I loved Ape Escape, and I liked Specter's head. the mechanical thong looked kind of stupid but his hair made up for it imo.

I rented Ape Escape 2 back in the day, then I bought it used for cheap, but I let it sit around for a while before trying it, then it turned out the disc was broken beyond all playability and it had been too long before I could return it. OH, THE SHAME.

that's terribly unlucky. AE 2 was actually pretty good, never tried 3 though.

I really loved the mini game called Space monkey, does anyone remember it?

Yeah I played the space one a few times, but the swinging game in AE2 is still my favorite minigame of all time. After beating all the levels I'd mess around with the physics by vaulting myself across entire stages and trying to grab onto one of the last ropes.

As for the actual game, it was annoyingly geared toward tiny lil tots. The elephant tank looked stupid, but I'll admit that the bunny rabbit snowmobile rocked pretty hard, mostly because you could jump out of it at high speeds and send it flying. But it's still a great game, and those story book things you piece together from the coin machine were awesome. AE3 found a better balance in terms of kiddiness, and the bosses+battles were great, but I was really let down by the unfunniness of things like details when you use ape radar, etc. AE1 had me lolin' many times, but maybe it was just my age and the fact that I'd never played a monkey catching game before.

don't really remember the rope one. only rented the game though, so I probably didn't play it. also yeah the "Monkey Fables" (I think they were called) whcih you pieced together from the coin machines were great. one was a spoof oin Jac ak then the bean stalk and I really enjoyed it.

oh, and checked out some of the fanart pics in the link, soem are prety cool. Fiery Rapheal ftw.
