1. Final Fantasy X-2
2. Final Fantasy X
3. Lord of the Rings: The Third Age
4. Final Fantasy VIII
5. Ark the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits
Ha! those are hardly as terrible as a few games i've played.
1. Drakkhen(Snes)-A horrid RPG from first person perspective.
2/3. Hydlide/Super Hydlide- No story whatsoever. All you did was build stats and such.
4. Heroes of the Lance- A terrible game about an excellent book series. The chances of beating this game are slim to none.
5. Arc the Lad: Monster Arena- A game that offered no value to the series, except to test your captured monsters. All it was in Japan was a filler until Arc 3 came out.
FFX, VIII and Arc The Lad: Twilight of Spirits were actually good games. Perhaps if you took more time to play them (I finished both FFVIII and Arc The Lad), you would see they're pretty good games. X-2 isn't my favorite game, but I believe the battle system is very good. Maybe you haven't played many RPGs, because I think those games are pretty good.
1. Arc The Lad was pretty fun to me. How could you not be amused with Bebedora's Mind Control?
2. It didn't really matter much that FFVIII was a "soap opera". It was one of the best RPGs I've played. I don't really rate RPGs on their story over gameplay.
FFVII
Legend of Dragoon
EarthBound
FFVIII
FFX
i hated all of them but arc the lad...you want to know why i didnt hate that?
darc lol
anyways i think that should be taken down and okage should be put up that game
was
horrible!!!
it depends if you got another ending then you would of puked all over the game...yes the other ending is that bad!
That's what made it fun. It set itself apart from other FF games by making a new money-making system, summoning, etc etc.
Different doesn't equal fun...
I feel Squaresoft could have easily gone about it a different way. A way that doesn't allow such easy abuse of the system, perhaps.
1. Final Fantasy X-2
Somewhat agreed, the battle system wasn't all that great in the begining, but once you get used to it, it kicks *ss. Some people don't like that.
2. Final Fantasy X
Bah, I f*cking loved it. But your opinion is yours.
3. Lord of the Rings: The Third Age
It may have been mind-numbingly easy, and easy to level up, but it was a fun enough game. And awesome for a once Lord of the Rings fanatic. :link:
1) Lord of the Rings Volume I: The Fellowship of the Ring (SNES) - Incredibly boring game, and the gameplay was pretty horrid. Not to mention you had to travel by foot everywhere to find things tucked away in corners, your other characters can die and you can't get them back - and they die pretty easily since they suck, and you have to navigate through dungeons without a map (I made my own though) - and those are pretty easy to get lost in quick...
2) Drakken (SNES) - Boring game. I couldn't even play 5 minutes of it without having to take it out of my Super Nintendo.
3) Final Fantasy VIII (PS1) - Bad everything. The characters weren't even interesting to me. And yeah, there was too much "soap opera" type stuff in it for me. Didn't really feel like a Final Fantasy game.
4) Final Fantasy X (PS2) - Hmm...just didn't like it. Sorry. Besides, Tidus was too much of a wuss for my likes, and Rikku was annoying as hell.
5) Final Fantasy X-2 (PS2) - Same as above.
--------
And before anyone gets on me about not having played too many RPGs because of my choices...trust me, I've played plenty. My opinions/preferences are exactly that - mine.
Most of the bad RPG's I don't play so I don't remember but the one that stuck out like a sore thumb was vagrant story for PS1.
also final fantasy legends for GBA but I understand that because it was made so long ago.
I also didn't like xenosaga just becuase of the battle system its not the worst but its just not my cup of tea.
Yeah, but Xenosaga is no way is the WORST. WORST is a really strong statement.
It's called opinion. I understand where you are coming from... but some people don't like games that are basically movies (or whatever the reason may be).
I really was not all that fond of the Japanese Final Fantasy 1, who's number I don't know for it's US release. I've yet to really play an RPG that merrits and award of "hate", but the aforementioned was simply the least enthralling.
1. Final Fantasy VIII - Dark put it in a good way. It's a soap opera. It was sorry and I actually like Final Fantasy games.
2. Final Fantasy X-2 - What a ****ty story line. I thought it was going to be good.
3. Xenosaga II - Waste of time. The story wasn't good. It was a disapointment.
4. UNLIMITED Saga - What the hell. This is so sorry. No graphics. No talking. What kind of PS2 game. Ugh.
I only have 4. When I get an RPG game usually enjoy it.
I never played any bad RPGs, ever. It seems like I always play with the best; Paper Mario, RoboTrek, Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest etc.
Though I don't like Final Fantasy.
final fantasy x-2
final fantasy 9
star ocean(all) dno ow many the r
lord of the rings third age
dark cloud
I found FFX unenjoyable. The main character and frequency of cut scenes made it umbearable to play. Everything else had already tainted the experience.
ive played loads of rpgs but i prefer turn based fights on em unlike star ocean
So...it's one of the worst RPGs because it's more original than those hundreds upon hundreds of turn-based RPGs? :(
And ****, broke my 666 posts. :(
1.) Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure... Go Figure....
2.) Final Fantasy X-2
3.) Jade Cocoon... The customizing monster thing was cool, but the battles were so dang boring, and never ended in the last dungeon, after beating the game....
4.) Definitely Final Fantasy Legend... What were they thinking???
5.) Ultima... IV I think, it was for snes.... flipping bored me to death... My mom loved it....
1)FFx-2-Please shoot me.
2)Azure Dreams-Holy crap.
