Year after year i seem to be the outcast on these boards when it comes to supporting G4 and it's award show. But i will keep supporting them nonetheless, because i honestly believe that G4 is going in the right direction with it's message of popularizing video games, and i'm optimistic that one day we'll all accept G4 as our gaming channel.
Now, i wouldn't be supporting G-Phoria if year after year G4 was putting out the ****tiest nominations, ala Spike TV. But they don't. If there's one thing they get right, it's the games they pick(except of course the dreaded voice performance categories). Thankfully they have added categories for different genres(Best RPG, Best Action Game), and taken out useless ones(Hottest Character, barf). So, unless you like complaining about who should have won whatever, then vote. G-Phoria is the best award show out there for gamers to voice their opinions on what they feel were the best games of the past year.

I hurt with G4 awards. It's like blasphemy. Popularizing would be great if they got people that make sense presenting awards.
"Jenna Jameson giving out a racing award? WTF?!"
Isnt Jenna Jameson the one from Survivor?

I'm hoping that this year, they really don't come up with lame, LAME awards like the one Aioros said. When I saw G-Phoria 2003 and... who was it... Pamela Anderson? She accepted some stupid award (Hottest Female Character?) in place of What I think was either a Tekken female character or an FFX-2 character, and DEEESTROYED the visual representation trying to dress up as them, talking in the most disgusting voice ever. At that point, I freaking couldn't watch it anymore. My brother taped the rest and I managed to find some good parts left over...
They should stick to what works and is appealing to the general audience. Enough of the crappy sex appeal stuff. I didn't see G-Phoria 2004, but I'm thinking it wasn't as bad as 03'.
I think it was Anna Nicole.
o gawd y
G4's stubborness to keep nomating B-list celebrities in the "Voice Performance" categories is the one thing they still won't change, only because B-listers have a better chance of appearing at the show. This really bothers me because there are tons of great voice performers (David Hayter as Snake anyone?) who are completely looked over because Snoop Dogg might be in town that week, so hell, why not? let's give him an award and he might come to our show.
If Carmen Electra wins Best Female Voice Actor, I'm going to shoot myself.
Goodbye cruel world.
This thing should be blammed to forever. This whole stupid thing with video game award shows all started because of the drivel that is the MTV Movie Award Show. Why else would G-Phoria 2004 have sleezy pornstar hosts and mediocre bands be main features of the show? And all the candidates and winners were so predictable. 75% of the games were american.
KOTOR winning Game of the Year? How original. That game only won 53 other GOTY awards. Not to say that KOTOR was a bad game. It has excellent writing and is full of depth. It's just that it's tiring to see the same game win GOTY 70 times. Prince of Persia annoyingly won a lot too. I would have rather seen an original game like Viewtiful Joe win, just to eliminate all monotony, and because it's an awesome game.
As for G-Phoria 2005, G4 should just quit now while serious gamers are still gouging their eyes out. For a split-second, I was hopeful that RE4 would win, but then I realized after reading many earlier GOTY articles in some gaming magazines, that Halo 2 and GTA: SA would win everything. Either those two or Half-Life 2, which wouldn't be as bad, since that's actually a good game. Heck, I'd be happy if Katamari Damacy won, Namco deserves the honor. Too bad that wasn't even a candidate.
If this year's G-Phoria doesn't feature a plethora of rapstars and the candidates are actually fun games, then I might change my mind. Of course, that would never happen.
G-Phoria has recently sucked complete ass, this year, I expect no different. Think about it, when rappers get their own video games, it spells nothing but "this game is gonna suck shit" to true gamers. There are so many posers out there now who are into this "gangsta" fad that it's become pathetic and irritating as hell. Apparently, these are the people that G4 now directs their TV shows to.
Summary: G4 sucks now, only semi-good show now is Attack of the Show. Complete shame that they got rid of Tech TV. That was good stuff.
I would say X-Play was a good show, but Adam and Morgan hate a completely decent franchise like DBZ (the games, mind you) based on their opinion of the crappy anime and not on the games themselves. Out of all the console DBZ games they've reviewed, Sagas was the only crap one.
And how about Cheat? If I wanted cheat codes, which I wouldn't, I could just go to GameFAQs instead of wasting my 26 minutes listening to another annoying host make hip-hop references and say stupid crap like "Do you ever feel guilty when you cheat? Yeah, me neither." Dude, if you cheat, I have no words to describe your languorousness and utter lack of thought.
But please, this topic regards your opinion of G-Phoria, not the other crappy G4 shows.
Actually, I think Shadow Hearts: Covenant was a nominee for Best RPG. I doubt it will win, however.

