right now.

Posted by NegativeTrend

Cya then.

Posted by Wicked Sushi

I guess I have spyware.

Ad-Adware, Spybot, Trend Micro, AV Antivirus is not picking it up though.

Posted by Vampiro V. Empire

That's because I don't believe it has anything to do with your computer. It's just a pop-up/advertisement. Hence "Computer Registry Software Advertisement"

Posted by Hyper

If Jesse would let me look through his templates or something I could let you all know if there was anything that caused a popup, but I doubt he would.

Posted by Skitzo Control

Indeed. I've ran many virus scans, and even reformatted my system. This still happens. Jesse, your site sucks.

I know, I just didn't wanted to say, "Jesse, damnit, thanks for the forums, but your ads suck ass".

edit: lol o well

Firewalls are good, too. The computer I'm using is regularly run with Spybot Seach and Destroy, Spyware Doctor, Ad-Aware SE Personal, and Norton AntiVirus. Norton's firewall takes care of a lot.

Posted by mis0

What the hell are yo guys talking about? I often run a computer without a firewall on broadband, and I've never had any problem with spyware, and never from here. What you have is spyware from somewhere else that targets you on your favourite sites, to try to promite products that might be related. That's how it works.

Also, it could've been a drive-by download, as in, the spy bot saw that your connection was unsecure, and just installed itself.

Posted by Fate

I bet if you ran Spyware Doctor, you'd find 500+ infections. Not all are obvious.

Posted by mis0

I've run programs similar to that, and haven't found anything. I just surf with caution. On my main computer I've had a few, but nothing major for a long time. Mainly I just turn off the modem and computre when I'm not using them, which is why I've probably never had problems.

That being said, I fail to see how any of this is Jesses fault.

Posted by Jesse Smith

I've been trying to get them to find it, but of course they can't even find the code. The link in my last post is a thread about the exact same thing they got 'Pop-up I couldn't get rid of', with people trying to get rid of it. As usual, it's only Windows users geting it.

Posted by Wicked Sushi

Quoting Fate: I bet if you ran Spyware Doctor, you'd find 500+ infections. Not all are obvious.

I got around 50. Most of them were cookies though.

Anyways, thanks for the program recommendation! :)

We all know by now that if it was some noob that made this thread and not a super mod, no one would really care and the noob would be flamed until the thread was closed by iris.

Cheers

Posted by Vampiro V. Empire

Doubt it.

Posted by Poison

Noob: Jesse, I don’t like the pop ups I'm getting from your site, can you do something about it?

Member: stfu noob, go die and find another site!

Member2: Yea, why don’t you stop being such a noob and get a better
internet explorer?

Member3: Zing!

Member4: OMFG LMAO!

Member Iris: ***Closes the thread***

Posted by Vampiro V. Empire

lol is that me?!

But seriously. I doubt that would happen simply because other members are having the same problem.

Posted by Xenos

Irony, when I opened this thread this morning, a got a message: "Firefox has just blocked a pop-up" or something like that. And I have run all those programs. I have a clean computer!

Posted by thelaststand

i only get it on this computer, but its not mine, so i dont keep up on security stuff on this computer, but the pop ups only come in on this site, and i am running firefox

Posted by Screenname

A site called red nova started popping up

Posted by mis0

Yeah, I've got that too. Red Nova, just what the fuck are you trying to push over here Jesse? You better tell us or I'll call you until you do. :D:D:D:D

Posted by Jesse Smith

Crud!!!! I got that....TWICE today!!!!! er.....

I'm guessing it's the NetStats. *Took the image off.* Empty cookies and see if you get any now. Empty cache if you still see the image at the very bottom. There stats page always shows pop-ups.

Posted by muffla

i dont see them ne more

Posted by Hyper

If it still persists, Jesse should get whoever owns the server to run spyware/adware/virus scans on it.

Posted by Jesse Smith

er servers don't go crawling the internet seeing pop-ups that download spyware/adware. Only thing to worry about there is hackers comeing along and hacking the server and for example ahem doing a DOS attack on a government site!!!!

Any one else notice there gone??!!!

Posted by Hyper

The server I was on had some virus apparently (before I moved to it) that was causing similar problems.

Posted by Cola308

I haven't seen any lately toots.

Posted by Jesse Smith

It was the stats image at the bottom of the page. Good thing it wasn't Yahoo. They make around 300% more than what Google makes, even with crummy ads!!!