3)Dragon Warrior series-Can't stand them
4)Any Pokemon-.......
5)Zelda Series-Don't flame me it's my freaking opinion, let's not be losers, flame me isn't gonna change anything.
Heh, I just realized I actually own some of the forementioned crappy games, like Jade Cocoon and Azure Dreams, but have never had the motivation to play them. At all. I was wondering what I was going to do with them, I guess I'll trade them in.
1. Link: The Faces of Evil.
2. FFX-2.
3. Final Fantasy Mystic Quest.
4. Shadow Hearts.
5. Illusion of Gaia.
I hated every second of Final Fantasy X. Hated it so much I couldn't finish it. I found Tidus so awful and annoying as a character. He was the main reason I stopped playing. ANd it certainly didn't help that every 6 steps he would stop to talk outloud in a pointless cutscene. I hate that boy. And I hate you.
Final Fantasy VIII(PC, PS1)-Boring story and subpar battle system made this one very unenjoyable for me, plus I really couldn't say I cared for any of the characters.
Xenosaga Episode I(PS2)-The gameplay was okay, but you were completely overwhelmed by cutscenes and story and the story just wasn't all that great to begin with.
Legend of Dragoon(PS1)-For all the reasons Vampiro mentioned earlier.
.Dot//Hack Series(PS2)-It was a good concept by it just wasn't executed very well, plus the story wasn't all that interesting.
Sudeki(Xbox)-IMO, an awful game, terrible story, awful audio, decent visuals and repeative gameplay, very poor try at bringing Japanese style RPG's to the Xbox.
BTW, those weren't in any order.
Final Fantasy X
Final Fantasy X
Final Fantasy X
Final Fantasy X
and Final Fantasy X
Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion
It made me think that I was in for some long, epic, drawn out story that would span an entire world. What did I get? $60 worth of sidequests and a main story so shallow and quick that it took all of one day of playing to finish. HArdcore lame.
I think the most hated RPG on this thread is Final Fantasy X and X-2.
I liked X but X-2 was horrendious I tried to finish it but I said "Fuck this".
I know someone on this site that would kill us for saying that X-2 sucks, Hopefully she sees this thread.
Ok i understand there are alot of square haters out there..... But come on were talking worst games and there are MUCH worse games out there than FFVII, FFVIII, FFX...... Ok im with ya on FFX-2 but seriously even if you hate these games you have to admit they arent that bad..... Here are some bad games and no one could possibly convince me that the ones i listed are worse....
1. Ephemeral Phantasia- FREAKEN LAME!
2. Legend of Alon Dar- Even more lame....
3. Quest 64- Ouch N64s pitiful attempt at an RPG.
4. Beyond the Beyond- If you havnt played this go check it out at IGN.com. It was for the PS1. If you read that review and check it out and agree that it is better than FFX then you need to rethink your opinion on RPG's.
The only RPG I can think of that I really disliked was... Well, I forget its name. It didn't leave an impression on me at. The main character used mechanical attacks, and he was very protective over the girl, "Linear", he grew up. It was for the GCN.
Edit - Name was Evolution Worlds
1.) Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure... Go Figure....
QUOTE]
I actually found Rhapsody quite fun, and I liked the music. It was pretty Hilarious at times. And How often does the DAMSEL rescue the PRINCE? The battlefields could have been bigger though.
Hmm...The worst RPG.... Well, none comes to mind right at the top of my head. Ill get back to it later.
hmm. Paper Mario: Thousand year door wasn't that great, but I loved the first one. Thats all I can think of.
5. The Seventh Saga
4. Magic Knight Rayearth
3. Final Fantasy X-2
2. Final Fantasy X
1. Final Fantasy VII
The last three are no-brainers. FFVII was ****ing garbage.
Well Klarth....
Looks Like you'll be my sworn enemy on the forum. Final fantasy VII rules all.
I don't mind it. Some parts sucked, though.
Things I despise about the greatest shit-heap of a game Square has ever had the balls to throw at their rabid fanbase:
Bollocks setting. So, we have five wonderfully epic games in beautiful fantasy environments, and then Square gets the bright idea to start adding scifi elements. "Sounds cool!", they said, and thus we get Final Fantasy VI. It's still all kings-and-queens, but with a great steampunk atmosphere. Best FF game to date. However, realising how many people loved it, Tetsuya Nomura comes along and builds on his predescessor's bright ideas.
Oh hell, I'll just dramatise the rest.
"HOW ABOUT WE JUST SCRAP THE ENTIRE PSEUDO-MEDIEVAL SETTING FOREVER, GUYS? LOL LOL, EVERYONE WILL LUV IT"
"What else should we incorporate?"
"THREE-DEE GRAPHIX AND LOTS OF PRETTY VIDEOS OF PEOPLE FIGHTING. OH AND ALSO THERE MUST BE NO STONE CASTLES OR KINGS AND QUEENS. IT SHOULD BE LIKE STAR WARS."
"What about the characters?"
"I THINK WE SHOULD HAVE AN ANGSTY TEENAGER AND ANOTHER ANGSTY TEENAGER, AND ANOTHER ANGSTY TEENAGER, AND A BIG BLACK MAN WHO SWEARS A LOT! PEOPLE LISTEN TO RAPP MUSICKS THESE DAYS SO WE MUST IDENTIFY WITH OUR TARGET DEMOGRAPHIC. ALSO, WE SHOULD HAVE A GUY WITH LONG, FLOWING SILVER HAIR AND A BIG SWORD! IT WILL BE ORIGINAL AND EVERYBODY WILL LOVE HIM."
