Download Accelerator [Removed...but Not]

Posted by Sean Fury

I got this download accelerator thing, because I thought it would increase my download speed, but it was crap, so I ditched it, but it still shows up when I try and download stuff, so I have to Right-click everything. How can I get rid of it completely?

Posted by William

Reformat your entire hard drive.

That's one way. *oscar*

I actually have no idea to be honest, since I've never used that crap before.

Posted by Sean Fury

Yeah, it was a big mistake =/

Posted by NegativeTrend

What is the name of the download accelerator?

Posted by Sean Fury

Download Accelerator =(

Posted by Hyper

did it say that it came with free weater statistics and a new car too?

Posted by Sean Fury

Actually no, I thought it might be spyware/adware crap, but...bah, print/screen instead:

Dumbass, take that image out of your post. Link to it. 1024x768 animations slow down my computer (and mine is fast as hell).

Posted by Sean Fury

But you're Hyper! It doesn't slow mine down at all, and I mean, at all.

Posted by Hyper

Quoting Sean Fury: But you're Hyper! It doesn't slow mine down at all, and I mean, at all.

Yeah, you have other **** for that.

Posted by Dark

NetTransport is a better download accelerator. I use it. The only annoying thing is that there's a popup message asking you to donate every time you minimize because it's "shareware".

Posted by brownoystercult

Patience pays.

Posted by loony636

Getright is also another good download accelerator. You can even download a plugin that let's it run in Mozilla Firefox.

Posted by Sean Fury

Everyone stop for a second. I don't care about download accelerators, I just want to know how to get the leftovers of it out.

Posted by Klarth

Sell your computer to someone competent enough to use it for a start.

Download hijack this and post a log for us. http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html

Forget Hijack This, Sean Fury, this guy explains how to uninstall Download Accelerator Plus (DAP) and provides the file required to do it. It should work perfectly but if it doesn't, then you might want to look at using Hijack This but that's more of a "last resort".

Posted by loony636

There, now say thank you to Trigger for helping you out of your own **** ups.

Posted by Sean Fury

Unwise didn't work, because apparantly DAP has no file folders or Install logs...I searched and searched, but here's the log file for Hijack This.

Get Microsoft Anti-Spy, and scan your computer.
Then get Spyware Blaster, and check for updates. It's very important to check for the updates for both Anti-Spyware and Spyware Blaster. I can see you got trojans also. Try and get Kasperysky Antivirus. It's a very good anti-virus progam.

Microsoft Antispyware is a good tool to kill all spyware that's on your computer. Don't use any other anti-spyware **** such as Ad-Aware, SpySweeper ect. Even though those are legit its self, it's just pointless, compared to Microsoft Anti-Spyware. I'm not absolutly sure about other people's oppinions on Anti-Spyware, but what I said pretty much clears all of your issues.

Spyware Blaster is a legit tool to help you banish most spyware/adware. Protects and immunes your computer. Any evil **** that you download will be protected. That doesn't mean to be careless and download all that you see either. Just try to pay attention to anything that you download. P2P have spyware also, so don't use those inless you know how to use it.
Microsoft Antispyware is a good tool to kill all spyware that's on your computer. Don't use any other anti-spyware **** such as Ad-Aware, SpySweeper ect.
If I see you give advice like that again, I swear that I will personally fly to your home and ensure you are banned from any electronic device that allows you to communicate to other people. While you're entitled to say that Microsoft Anti-Syware is better than other programs, it's not wise to ignore the actual benefits the other mentioned programs have.

You would be an absolute tool if you think two programs like microsoft Anti-Spyware and Spyware Blaster is enough to detect every form of malicious content on ones machine. Granted, you don't need every Anti-Spyware/Adware kit around but there is no denying that programs such as Ad-Aware or Spybot Search and Destory have certainly made a name for themselves because they not only work but detect what other programs failed to notice.
what I said pretty much clears all of your issues.
If you failed to notice, the actual problem is due to an incompetent uninstall program, not spyware.

Sean Fury, if Negative Trends solutions provide no help for you yet, I might suggest that you find a registry cleaning tool that will scan your registry and remove redunant, or no longer necessary registry entries. Some registry scanning programs may also correct any registry entries by updating the information to the actual true details. Programs, when uninstalled, often leave behind registry entries that not only make your registry larger and more difficult for your computer to navigate through but can also cause some system problems.

By scanning and cleaning/fixing your registry with such a program, you not only improve system performance and stability but also possibly remove any current problems that you face, such as a program that has claimed to be uninstalled still lingering on your system. Two programs I would recommend, though must be paid for is Registry Healer and JV16 Power Tools*. Both of these programs are in my standard "computer maintenance toolbox" and I find that I have hardly any problems, if any at all. Registry Healer has a limitation of deleting ten entries per scan (but you may scan as often as you like until all detected problems have been removed or fixed. JV16 Power Tools, I believe, have a thrity-day trial period.

*RegCleaner is part of the JV16 Power Tools and a while ago, Jouni made his power tools a pay-for package. I managed to find a website, however, that still hosts the free full versions (although old) and should work to aid your purpose.

Trigger you seem to know quite a bit. I'm prety sure I'll be looking forward to talking to you more. Sean Fury If you still have troubles drop me a PM. I tendto know how to fix most stuff when it comes to computers

Posted by Sean Fury

Alright, I've been trying this since I made this thread, but this stuff just isn't working. The problem is, ANY download link I click takes me to the DAP not working, blah blah blah, added to active qeue list, crap page. So I can't download any of that =/

Posted by speedemon35

Well your problem seems to be that you still have registry entries loose on your system blocking it. Maybe you can try to do it manualy? Go to run, type in regedit and do a find on acelerator. That should bring up the remainnig strings of data that weren't deleted. Clear them one by one. It is possible that any registry removal program missed it...

It's okay everyone, thanks for trying, but Protoman helped work me through it via AIM.
