A border on the second one would work wonders. I see a lot of open space as well, I think that by making the sig smaller (the second one) and only including the tech stuff and the render and name would add a lot to it.
Velvet's right, a border would do nicely, as for the image...looks ok by my standards.
The banner/sig is too tall.. Try blending the render better by brushing around it softly or getting the polygonal lasso tool and setting the feather to 20. Then you would go around the part you want and add a layer mask while it is still selected. Add a border. I like the background.
I've never been a fan of banners that have the actual video game character's name, but they are very professionally done. Good work.
As for the second one, it would look awesome if you moved the text up a little and added a border.