"Anything else?"
"YESS. REMEMBER HOW YOU HAD THOSE GREAT FIVE-PERSON BATTLES IN FINAL FANTASY 4? WELL, I'M GLAD YOU REDUCED THE NUMBER TO FOUR, BUT I THINK IT WOULD BE A LOT BETTER IF THE BATTLES ONLY INCLUDED THREE PARTY MEMBERS, SO THAT THE PEOPLE PLAYING DON'T GET CONFUSED OR INTIMIDATED, LOL."
"Sounds like a plan!"
"ALSO, THE PLOT SHOULD BE OF THE SAME CONSISTENCY AS PAINT THINNER. WE DON'T WANT PEOPLE PLAYING IT FOR THE PLOT! I HAVE AN IDEA. WHY DON'T WE DO A GAME... WHERE... THE WORLD'S ABOUT TO END! AND IT'S ALL BECAUSE OF AN EVIL SWORD-WIELDING MAGICIAN! ...AND THE MAGICIAN TURNS OUT TO BE AN ALIEN! NOBODY'S EVER DONE THIS BEFORE!"
"Nomura, you're a GENIUS!"
"LOL I KNOW. I THINK ALSO THAT WE SHOULD HAVE FIXED CAMERA ANGLES SO THAT WHEN PEOPLE ARE PLAYING THEY HAVE TO SPEND TIME AND REORIENTATE THEMSELVES SO THAT THEY ARE NOT DIZZY. WHAT'S MORE IS THAT WE SHOULD USE REALLY GHETTO POLYGONAL GRAPHICKS THAT FULFILL ABOUT AN EIGHTH OF THE PLAYSTATION'S POTENTIAL, LOL."
"But surely you could have much better visuals if you moved development to the Nintendo 64?"
"IDIOT!!! THE NINTENDO 64 IS CRAPPY, THE GAMES ARE LIKE 32MB EACH. THAT'S NOWHERE NEAR ENOUGH ROOM FOR THE 2902039820983 FMV SEQUENCES I WANT. NOMURA WANT FOUR DISCS! FOUR DISCS!!"
"So, how about that battle system?"
"MAKE IT SO THAT PEOPLE CAN ONLY USE SPECIFIC SPELLS AND ATTACKS IF THEY HAVE THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT AND STUFF, BECAUSE IT WILL MEAN THAT A LOT MORE THINKING IS REQUIRED! OR SOMETHING! LOL."
"So... Should we have the game start off with a bright, fast action sequence, or what?"
"OF COURSE NOT. IF THE GAME STARTS MIND-NUMBINGLY DULL AND CONTINUES TO BE SO FOR THE NEXT TWELVE HOURS OF PLAY, THE PLAYERS WILL HAVE SOMETHING TO LOOK FORWARD TO!"
"What about spinoffs?"
"WELL I THINK THAT IN NINE YEARS WE SHOULD HAVE A MOVIE, A FEW NEW FINAL FANTASY VII GAMES, MAYBE A REMAKE, SOME MOBILE PHONE THINGS, LOTS OF ACTION FIGURES AND A WHOLE NEW FINAL FANTASY SECTION DEVOTED TO IT, BECAUSE IT WILL BE THE BEST GAME EVER, BECAUSE SEPHIROROTH IS SOOOO BADASS. LOL. ALSO, ONCE EVERY TWELVE-YEAR-OLD ON THE WORLD REGISTERS AS "SEPHIRORORTH" AT THE OFFICIAL SQUARE-ENIX FORUMS, OUR MISSION IS COMPLETE."
And that is everything wrong with Final Fantasy VII.
Go play Xenogears, for shit's sake.
You're crazy. The Star Ocean games are actually pretty good. I know it's your opinion and all, but if you think that's the worst, you really need to play more RPGs.
And learn to spell.
Star Ocean: Till the Ends of Time was horrible. While I don't hate FFVII, per se, I think it's terribly overrated. I do like the pre-render mainly because I have very bad motion illness and the music was nice in some parts - but I dislike it when people say the story was amazing, 'cause it wasn't. It was fun for free roaming and the chocobo race than anything else.
I think Terranigma is pretty sucky so far.
Can someone please tell me you do something besides go to 7 towers?
It's really starting to get old, and I really want to like this game.
Lufia games for SNES
My list would be:
every FF from VII on :p
Beyond The Beyond
Secret Of the Stars
...and more?
i didnt like terranigma
Lunar: Dragon Song
Final Fantasy VIII
Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest
Final Fantasy X2
Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles
All RPGs that are not the work of art that is Natsumes' Lufia are sin. Yes, that means Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts.
Bring on the fanboys.
Lufia was really fun,but was glitched to hell and back. It had soem pretty awesome puzzles, if I remember correctly.
Lufia hasn't glitched up on me.
Final Fantasy VII- Overrated.
Drakkhen- Lame.
LotR Vol.1: TFotR: Boring/Needed better AI and a ****ing map.
Earthbound: Boring.
Final Fantasy II- Hate the method of increasing stats.
Well, not so glitch as bugs. i bleive in Lufia 2, you could use a certain item and if your character wa sin the top right hand corner slot, he'd bug up and go to max stats and such.
There were a few bugs, but nothing that detracted from the gameplay and story. Lufia ftw.
And Kingdom Hearts eats Columbian hooker pussy. That's how bad it is.
please get mad and freak out already! I'm bored!
