Xbox 360 Price Announced.

Posted by Axis

Well the German Gaming Conference is now here and today Microsoft that they will release 2 version of the the 360: The Core System and the Fully Loaded System.

The Core System: Will come with the console, a wired controller, faceplate, standard audio-visual cable and an Xbox Live Silver membership. An Xbox Live Silver membership allows you to create a user id, download game content, access the Xbox 360 marketplace and gives Live users the ability to chat with friends. It does not, however, allow users to play games online. Prices for the Core System Are: [B]US = $299. Britain =

If I were getting a 360, the Fully Loaded system would be the way to go.

Posted by junior senior

That's so ridiculous. I bet Nintendo's will be so much lower, about $250.

Posted by Fate

I'll wait for the price to go down in a bit, that way I can get a good kinkless system at a better price. First generations are expensive and full of kinks.

Posted by Random

I'll probably buy one at Launch. Depending on how much I have saved. If I don't have enough for the Fully Loaded, I'll get the Core System til i'm able to have more.

Quoting Axis: Anyway, it sounds like Microsoft is ripping off some customers.

They're not, because what they're offering for $399.99 is a bunch of stuff besides the system and controller, which is usually the only stuff we get for $299.99 at launch. You'll eventually have to buy all the extra stuff separately which would amount to over $400. Plus, it's a good strategy for Microsoft, since most gamers will buy the complete package over the cheaper one. Microsoft is also trying to make the system affordable, even if it was much more expensive to make than the original Xbox. We should be paying a lot more for it.

However, I won't get one at launch simply because I don't have the money. I bought a new Xbox (to replace my broken one) recently as Microsoft is being pretty shady with the 360's backwards compatibility. With the bunch of games still coming out this generation in the coming fall and spring, I don't even see the need to get one so soon.

Posted by Prince Shondronai

I buy Nintendo's system first in every generation (the Dreamcast being the one exception, but not really since it was nearly dead by the time the GAMECUBE came out anyway), so hopefully by the time I'm ready to play Kameo, Perfect Dark, and Condemned, the price will have dropped a bit. I'll be going for the fully-loaded version, though. I don't do things halfway.

So basically for an extra $100 you get a Faceplate,Hard Drive, and Headset. And somehow that doesn't qualify as ripping people off. Don't expect any less from Sony, their system is going to be way too expensive also.

Around the time of E3 i heard rumors of the ps3 costing $400-$450 and the 360 costing $300. But after seeing that the 360 is $400 the ps3 will probably be $500. Its not fair for poor people like me.

Posted by Random

Do you not understand.. The 360 by itself is $300. Thats including a Hard Drive, Wireless Controller, Playback Kit, and whatever else. It is 300 Dollars, just 400 if you want all the extra hardware stuff.

Doesn't sound like them ripping anyone off really. Microsofts probably not going to make much money at all on it. Sounds like a fair deal. The Xbox was 300 dollars and you needed to buy things like DVD Playback Kits.

Be thankful it's not more expensive.

Ok I decided to Edit my Post.

Lets Compare shall we?

Microsoft Xbox at Launch $300
DVD Playback Kit $30
Xbox Live 1 Year Subscription $50
Wireless Controller $30-60
Hard Drive-Free

All together equals at least over $400 around Launch.

XBox360 Includes
DVD Playback Kit
Free Online Play
Wireless Controller
Hard Drive

For a Grand Total of $399. Why Do you people think Microsoft is ripping people off? It seems like a decent deal to me. Seems rather Smart. If you can't afford or don't want spiffy hardware, you can save yourself a hundred dollars. Otherwise it'd cost basically what it's Predacessor Cost with all of the above hardware.

You know... that bundled version would sound SO much better if it came with a gold version of that membership. It just would make it seem so much more complete.

But yeah, I'd most likely get the fully loaded.

Oh, and I very much doubt that the Revolution would be "$250." That's just plain stupid. :) My guess? $300 minimum. And you can hold me to that when it's released.

Posted by boomstick

I'll wait for the price to drop and the library to fill out and probably go for the core deal, seems the best way to go.

