I'm pretty sure someone else has had this happen to them.
Okay, I recently did a full system restore on my computer in indestructive mode, which means it kept all my documents from before. But, it made a different folder and shoved them all in there. The problem is my desktop before was password protected. Now, the computer wont let me access this folder with all my old documents.
I do remember my password from before, so all I need to know is how do I use it to get into this folder (My Documents)?
that sux, hmmm well you could try password hacking program which pretty much would just try and guess your password, im pretty sure you can also insert words in its dictionary, if you remember anything about your password, but idk the names of any of the programs, other than that i know your machine stores all its passwords, so all you have 2 do is find it and decode, the easiest way probably would be 2 google it find where the default location of that password is, and find out the default encryption and then try and find a decryption tool, ill try look in2 it and get back 2 u
Um...Wow...I'm not sure how to go about that right off...What does it say when you attempt to access the folder? Is it an error, and if so, what does the error say?
It could have just been damaged when the files transfered...*shrugs*
Wait, you can lock your desktop? Why don't I know how to do this?
double post again. :(
Anyway, I figured out how to get into the folder thanks to Microsoft's website. Should have gone there from the get go. Anyway, it was really quite simple. I'll post how to do it incase anyone else gets this problem (In Windows XP only):
[list=1]
[*]Restart the computer in safe mode (hold F8 as your computer starts up before WIndows loads up. On the menu that pops up, use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode.) Log onto your desktop like normal. If you you have never seen your computer in safe mode, it will look weird and colors will be in 16 bit.
[*]In safe mode, right-click on the folder you can't get into, select properties. Click the security tab, then click OK on the security message that pops up (if one appears).
[*]Click Advanced, then click the Owner tab.
[*]In the list of names, click your user name, or click Administrator if you're logged in as the Administrator. Then under that, select the box that says "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects check box".
[*]Click OK, and then click Yes on the message that pops up.
[*]Restart you computer in normal mode (same as putting it in safe mode, just this time from the menu, select "Start Windows Normally". You should be able to get into it now.