Xenogears > Lufia.
Sorry, but that's how it works!
'Cept forthe part where Lufia > Xenogears. It's just a sub clause so it's obviously something you'd overlook.
Oh, and Anything > Kingdom Hearts.
FFX was ****! crap story (bored me to tears), cut scenes every 5 minutes so Tidus (worst main character ever) could ***** about how sorry he feels for himself and how he hates his dad (seriously get over it and get on with the F***ing game, no freedom to walk around a world map to look for secrets. The only thing i did like was controlling the aeons during fights
1. LOTR: TTA (wtf was that about?)
2. Magna Carta (worst gameplay EVER!)
3. Earthbound (not awful, but I have to put it here because I've accually seen it on people's BEST lists.)
I don't have any more off the top of my head...
1. Final Fantasy VII (PSX) - I've just gotten sick of hearing about nothing but that overrated trash. So I'm fed up of it. Plus the giant hands really annoy me.
2. Final Fantasy VIII (PSX) - The characters were boring, and I didn't like the whole junctioning GFs thing.
3. Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (PC) - I didn't like it at all. I accidently left it running for a while. And when I came back, there were huge flying things everywhere. I hadn't killed any monsters before, so I don't know whether it was always like this. But I couldn't kill any of these. Then I found a dead body and looted his corpse, and found some magical scrolls, I used one, and didn't notice anything happen, so I walked back to where I came from, I jumped over a rock and WHOOSH! I'm flying really high and fast, turns out the scroll makes me jump really high and far. Well, It seems that I jumped all the way around the world because I landed back where I started....and died. I still have no idea what I'm supposed to be doing in this game.
I'll think of two others later.
I dunno if I can think of five of them, because I dont play that many RPGs..but I dont really like Final Fantasy. I'd still play them though. I like 8 and 10 quite a bit. The turn based battle throws me off. Anyway, I am about to start playing Legend of the Dragoon for PS1. Anyone ever heard of or played it? Is it any good?
Pretty mediocre and overrated.
Dragoon? It has cool fighting and leveling systems, but the stoyline is blah.
I thought it was alright - though I could never finish it because my disk kept on freezing. The battle system keeps you sitting on the edge though - however, this might have been so for me because I very young and never really understood it when I first tried it out.
1)Final Fantasy 7
2)Final Fantasy 8
3)Final Fantasy 7
4)Final fantasy 10
5)FINAL FANTASY 7
so people out there dont like ff7. it is praised by everyone that i know that has played it, but everyone is entitled to there own opinion so good on you. I still maintain that FFX was SH**HOUSE and FF7 lays it to waste.
Dark Kirby talking about Morrowind for the PC reminded me how much I hated that game. For the longest time I didn't know you could "run," so I jumped everywhere. Hence, my agility(or whatever it's called) was about level 30 and everything else was below 5. I don't know if I can think up 5 RPGs I hate because I religiously avoid wasting time with games that I know aren't going to be awesome, or at least really enjoyable. oh hey i did it yay
1. Morrowind
2. FFX
3. FFX-2
4. FFVII
5. Xenosaga
With the last one.. I tried. I honestly did. If I could say one thing to that game... it'd be:
I WANTED TO LOVE YOU, I REALLY DID... but I needed moar action. :/
Maybe after I play(THE GREAT AND HOLY ALPHA AND OMEGA- oh hi klarth) Xenogears, I might be able to sit down and watch/click through that movie.
1. Kingdom Hearts
2. Kingdom Hearts 2
3. Final Fantasy VII
4. Final Fantasy VII
5. Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy X was completely decent. Xenosaga is okay after you endure the first ten hours of the game.
Final Fantasy VII is the most overrated game ever. Final Fantasy Advent Children was boring, and didn't have a story. I hate everything Final Fantasy VII.
With the last one.. I tried. I honestly did. If I could say one thing to that game... it'd be:

Gears and Saga aren't really comparable, especially considering Saga is a) produced by Namco, not Square and b) set at least 15,000 years before Gears. There's no real formula to tell which one people will like and which people will hate.
I still maintain that FFX was SH**HOUSE and FF7 lays it to waste.
I played 30 hours of VII and 10 hours of X. The first nine hours of X were very enjoyable, but all thirty I played of VII had my resting my chin on my hand on my elbow on my desk on my BOREDOM.

-------------------
True the real difference in the two is actually the intrest factor.
FFVII is borning and bascially only begins to gain momentum after the half way point.
FFX is the exact opposite, it begins as about enjoyable as it is ever going to be and then by the halfway point begins to lose momento, until you find yourself at the very end scratching your head and saying "I wonder what is going on out side?". It took me around two days to bring my self back in to the mode of actually finishing the game up.
-Both games over all where fine though. I still say they needed the activeness and enthrawing story of which you see in Xenosaga or Raditia Stories. Final Fantasy XIII seemed to be the only Final Fantasy so far, that spreads that sleepness (probably because it was so short).
--------as for my top 5 worst RPG titles, I can think of 1 this is worst than all 5 of any title you can think of.
Romancing Saga:(
The pinacle of bordom, horrible graphics, impossible variance in difficulty, uneven boss strengths, and lame game design...plus you have to actually develope the story other wise there isn't one!?
FFVII is borning and bascially only begins to gain momento after the half way point.
momentum
Legend of Dragoon and Morrowind werent that bad
i like VII. :(
Actually, I liked it long before leigons of twelve years olds decided sephiroth was the best thing ever. He's not. Zeromus kicks his *** left and right
X-2 was fun if you were'nt looking for "omg super serious". it was just fun.
