Before I begin, let me say that I will ruthlessly ignore any "omg avdwent chilfren is teh coolies!" posts, so dont bother.
It has come to my attention, via several sources at or near the same time, that Square is making a movie based off of Final Fantasy 7. Now, I'm sure there are many fans of the series out there who are rejoicing at this news.
I think I might be the only one who is upset.
For one, Square hasnt really show itself to be competent in the movie making business. Spirits within (which I walked into excited, and out of dissapointed), turned out to be not only a bad movie, but a box office flop. Furthermore, square seems to be falling on its face more often in the Final Fantasy line. The last several Final Fantasy titles were uninspiring sludgefests at best, and actively annoyign at worst. And to top it all off, Squares only foray into the land of sequals was so shameful that I shudder to think of it [Anyone who wants to try to defend X2, go ahead. I could use a good luagh].
So where does that leave me? From my point of view, a company that is know to mess up sequals and movies just told me that they are going to make a movie/sequal to my favourite rpg of all time.
Do I want to see what happens immediately after Sephiroth gets destroyed? Yes. Do I want to know what happened to the world after the lifestream rose up? You beat. Do I wanna see Tifa's boobs? Kinda. But the point is, if I go into this movie expecting great things and walk out dissapointed, I dont think I would know how to take it. I can honestly say, that were this movie to dissapoint me, I would not only not play another Final Fantasy, I wouldnt even play a square game.
It is for this reason that I say this movie will suck. Not as much becuase i have evidence to back it up, but more for my own protection. Square has shaken my faith so badly recently, I cant stand to be let do. So I will go to theaters September 14th (assumign i remembver the release date correctly), and I will walk in and sit down despondant. If I leave no worse than I left, I will see where I go from there. If I leave happy, there is no problem. But if I leave sadder than when I went in, I plan on never playing FF again.
I like the game, But Frankly I dont really give a **** about a movie based on it...
Honestly, I think Square, at least FF, has beeen rapidly... going downhill. FFX was -okay-, FFXI? No. FFXII looks like a porno magazine. Since when do you fight in a pink skirt? On the note of FFVII: AC, I don't really know what to say. I'm trying my hardest not to be bias because I utterly hate how overrated the root game was. But we all know what is sitting at the back of my mind. A money cow.
I agree, but I'm going to keep an open mind about it. Even if it does "suck", I'll be happy knowing that the story is complete, because I think it would be great to see the resolution of the whole Aeris = Lifestream thing, ect.
It's not coming out on theaters. It's going straight to DVD and UMD.

The trailers look good. The character animation looks amazing, the detail, the sound, and music is just great. The thing is, this movie has a lot of potentital because it's the first video game movie that actually has to do with the game. Past movie games have followed an approach in which it's similar to the game or just flat out uses that title, but fails to deliver. RE didn't interest me, Doom isn't doing much for me, and other video game movies haven't interested me in the past. At least this looks more than decent.
Oh, and on that note of square sucking on sequels... what about Chrono Cross? And Kingdom Hearts II is shaping up to be far better than the original in terms of gameplay and camera. How the story shapes out, who knows, but the first seems to set up for a good sequel. I mean, KH isn't the greatest game, but it was fun nonetheless, and hands on previews for KH II is nothing but good.
I loved Final Fantasy 7, and though the company has been going downhill as of late, my eagerness to find out what happens outweighs any doubts I have about the movie. I am rarely dissapointed in movies, however, as my expectations for most are not that high, so I doubt I'll be let down.
Resident Evil was never lame. It was classic for what it was. Though, in truth, I prefer RE4 the best.
I actually forgot about AC until now. I'll still buy it the day it comes out, I suppose, but as other people have all ready stated, I'm not exactly ecstatic about viewing it.

