I was wondering, is NC-17 considered an adults-only rating?
I'm curious because I've noticed alot of movies stray from it and alot of theaters don't show them, except for those that show porn, so I was just wondering.

Basically NC-17 is made for movies that are violent and gorey beyond context, yet they contain little-to-no sex, nudity, and what-not. NC-17 usually don't reach many theaters, like the ones where I live where they are considered "family-friendly", but there are probably other reasons.
Well I think its just a plain old R rated film. I think NC-17 tends to show more nudity then some R rated films.
All R-Rated and NC-17 films tend to become 18-rated and 15-rated over here. Both the Kill Bill flicks (R's in the US if I'm not mistaken) became 18-rated over here, meaning obviously that only adults could go see them.
Basically, NC-17 rating is giving to movies as a warning to them. So the movie will then get edited down to a R rating. Well, most movies do that so they can at least make some money off the movie. And then sell the unrated version on DVD
NC-17 is labeled as crap among movie-goers. Basically, too much R-rated stuff without the content that most real movies contain are what you find in NC-17 movies. Too much raunchy stuff to be considered a movie.
it depends. The Boondock saints was rated NC-17 before they edited the falling from the ceiling scene, as well as the bar scene where SPOILER
rocco shoots those guys who knew he was being set up
The original version I downloaded of Boondock Saints had slightly (very slightly, nothing serious) gorier (?) scenes, but nothing worth writing home about. They edited it so the dvd wouldn't be rated NC-17. NC-17 =/= crap.
Bj, didn't that movie come out a while ago? Hasn't the ratings board changed their ways since then?
By the way, Team America: Wold Police was supposed to get an NC-17 rating. I would have seen it either way.

that link shows it was nc-17 originally, but also states a bit about Boondock Saints II
1999 was when it was released on vhs, but I just checked, the dvd is 2001. I don't know anything about the rating changes, but neither do I remember any movies/games being NC-17 in 1999, so it was probably still a hefty rating to give a movie.