Seriously, if everyone didn't have such a hard-on against the final fantasies because they aren't niche market j-rpg's by atlus you'd see games like Drakken and and the 2 Hydlides.
FF X kinda sucked though i hated the characters and the fact titus was a whiney *****.
and jesus christ the original half life what the hell ITS LIKE A TRAM RIDE SIMULATOR FOR THE FIRST HALF OF THE GAME. i mean its not an rpg its just horrible.
Boktai wasnt to great. Looked cool but I never did have to much fun with it.
I played the beginning of the ROM, but only the beginning because I had no way to shine light onto the cart to banquish the first vampire. I remember turning this laptop upside down trying to get it to register some kind of light...
Must have been pretty fun for me to do something that retarded.
Hahaha, oh christ, there should be some kind of award for that. :D
The four .hack games. Perhaps not bad if taken in small doses, but the fact that it was the same game four games in a row just made it horrible. Trying to make money, thats all.
Kingdom Hearts. Gawd.
I can think of so many flaws. I honestly don't know how in the world this game spawned such a huge fanbase. It's awful.
First off, the game lacks a lot of direction. It kind of just throws you into the scene, and expects you to know exactly where to go. It lacks a map, making going anywhere a royal pain, and you miss half the entrances anyway.
Heartless attack you WAY too much, respawning when entering pretty much any room. Waves and waves just appear out of the ground. Although an easy match, it is completely tedious to fight them all over and over, and you pretty much HAVE to when you're in a room trying to figure out what to do since you're fscking lost again.
And the boss fights? What? It's like the programmers just threw in random bosses for the sake of having a boss fight. It's ridiculous. Why must I fight the cave of wonders shortly after fighting the lame walking heartless jar caterpillar?
The combat sucks. The lock on system is faulty, and the combat is completely dull and repetitive.
The game lacks direction, the combat sucks, the bosses suck, the gummi minigame is awful, and the game just does NOT live up.
Kingdom Hearts = fail.
Eh. I don't care if a bunch of illiterate fanboys hate me.
I'm not saying I don't like the game, it just doesn't nearly live up to all the hype and attention it gets, I think.
I'm actually working to finish it ASAP, so I can move onto Kingdom Hearts 2, which I'm sure I'll like, due to the much better Disney locations, better combat (I accidently stuck KH2 in before playing KH1 the first time >_>) and, what everyone says a sequel should be. Improved.
For now though, Kingdom Hearts has disappointed me most of the way through. I might've stopped playing it had it not be for the Disney locations which I know and love.
Whoa, I'm seeing some unexpected titles. FFVII and FFX, are you people ****ing crazy? Those games had the best story plots of any games I've ever played.
Actually, about 91% love it, 1% despise it and 8% would RATHER PLAY REAL MEN'S GAMES LIKE MADDEN 2007! **** YEAH, GO MADDEN! MADDEN! YEAAAAAH!
FFX, on the other hand, is a half-and-half.
Those games had the best story plots of any games I've ever played.
You haven't played too many RPGs, have you?
Sure I have. I've played RPGs since the 16-bit days (Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger) all the way up to modern RPG's like Oblivion and Dungeon Siege 2. My point is, when an RPG manages to draw you in with it's developing story and is able to throw you off track a few times, it's doing it's job.
Neither FFVII nor FFX drew me in. To me, the storylines just seemed horribly bland, cliché, uninspired and decidedly non-Final Fantasy. Nomura can go die in a hole as far as I'm concerned.
And then there are the ones which look ****ing amazing yet never get translated.
See: Blackmatrix Cross.
Wow. I'm actually thoroughly enjoying KH2.
...The first one still sucked though. :(
I'd like to try out FFVII, and see if I love or hate it. I still don't like Cloud though. :( To me, he's horrible cliche.
"lol I'm mysterious"
Huh, I'm gonna have to take Earthbound off of my list. I started playing it a few weeks ago out of boredom, and actually enjoyed it.
1, Sora would always jump off a ledge when fighting.
2 has way better worlds, sorry. Pinocchio, Wonderland, Tarzan, all fails. :( I have yet to find a world that I don't like in this one. (stfu I know Atlantica will suck)
2's combat isn't dumbed down. It's just as crappy as the first's, just a little better. :( Still crappy button mashing repetitive action though.
square cameos do suck but at least it had FFIII characters. :(
I'm pretty sure I also used :( too much in this post.
Nothing will convince me that 2 was better than 1. Nothing.
Seeing the way Setzer was potrayed made me severely depressed.
2's combat is dumbed down and completely moronic. More so than the first.
PRESS TRIANGLE 4 KOOL MOVES LOL
ZETA, I WANT TO REP YOU EVERY POST I SEE. I'm not even lying.
and stfu 1's combat just plain sucked beyond everything. 2's was the same level of suckiness, it just had rad kool triangle moves :cookie:
I don't know if there is anymore FFVI characters, but it had Setzer, and that was cool and all.
Setzer was pretty gay looking though. :(
Setzer looked like Sephiroth, and that ****ed me off HUGELY.
!=
Amano's artwork still manages to be incredibly awesome.
The way they ortrayed Setzer caused me to laugh at that game.
It was really bad. :(
They made him look like a generic anime "badass." Which was ****ing retarded. But oh lawd how the kids ate that **** up. After all, none of them played the original game he came from.
