I have a need for a device which im sure exists but proably looking in the wrong area for. i have a router and want to have an internet connection a couple of floors down without the need for a very long trawling cable. i have drawn a kind of simple map with microsoft paint (please dont hurt me :bangbang: ). does anyone know the name of what im after?

well if all you want is a wireless connection that goes down stairs, you could just get new antennas that increase the range, but i did a little bit of research but could find no device like what you were looking for, i would try this though; http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/archive/index.php/t-22980.html, it might help it might not, if you do track down a device that does this, post where you can find it
i cant really afford or have the time to completely set up a wireless network. i swear i have seen what im after before, i just dont know where, there are simmialr things for TV scart sockets so why cant there be one for network cables?
I am a bit confused as to exactly what you are after. But, I will explain my situation, and maybe it will help you out a bit.
I bought the following wireless router.

Note: even though it's a wireless router, you are still able to "hard wire" into it. In other words, I only needed [URL=http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=6227594&type=product&id=1069299971290]one of these[/URL] for my computer. My dad's computer is hard wired to the router in our living room. So, it's not like I had to buy a wireless network card for his computer as well. Other than this method, I can't think of any other way for you to do what you are trying to get done.