I'm going to watch it to make another comic about it. Plus, I'm a gaming geek, so I must.
Brilliant. You deserve a Legend Award.
If I remember correctly, the Legend Award was the only thing good about the whole show.
Come to think of it, it was.
Video game awards?
Die.
WTF IS UP WITH G-PHORIA
I'm watching the preshow and there are porn stars talking about gaming or whatnot. Ron Jeremy was at the red carpet because he was in a game like FOUR YEARS AGO. Joy Giovanni was talking about how she sucked at video games. I'm busting a vein here.
After getting back from work i only managed to catch the second half of the show. I saw Wilmer Valderrama making out with some chick after a hot-coffee joke, 50 Cent's ugly face and Halo 2 winning too many awards, tsk tsk G4. But there some good moments, Ralph Baer got his much deserved icon award, but he was so nervous his voice even squeaked a little bit. Don't sweat it Ralphie, we love ya. God of War received a bunch of awards too, which was unexpected.
This time game developers actually got to stand up and wave at the crowd after winning an award, which is something i predicted would happen. Maybe next year they'll actually get to walk center stage and give a speech  .
If the Game Developers Choice Awards is like the Oscars, then G-Phoria is like the MTV Movie Awards. Except unlike MTV, G4 actually nominates the right games except for the voice performance awards.
I just finished watching it. I didn't think it was possible, but I'm more disappointed than last time. One of the glaring things about the show was that Halo 2 predictably won most of its categories, including "Best Original Soundtrack." It makes me think that people just voted for Halo 2 because of the availability of selection, not because it was good.
I'm upset at Halo 2 winning "Best Original Soundtrack." The soundtrack was the old one with a few more guitars and a few new songs. *** of War had an amazing soundtrack. If not *** of War, then any other game with an original soundtrack.
A lot of the categories were done quick-announce style with about three seconds per category. The preshow had another star-filled fiasco with porn stars and sex jokes. Video games? I think not.
All the "guts" of video game stuff was saved for the aftershow, which doesn't make any sense since the content could've been well-placed during the show. But I guess popular America doesn't want to see the good stuff.
The day when G4 realizes that game developers are OUR celebrities will be a glorious one.
I just watched it, and wow what a crap infested show it was. I agree with Fate that there was not much games to vote for. When I voted at gphoria.com I noticed that in the best sports game area, that WWE Day of Reconing 2 was the only wrestling game on the list when WWE SD VS Raw diserved to be on that list aswell.
And one thing I was disusted with was that not one of the awards went to Metal Gear Solid 3. But oh well. I was dusgusted that there was not many other games to choose from in other catagories. G4 is an overall sucky channel in my opinion so I frankly dont care what the do. I rarely watch it. This gphoria pretty much sucked this time around. But I was happy to see that no one acted stupid like in the past year of gphoria and I trully thank g4 for that.
But otherwise it was just a boring show.
That Fez guy. Video game related? NO.
"Icons" is probably the only show worth watching by any true video gamer. G-Phoria can eat me.
X-Play is still good, and Adam is GREAT. He's probably the only host on the entire network that doesn't just spew tired interet catchphrases (Attack of the Show anyone?) and laugh at his own jokes.
But then again, when your competition is Tommy Tallarico...
When Tommy doesn't like a game at all, he lets you know big time. Especially if it was utter crap to him.
Adam does the same, but perhaps a bit more humorously (or stupidly).
Most of the reviews on X-Play are somewhat fair. Games getting a 5 pretty much stay normal unless it hits an area that just has to be hit... But when it gets a 1... expect mockery up the backside for it.
Anyway, G-Phoria doesn't seem to be getting better. I though 2003 was okay, but 2004 nearly killed it, and this year's was another stake in it's chest.
I don't care about Tommy's reviewing style, he worships any game that features large explosions, breasts, or flashy graphics (he gave Dead to Rights II an 8 or something, for crying out loud) while bashing anything that tries something "different" simply because he isn't used to it. He is the personification of the attitudes that have stunted the growth of the videogame as a modern art form.