That's because most Kingdom Hearts fans were born in 1995. I've heard my fair share of "wtf is a super nintendo??? dont u mean a gamecube????" responses all over the place.
FOR ****'S SAKE, THERE WERE ELEVEN FINAL FANTASY GAMES BEFORE VII GAME OUT. ELEVEN. Why do all the fucks who toss all over KH and FFVII not realise this? Most probably think the VII actually STANDS for something.
That's a discrace.
I DEMAND FFIV CHARACTERS
How about some Locke, and Cecil? :(
Anno was pretty hesitant to let Nomura use Setzer, and he was actually ****ed off when he redesigned him.
I demand a fully 3D FFVI remake. NOW.
I am adding the dungeons in ToP as the worst level design ever spawned. If I ever meet the bastards who thought it would be fun to make the player spend an hour fighting identical enemies just to reach Dhaos castle, I am going to bludgeon them with a sledgehammer until they either apologize for their lack of sanity or die of skull fracture and external bleeding.
That game really made me mad.
Did you do the future Morlia Gallery? :D
No. I just died at the very end of the Cavern of Ice, when two Ekims blew me to pieces with Judgment as I was trying to run away.
I threw the game into a wall... :(
No. I just died at the very end of the Cavern of Ice, when two Ekims blew me to pieces with Judgment as I was trying to run away.
Keep Cless at the back of the party, equipped with a Mist Orb or whatever it is that increases escape speed. If you actually want to fight them, give Klarth and Arche Mystic Symbols and immediately have them cast spells on the Ekims to cancel their spells.
They're much too busy with the FFVII remake.
Not making that. That was just a tech demo to show off the PS3's power. Just like the 3D FF6 they showed around the N64's time.
CLKOUD SPTRIGE IS THE BEST CHARARCTER OF ALL TIME BEXCAUSE HE IS NBLONDE AND MYSTERIOSU AND HAS A BIG SWEORD. I think it's funny when Aioros tries to be funny and/or make witty comebacks. :(
CLOUD SUCKS. I was just playing KH2, saw a Cloud cutscene, and it only completely furthered the horrible cliche of both Cloud and Sephiroth.
"I'm off to fight my darkness. There's darkness in me. I have a dark side. I'm evil. Wait no I'm good but I'm still bad lol" "what?" "stfu I can't tell you because I'm mysterious. And I have blonde unnatural spiky hair"
k, Final Fantasy VII was fun. **** you guys. It's overrated for sure, but not the worst RPG ever.
Okay, it was better than The Seventh Saga and FF Mystic Quest :)
don't forget xenogears lol
lol delusions
Okay, it was better than The Seventh Saga and FF Mystic Quest :)
Okay, yeah. I'll go with that.
Keep Cless at the back of the party, equipped with a Mist Orb or whatever it is that increases escape speed. If you actually want to fight them, give Klarth and Arche Mystic Symbols and immediately have them cast spells on the Ekims to cancel their spells.
Or he could just spam tiger blade.
BUT THEN THE EKIM IN THE BACK WILL JUDGEMENT HIS ***!
Speaking of which. Guess what the latest game to be added to Gamespot's "Greatest Games" list is:
http://www.gamespot.com/features/6155700/index.html
Well, yeah, I guess it's pretty appropriate to compare FFVII to The Sims, Counter Strike, Starcraft and Generic Overhyped Game 8298984.
I make up for it with impeccable taste and extremely high standards :)
Funny, Ocarina of Time was added onto that list three years ago. :)
And, it's pretty sad to compare a game on what "Best of" lists it's getting on.
*Didn't read page. Just knows there's some sort of FF7 arguement and stupidly decides to join*
Sephiroth sucks. Kefka and Kuja accomplished more than he ever did. Hell, I think even Garland and The Emperor did more. Also, he has an Oedipus complex.
At least Garland's modus operandi didn't consist of "I LOVE MY MOMMY SO I'M GOING TO BLOW UP THE WORLD". And plus, Sephiroth isn't very good at KNOCKING YOU ALL DOWN.
Funny, Ocarina of Time was added onto that list three years ago. :)
Not all of the games on that list are undeserving - Chrono Trigger, Fallout and Zelda are some of the only exceptions I could spy. But yeah, having it on a list of some sort doesn't necessarily make it the ZOMG BEST GAME EVER. Gamespot can get ****ed.
Kefka was totally win. At least he had personality. =/
Not to mention pretty much every FF game has better lead characters.
Locke, Edgar and company could totally take down FFVII's characters.
Kefka was probably the liveliest, most colourful villain Squaresoft have ever created. He might not have the subtle, evil complexity of Xenogears' Krelian or the dreaminess of Chrono Cross' cast, but he was just heartless in a ****ing cool way. Sephiroth, on the other hand, is an alien who wanders around in flames for some reason and has a really big sword.
FFVII's entire cast is bland, generic and generally representative of what you have to design to get a legion of angsty teenagers to buy a supposedly "epic" game.
Biggest proof of all: Sephiroth tried destroying the world. KEFKA ACTUALLY DESTROYED IT.
"THEY BROUGHT THE LIGHT OF JUDGMENT TO OUR VILLAGE"
What makes a villain truly memorable can vary from person to person. You may not like Sephiroth's motivation for wanting to destroy the planet, but he did have a motivation. If you like Kefka (i do too, he's just not as badass as Sephiroth) then you're point of view is probably that a villain doesn't need a motive to be evil. Being evil for evil's sake might work for some people and it's a cool idea, but in my opinion that's what makes Kefka fall flat. An effective villain needs emotional effectiveness like anger, sadness, fear, revenge etc. . . all of which fit in with what Sephiroth went through in the game.
