The NEX?

Has anyone seen this?

The NEX?

The way I understand it, Nintendo has let it's patent on the NES expire which allows for companies to legally make their own versions of the NES. This one here looks pretty sweet, I'm thinking of ordering one throughGamestop.

For you see, I'm really getting tired of my toaster NES and all the blowing on carts/special tricks/special voodoo magic needed to get my NES working. I've heard the top loader version of the NES solved that problem, but my luck on winning a bid on that has been, well I've had no luck with that. Should I get this? Or should I just keep on trying my luck on e-bay to find a top-loader?

Thoughts?

Wow. If i can actually buy this then I might. I never got into NES that much because of my original NES being fried.

It's certainly stylish. I really like it, actually. Someone needs to produce a knockoff that takes Famicom carts and disks without a converter, too...

That's what make this so cool. Check these questions in their FAQ:
Q. Will the Famicom Disk System work with the Generation NEX?
A: Yes! The Famicom Disk System works with the NEX.

Q: Which slot is for NES games?
A: The front slot accepts NES games. The opening on the top of the system receives FamiCom games. Both slots feature direct connections to the hardware.

So I can even play import titles on this thing. :D

Whoa! I didn't notice the toploading slot. Go for it.

Someone ought to produce a modernised FDS for it, though.

i noticed the online advert for it a few months back, and i've been wanting one ever since i saw that ad... it'll certainly save the springs and contacts on my toasters, and i believe they are multi region too, so i'll be able to play my collection of cherished english carts on it with no modifications :D

Woah, looks pretty neat. I actually like that one a LOT better than then all the other kock offs I see on ebay. I guess go for it.

Now, if only copyright expired this fast!!! Gah, probably got around 40 years for that!!!!

Not to sound like an ass, but you would be better off buying a gamepad for your computer and just use emulators. (Or wait for the Revolution)

but theres noting quite like playing nes games the way they were supposed to be played. in the comfort of an armchair on the tv screen

as for the revolution not all nes titles will be available for download, with the nex all games will be compatible, just a case of finding them :D

nice

Count me in. As for the Top Loader [Luigi], have you given any thought to finding one at your local thrift store? I found one fairly cheap [$10, with 4 games], and it works better than my "special toaster".

Generation NEX is perhaps the best of the fami-NES clones. It plays both NES and FamiCom carts, all regions, has longer lasting (more reliable) connector pins, and supports all existing peripherals and add-ons (Game Genie, Four Score, Satellite, etc.).
It also has abilities that the original NES doesn't have such as "stereo sound" (although I believe it's just "dual mono" with a seperation effect- still cool).

Harken to his words for he speaks volumes of truth! :D

I agree.

I would get this cool thing myself for the Famicom slot if I wasn't so big on collecting original hardware. I am stubborn on that issue, and am going to get an original Famicom.

How much is an unopened still in plastic covering NES with 2 controllers and sup mario bros unopend worth

I badly want one of these. Will they be released for the UK?

It looks quite nice. I have two NES systems, but I can barely get them to work since I rarely play my NES games. But Maybe I can get one of my NES's to work with my games again. Oh how I miss the old days. :(

Hey guys, you might want to think twice before buying one of these according to this article.

According to the article, you are better off with an original NES than the NEX. Also, apparently not all games are compatable.

That certainly is discouraging, as seeing how much pride the creaters took into developing this console.
I figured there would be a few compatibility issues (as MMC5 and "four screen" games always have problems on "cloned" hardware), but there is also evidence of poor sound and incorrect color display.
A $60 machine that can't play 'Castlevania III' is not worth $60. Unless the ability to play Famicom carts is really that desirable, most of us would be better off opting for an official Top Loader (at least untill the NEX is running smoothly).

I still like the ideas of this "project".

I do too, and hopefully either another company will pick up this idea, or Messiah will try to improve their hardware.

**** the luck... I saw the compatability issue thingy a while back but hadn't realized that it was that bad. I did have a bit of a hesitance about buying this one from the get go as it is not an official Nintendo product. Hmmm... I suppose once the holidays are over and I have a bit of spare cash I'll just try and buy another toaster from ebay(or an original top loader, if I'm lucky).

In the mean time, I'll keep my extra cash for X-mas gifts.

On a similar note, anybody know anything about the Family Boy? Or these Yobo boxes I keep seeing on ebay?

my oh my, after reading that article and the list i think it maybe in my best interest to just use my official nes and clone famicom until they iron out all the bugs....

funny as well the famicom clone i bought for