I seriously doubt that this movie will turn out bad.
If anything, I think it will be above average at worst. But of course, people greater than me have been wrong in their wishful thinking. Even if it's not as great, it's still gonna have fans after it..
I'm going to move this to movies. This may be -related- to an RPG game, but it's not an RPG game itself.
Whether the movie is bad or not, I don't care. I'm am truly impressed with the way Square has done cinematics. From a computer animation nut, I get jumpy at every screenshot.
Im looking forward to it also. But i have that same uneasy feeling of possible dissapointment. I dont want to be soured on how the story is going to turn out. In alot of ways i dont want them to touch FF7 but its hard for me to say no to it also. Its a mixed feeling but i will definitely have to see the movie.
I'm looking forward to the movie. Not with high hopes of a movie that will leave me breathless. I think that the movie will me medicore at best. As for the future of the Final Fantasy series. I'm kind of hoping that Square will just kill the it. Its been going down hill since FFX. If FFXII doesn't bring back the joys of the older games I strongly believe that the series will die out.
I've seen the movie, in Japanese, along with multiple friends of mine. To say it sucked, means you need to get as[I]s raped by the Masamune you fucking n00b. The pure graphical zenith this movie created was beyond that which any CGI movie could ever hope you achieve. By zenith, I mean, the way it stomped FF:TSW's face into the ground on a rusted spork. The way the character's moved, spoke, and interacted with not just each other, but their enviroment was almost an orgasmic experience, and when Sephiroth dawned himself upon those flames like in FFVII I believe my heart stopped momentarily. The only bad thing about this movie was it's music, because they could of done a master piece on it like FFVII, however, they made poor choices when it came to the quality of this.
To reiterate, if you claim this movie sucks without even giving it the time of day, then I believe I will ass rape you with Sephiroth's Masamune my self. You pitiful fools.
That's impossible to see it Japanese, as the movie comes out in the US first.

I think it will suck. Game movies tend to dissapoint, and this, I think, will be no exception. It's only an hour long, no?
Somehow, I think a sequal to the "Greatest RPG of all time" should be different.

The series may die to you but honestly i dont think the FF series will die no matter what happens with 12. Too many people will play it and love it just because of the fact it is called FF. I think FF is going to be around for a VERY long time.

Yeah, so I saw it. It was okay. The story kinda sucked, but the fights made up for it.. I guess. Overall, it could have been much better and much worse.

I've watched the Japanese one, and it's really good.
I have no idea what the storyline is, though. But for animation, sound, and such, it's excellent. The storyline seems awesome, from what I can piece together. A lot of twists and turns.
The storyline is anything you'd expect from an actio movie. Personally I think it was boring, the storyline, but there was so much more action scenes that belanaced it out that made the movie kick so much ***, I really couldn't care.
Some people will like the story, some will not, some will think meh', but when it comes right down to it, the movies fight scenes were like zomfg i cummed my pants.
And that I did.
I just saw this movie about 10 minutes ago, all in Japanese, had to download the subtitles myself (Thank *** for google). This is honestly the best movie I have ever seen to date, and I see a lot of movies. There were a lot of fight scenes, and the storyline was pretty strong. Anything you'd expect for a game movie. The ending was had a lot of suspense, and the effects were truly mind blowing. 10/10. Get this now!

I liked the movie. I wasn't expecting much of a plot to begin with, so I wasn't displeased. The fight scenes were gorgeous, and full of fangirl material.
It's definitely worth buying.
I think the movie will be awsome like the game before it but then again i may be wrong so to hell with what I think right seriously though I thought spirits with in was awsome i just dont think final fantasy when I see it any way this movie will most likley rle total @$$

I was disappointed by the lack of ichor, though. The only blood I saw was when Cloud was stabbed in the shoulder.

GUESSS WHAT SUCKAS I SAW THE WHOLE MOVIE ^_^ okay so if u wanna know how the movie was here it goes !!WARNING: SPOILER!! okay the GRAPHICS are friggin amazing, theres like this one part were a friend of Denzel jumps in a puddle and u see friggin crazy as details even in that, so in the grapics i give it a 9/10 only because in the scene with cloud and sephiroth theres a huge black environment and darkness starts to cover the sky, there if u look closely at sephiroths and clouds hair it looks very stuck yet moving left and right. in the STORY i would tell u this, IT SUCKED, the story is this 3 kids come, trying to revive Jenova "mother" and in the process Kadaj turns into sephiroth, also it turns out Rufus, who apperantly died in FFVII, survived and is now almost a good guy, also Reno + Rude make an appearance, and Reno makes up most of the comedy in the movie. so story gets a 1/10 and the reason i dont give it a ZERO is because a 0 would be no story, 1 means a very CRAPPY story. VO was ok, though only in japanese, since it had good acting and a good sense of vocals 4 each character, they even give Caith Seth, who does nothing in the battle sequence, a like old guy voice + Red XII a kinda cartoony older guy voice, so over all VO'S get a 9/10 because, hey for a talking dog + cat i would have expected a little better. so the movie over all is luke warm, its about 1 hour and 40 sum min. long, most of it being fighting. so overall this is a RENT, if your a fanboy buy it, i myself downloaded it so :P ^_^