That's what people said about GC, and that ended up being $200. Hell, it was

The guy he was responding to mentioned the Revolution. He was only mentioning Nintendo's traditional price range.

The Fully Loaded System: Will come complete with the console, a wireless controller, a 20GB detachable hard drive, a faceplate, headset, component HD audio-visual cables, an Ethernet cable, Xbox Live Silver membership and, for a limited time, an Xbox 360 media remote. Prices for the Fully Loaded System Are: [B]US: $399. Britain =

Posted by Speedfreak

I'm actually pretty pleased with the launch price. Oh, I won't be getting it on launch day because there's a lack of games and far too much I still don't know about the system (like, uh, load times?). But if that was accounted for I'd have no problem paying that kind of money on launch day.

Thats the problem i dont want all the extra stuff except the wireless controller(which I'd buy seperatly if they didnt include it) and the hard drive.

:EDIT:

Its also not fair that some games will be able to perform better and have added extras if you have the version with the hard drive.

:More Edit!:

Also the wireless controller should come with the plug and play recharger, instead of making you pay an extra $20 for it.

Posted by Random

Then buy the Core Console, with the extra add ons. I believe your able to do so. Just purchase the HD and the Wireless controller and save yourself some cash.

Posted by Al Borland

It would be nice if they went ahead and threw in a gold membership to xbox live, that would make it so much less of a rip off in my mind. Cutting a wire off a controller, adding a hard drive and a headset hardly seems fair for $100.

Looks like EBGames is offering pre-orders now.

Also, looks like premium games cost 60 bucks and older games (in comparison) will probably be around 50. Good deal, and it also seems Halo 3'll cost 60 as well.

They have been for a long time. LOL my friend Pre ordered his 360 like 2 months ago.

Cool. You can buy the hard drive seperately and all the other crap for around two something when you can get it bundled and turn out cheaper.

BUT THAT'S JUST ME, YOU KNOW, SINCE THE HARD DRIVE IS GONNA SELL FOR $100 RETAIL.

Posted by Al Borland

I'm sorry I didn't know a hard drive was necessary to play the system. This whole hard-drive thing is overrated, you don't need to have one so for me 100 bucks is pretty steep for a hard drive. Look how important Ps2's hard drive turned out to be. It was used for like 3 games, one of them came with the damn thing.

You're also getting a remote, headset, and ethernet cable. Even without the hard-drive, it's a fairly good deal. The headset and remote will probably cost around fifty-sixty dollars together meaning the hard-drive would only be fifty or forty. That's pretty good.

Plus, they've been saying they will support the hard-drive a lot. Either through music, saving games (a memory card will probably cost around twenty dollars, if not more), features in games, et cetera.

But hey, it's not like you're being forced to buy the fully-loaded 360.

Is the full loaded one HD-TV only? If not then I'll buy that one.

If I had the money for the Omega bundle I would buy it. Why not? It comes with games and everything and most likly you get a discount because your buying some much of it.

Posted by Random

I get a 10% discount where I work. I have my 360 Pre Ordered already. I went in and pre ordered it today. After Tax it'll be roughly $386 all together for the Full deal. I'll also have to purchase a game or two. Most likely Perfect Dark, Oblivion, and Final Fantasy XI. I have $250 down on it. ^_^

Without the hard drive it would be the biggest rip off of all time. My ps2 headset cost 20 bucks, if the 360 headset is usb there is no way it could cost over 30 dollars. You could just buy a third party headset or use a ps2/xbox headset anyway. $40-60 for a remote? Again that is outrageous and you could go third party and get one for much cheaper. That being said, I do now think that the fully loaded is the better deal but I'm going to wait and see how much support the hard-drive recieves.

That was all in Canadian money. As I have no idea what those would cost if it were American.

Anyways, a third-party headset could be a fairly bad idea, as I've run into some pretty ****ty ones. You'll probably get what you pay for in this case.

Posted by Vampire Slayer

So how much will the full deal cost. The one thats $399. Do you have to buy extra **** for it? And if so what and how much does it cost?