All the ingenious plans, people killed and planets destroyed don't mean a thing if they don't make you feel something. Just by killing Aeris, a character beloved by players who became attached to her from the moment the game started, Sephiroth sent a shockwave of actual feelings and emotions through rarely experienced in games. Kefka is a cool villain, but Sephiroth is the perfect one.
Millions of thirteen-year-olds obviously can't be wrong.
I seriously wouldn't have so much of a problem with the game if it wasn't the most overhyped piece of shit to ever cross my eyes. True, I didn't enjoy it much anyway, but man... It's just not fun, and all the characters seemed totally plastic to me. :/ Needs more Anno.
I didn't give a **** when Aeris died. Hell, I've felt worse when NPC characters that have a minor role have died. Mina in BoF2 for example.
Kefka wasn't ment to be badass. HE WAS A ****ING INSANE VILLAIN OK.
WHICH IS BADASS
You may not like Sephiroth's motivation for wanting to destroy the planet, but he did have a motivation.
KEFKA DIDN'T NEED A MOTIVATION. HE WAS INSANE. INSANE.
Fawful beats Sepheroth and Kefka.
In other news, I just discovered yesterday that I can manually use characters other than Cress. I thought it was some awesome reward for reaching the final area... :( :( :(
His name is CLESS.
CRESS ALBANE CLAUS DERRIS KARRAN
Sorry, I dont speak unlocalized GBA dialogue.
CLESS IRVING KLARTH DERRIS KHARLAN.
Also, Neodhaos > Plume Dhaos.
Also, you can only control Cless in the SFC original :(
BTW, FFVII's biggest fanbase consists mostly the 18 and over crowd because it consists of real RPG fanatics who tend to be older and no, they're not wrong this time.
FFVII's biggest fanbase tends to be around 18 and older because they were angsty teens or stupid children when the game was released.
I bet FF2's Emperor could out-suck Sephiroth.
Funny, it seems all the experienced hardcore RPGers hated Final Fantasy VII. All the ones I've read about/met, anyway. =/
Yeah, likewise. There's a large forum I visit where all the 13-21 crowd loves it, and anyone older seems to hate it with a passion.
I'd love to see how much you hate Dirge of Cerberus. :cookie:
It actually looks pretty fun.
...hahaha oh my ***. I'm not even going to dignify that with a proper response.
...
You....do know that pretty much every video game message board online thinks of GameFAQs as a discrace and a plague upon games? :(
My point is, GameFAQS isn't the....best thing to source a fanbase on.
Also, I think the fact that Zelda defeated Final Fantasy by a pretty large margin in the "best series ever" poll is a testament to the flaws in Aioros' logic. :)
I bet FF2's Emperor could out-suck Sephiroth.
Untrue. Lord Master of Hell>One-Winged Angel
The guy caused a lot of destruction.
Personally, I don't know. :cookie:
However, it's always been known or seen as, well, a bunch of retards. I've visited GameFAQS before, and the community there was just....ugh.
Maybe it's improved, though. If so, forgive me.
And I'm not talking about GameFAQs as a whole. I frequently go there if I get stuck on a game, or am having trouble. GameFAQs is a great site to have around.
maian, please explain to me how or why a video game site with no biased views whatsoever that contains faqs and forums to every single game ever made is a disgrace or plague upon games. Please.
maian, please explain to me how or why a video game site with no biased views whatsoever
explain to me how or why a video game site with no biased views whatsoever
a video game site with no biased views whatsoever
uhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhh
Except not.
Do I know why everyone has something against GameFAQs? No. But, everyone does. This is a lame argument, but I was just saying basing evidence on GameFAQs isn't a good idea. :(
I don't know why everybody hates them, but everyone does. Therefore, defending something with that site will only make you look stupider. =/
It's because it shares message boards with GameSpot, and a lot of the GameSpot users are very stupid/trolls/etc.
Wait, wait, wait, wait. Let me get this straight, GameFAQs... a forum filled with thousands of probably the stupidest kids on the planets, is being used a reliable example of FFVII's greatness? Of dear lord, that's the greatest thing I've ever heard.
Everyone who? Are you speaking on your behalf? Who gave you the idea that everyone hates Gamefaqs? Please ellaborate, for the love of Kratos.
http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/gentopic.php?board=197341
lololololooloolol
Who gave you the idea that everyone hates Gamefaqs?
the internet
So by that definition Klarth is also stupid for linking to that site to make a point? At least we agree on something.
Difference is that on GFF you get banned right off the bat if you show yourself to be a retard. It's pretty much the MENSA of gaming forums, and Vamp can testify to this.
Final Fantasy Tactics has a much higher average rating than FFVII, so saying FFVII is the most overrated game ever is BS.
Jealous people who can't get a life. They take their anger out on FF7.
The kind of person who claims to hate the popular music just because they think it's cool to be "hardcore" and listen to "underground" music. It doesn't make you cool, just as hating FFVII does not make you cool.
Those don't quite show the peak of idiocy, but they made me laugh. :(
KLARTH LET'S GO BE COOL AND LISTEN TO HARDCORE MUSIC WHILE HATING FFVII
This argument is going nowhere. I could quote tons of replies from Gamefaqs with smart/unbiased opinions but it wouldn't make a difference.
