Apple looking to buy EA

And apparently right now it's still a rumor at this point, nonetheless here's the news.

File this one firmly under "unconfirmed," but it's nevertheless a tantalizing rumor.

According to Fast Money's Guy Adami, via TheStreet.com, Apple is "eyeing Electronic Arts as a takeover target." EA's currently the second-largest games publisher in the world and owner of the smash hit NFL-licensed series of football games. Could we be facing the possibility of a Mac-only iMadden?

Well, probably not. Apple has indeed been bolstering its games know-how, hiring a major Xbox strategist away from Microsoft in recent weeks. And EA is no stranger to Apple platforms: in the last year it's brought several of its major franchises to the iPhone, including Sim City, Tiger Woods, and Spore, with considerable success. But it's a far cry from there to a takeover, and that's putting it mildly.

Specialist video games analyst Michael Pachter seems to agree. Speaking to Gamasutra, he pointed out that if Apple was looking to make some entertainment acquisitions, it could buy Warner Music -- which controls 20% of the music industry -- for roughly half of EA's estimated price. However, the doubt didn't stop EA's stock from bucking the market trend to climb 1.63% at closing.

*Whistles* That would be a mighty, mighty purchase. Would we finally see an EA-branded console from this situation, I wonder? Would Apple allow EA to continue making DS and psp games, or force them to focus on Ipod apps? Interesting.

That picture does not look good. I think an Apple buy out would be a bad thing for EA. Right now EA likes to make many of their games for all the consoles out there. If Apple buys EA then maybe not as many EA games for Xbox 360.

I think Apple should try to get more in the music stuff since they are doing so well in that area. Maybe some deals with Activision (Guitar Hero)?:D:D

I'm sure that from apple we would definitely see a console other than the Iphone or maybe we wont. For all we know they could use EA to help them takeover the hand held market from Nintendo & also continue making games for PC while skipping the consoles altogether.:D:D

well even if its wrong it's probably best because there wouldn't be much synergy between the companies imo...they would have to pigeon hole current projects to fit on the Iphone or come out with their own console to rival the big 3, which is a win situation for gamers imo but doesn't make much sense for Apple.
