Wanna Make Your Own Comics? Here's A Few Helpful Guides!

Posted by Concerto

So! You'd like to try your hand at making a sprite comic? Well, huzzah! Welcome to the club. ^^

I'd like to start off with my three base rules of sprite comics:
#1 - YOU have to have fun making them. If you enjoy making them, it shows in the end result. ^^
#2 - Ignore the flamers, but LISTEN to those of us who only wish to offer helpful advice. If someone tells you your comic sucks, but doesn't offer any advice on how to go about making it NOT suck, they're a flamer. Gimme a yell and I'll delete their ebil posts! XD But if someone says your comic needs help, and offers critisisms, listen to them. Sometimes your comics aren't as good as you think they are. (Personal biases suck. XD)
#3 - Making a good sprite comic takes practice, and practice takes time. Your first sprites and comics will most likely stink, but don't worry about - EVERYONE's first sprites and comics sucked. XD

So! To help you on your way, this thread is dedicated to spriting and comicking guides. ^(^^)^ Feel free to supply your own, be they links or your own creations! I'll add them to the handy-dandy list below. ^^

My sprite on this guide is outdated, but this thing should be helpful to any newbie spriters and/or MS Paint users.

I'm having a problem with my comic. When I try to use other people's sprites in my comic, they change colors. How can I fix this?

Make sure your backgrounds are 24-bit Bitmaps. That's what I always do. If they aren't just hit Save As, and select 24-Bit Bitmap. Or maybe PNG.

alright, I'll try it. thanks.

(Just adding my two cents. ^^;; )

PNGs are best if you can use them. They keep all the color without blurring, like JPEGs do, or changing colors, like GIFs do. Bitmaps tend to make the final comic way, WAY too big (filesize-wise, that is) to use online. T.T Also, if you have any Photoshop-y programs, use one of their formats. They tend to be net-friendly, at least moreso than BMPs. (I have next-to-no experience with Photoshop. ^^)

Also, I've found with something I have called the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer, if you use the Copy To function and change the filetype to JPEG, you can save a picture as a JPEG without the ugly blurring. It doesn't reduce the filesize as much as saving the picture as a JPEG normally does, but it can make a difference. I don't know if you have the Viewer, or if this works other ways, but I just thought I'd mention it.