Depends what you meant by "full deal". They range from $299 to $399 to $1200. As for "extra ****", if that includes games, more controlers, possible battery packs, et cetera, then yes.

Posted by Vampire Slayer

If I buy a wireless controller, lets say, 2 months after the system is released. Do I have to buy the controller and the charger seperate or do the controllers take batteries?

Posted by Vampiro V. Empire

Quoted post: If I buy a wireless controller, lets say, 2 months after the system is released. Do I have to buy the controller and the charger seperate or do the controllers take batteries?

Well, you can charge the batteries using a cable that goes from the controller to the console. Or you can remove the pack and place it in a docking station. Those are the only to ways to charge it that I know of. So, if you want a quick recharge, you may have to by a docking-station seperately.

Maybe someone else knows of another way.

Alright thanks.

Posted by Random

I have $250 down on my 360. I plan on buying the Fully-Loaded, with two games. Depending on which Games launch, I plan on Perfect Dark 0 if Launched, Final Fantasy XI, or if neither of those games are launched, I have backups like Kameo, and Oblivion.

I will buy one when Oblivion comes out (dates please?). Hopefully the price will have dropped by then. My dad might just buy one at launch and I'll play on his box until I buy my own.

Psh, all the next gen stuff looks pretty awful. Nintendo not withstanding. I think it's safe to say that commercialism has finally raped the video game industry. The objective being sales rather than actual honest to god customer sastisfaction. I admit that I'm participating in the Pepsi / Xbox360 "Be First To Play" contest, but free is the only way I'm ever going to get that beast, because odds are strong that it won't be worth the bubblewrap they package it in.

It makes me sick. It was less than a decade ago that SNES programers were still developing the best most enjoyable games, winning customers and fans with honest work and fun, vibrant and often highly creative game concepts, Always pushing the envelope and the boundaries of their console.

But now it has de-generated into a corporate & commercialist cash cow, they pour their un-scrupulous hearts and souls (not to mention their wallets) into over ellabourate and ficticious add campeigns, Alluring the general public into buying their over priced and ultimately un-impressive consoles, than bang out crap game after crap game just so they can say "we have a library of 200 games!", and it just simply makes me ill.

Posted by Vampiro V. Empire

Quoted post: Hopefully the price will have dropped by then.

Hah, fastest price drop eva.

Angerion: You're an idiot. Everything you said can pretty much go either way. There's plenty of games that do exactly what you say they aren't doing (There's tons of games that go out of their way to push the console's limits... both graphically and when it comes to gameplay). Not to mention the SNES was filled with tons of ****ty games. And I don't know if you remember or not... but the NES, Genesis, SNES and so on were all pretty pricey in their day. So were the games. Hell, the n64 had more expensive games than the Xbox now has.

Games today can still be enjoyable, fun experiences (if not more so then they once were), but it's people like you who are stuck in yesteryear that will never realize it.

Posted by Lord of Spam

I still say that offering a non-harddrive Xobx was a huge mistake, as developers have to assume that not everyone has it, which limits them from coding games that require it.

That aside, there is no way in hell that i would even consider throwing that amount fo cash down for something that appeals to me as little as the 360 does.

I'll be savingmy money for more important things, thank you.

$350? I believe the premium one is $400 now. The Nintendo Revolution looks pretty cool to me, I'm just glad they're actually trying to innovate (unlike the sad clones the PS3 and XBox 360 has become)

Oh god man, have you seen the DVD remote that Nintendo calls a videogame controller?

Posted by Oforia

neox....Who hasn't? my god.

Posted by Mmm.... GOOD!!!

Yea i believe MSoft did make a mistake in giving a "choice" as they called it... I went ahead and got the $400 version... I mean basically what I think MSoft hopes gonna happen is these kids are gonna get there $300 Xbox 360 (tard package,bc they let there mothers pick it out unlike me i got the good one) for Christmas take it back and use their Christmas and get a $400 version.
So if that works out, which i doubt, then MSoft is trying to get an extra $150 off the Premium Package.