KLARTH LET'S GO BE COOL AND LISTEN TO HARDCORE MUSIC WHILE HATING FFVII
Hahahaha oh my ***. Sad thing is, most of the people I've encountered who LIKE ffvii tend to listen to nu-metal and faux-underground top 40 crap.
This argument is going nowhere. I could quote tons of replies from Gamefaqs with smart/unbiased opinions but it wouldn't make a difference.
IF THEY'RE SAYING FFVII IS THE BEST GAME EVER, THEY ARE BIASED, YOU STUPID FUCKSTAIN.
Most people like FF7 because they do ok.
jesus christ top wasnt the excellent land of milk and honey rpg you make it out to be.
You say tomaeto, i say tomato. . .
Argument. Going. Nowhere
No, you're saying it's a good example because there's some, be it a small percent of, intelligent people. I'm saying it's a bad example because there's a huge percent of idiot kids. Do you even know what that phrase means?
Of course the argument is going no where, though. Because it's an argument about something both sides know what they like and dislike. Neither is going to change their stance.
On a different note, I discovered that if you lose to Plume Dhaos in ToP, the game doesn't actually end, but it traps you in the battle. You can't do anything other than float around, though.
Odd, huh?
Doesn't happen in the SFC version. Also:
>
Ok, so imagine me walking through the lower levels of Morlia, and I meet this little monster thats about as threatening as a Goomba. So I'm thinking, "Aw, it's a cute little Land Urchin, trying to fight-"*BOOM*. My whole party (except Arche) is wiped out on contact.
More proof that this game should get the award for "Worst Use of Really Powerful Stats on Wimpy Looking Monsters".
***, I love Land Urchins. :) I did a parody of the Killer Rabbit with the ToP gang and a Land Urchin.
Also see: Black Rabite in Seiken Densetsu III. It's got more HP than any of the three final bosses combined, and all of their spells.
If it wasn't for the good story, art, and battle sequences, I don't think I could stand playing that game. WHY didn't Dhaos just ask for the [insert what he wanted here] in the FIRST place? I would have given it to him! Argh!
I don't have a list of 5 bad RPGs, because I tend to enjoy most of the ones I play. There is, however, one game that could unequivocally be considered the worst RPG of all time...
Quest 64
Final Fantasy tactic advance
I have to know your opinions
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Ive never gotten through the character customizer, but thats why i hate it. I couldn't pay enough attention to really give a crap about my characters nose size was.
They should make a Mario RPG CUSTOMIZE MARIO'S NOSE SIZE!!! YAY!!!
Secret of the Stars.
I have played a couple of bad RPGs (They are to me at least.).
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (Good graphics but they should have put in some MMORPG capabilities and maybe a plot or story.)
Kingdom Hearts -Series In General- (Confusing story and plot.)
Dawn of Mana (Not a mana sequel... not mana at all!)
There are some good RPGs I have played like:
World of Warcraft
Guild Wars
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
As much as I hate to admit it, FF 1 was a terrible game. It had virtually no storyline, used a convoluted battle system, and forced you to spend hours trying to find the precise NPCs needed to advance further in your quest. I don't know how people even played it without a walkthrough. In fact, the people who made the first walkthroughs probably beat the game at first using walkthroughs that were sent back in time by their future selves.
That's my theory, anyways.
Tales of Symphonia, probably. So much potential... I learned how to hate after playing that game.
http://vgchat.com/showthread.php?t=4915
Threads merged.
Anyone who says Oblivion is officially an idiot.
Okay... Usually I don't buy bad RPGs just because i'm really picky and i research the ones before I buy them...
But worst 5 would be like...
Bad
-5. Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced... It just totally destroyed the original for me, the battle rules and stuff were kind of strange and I don't think I got past the first 25% of the game cause I got too bored.
-4. DBZ - The Legacy of Goku... Weak...
-3. Spectrobes... Thousands of good ideas all not being used to their potential
-2. Vampire: The Masquerade... Why can't I break the rules? Why don't the human people just kill all the vampires... or the vampire kill all the people? Why is the game so clunky? Why oh why...
-1. Kingdom Hearts... I'm ready to be flamed... But this whole series left me with a sour taste in my mouth... I suppose it was a good idea but not only did i not get in to it, I just found that when anyone I thought was cool showed up they were gone way too fast which left me bored.
Worst
Top 5 would probably go...
Best
-1. Planescape: Torment
-2. Star Wars: KOTOR series (both as a whole)
-3. Age of Wonders
-4. Oblivion IV... It was too much fun T.T
-5. Diablo II
Good
Final Fantasy Mystic Quest - Easy
Final Fantasy VIII - Worst storyline that has ever happened, not to mention it was probably the most anticipated game for me growin' up.
Lord of the Rings: The Third Age - quite possibly the easiest final sequence ever. Aragon was better than Orlandu and thats crazy.
No particular order, thats just all I could think of at the moment.
Evolution Worlds: A very easy and basic RPG with hardly any plot. Good for beginners I suppose.
StarFox Adventures: Too kiddy IMO. The game made fox's badass image fly out the window...keep the pun.
Yu Gi Oh - The False Bound Kingdom: Terrible tutorial that teachs nothing of how the stupid battle engine works. A bad case of "plot placement" as in the Story/Plot sequences probably could have been cut out with little effect to the overall game play.
This game was something my parents bought me when I first got my GameCube...they don't play videogames.
So when'd this board get a mod
I think Legend of Dragoon needs to be mentioned again.
