It's not the content of the posters that I care about, that is the same of ever. Rather, it's the lack of posting at all. I don't know about you guys, but if you compare the amount of activity the board gets now compared to even a year ago, VGC is dead.

...It doesn't help that our admin is a retard who would rather be posting in every thread as a puppet account instead of doing anything that involves administrative action.

There is a small core group of morons here, most of them are moderators who censor posts when there is a hot thread, so the first thing is to fire the morons JezzieDumb:jesse:Bell has put in the position to delete and alter threads, Linko being a prime example, OmniTroll behind the scenes PM'ing the stupid mod's to take action on his brain dead advice is also a major problem.

I've made mention of this a couple times lately. No one cares though. To hell with it.

There was a mod poll in the mod board to condense VGC's boards into a more convenient format. Every mod (who even posts anymore) unanimously voted for it. And then nothing happened. Whoo.

thats what killed vgc. if you look back 5 years ago, the mods were about 100 times better and dint have their heads up their asses (not all but most do). they realized they modded a subpar gamefaqs-esque board. they realized yeah there would be idiots but just ban the worst of them.

And yes, I would agree there. I was a massive, flaming retard when I first joined, but even I was given a chance. It's the obscene amounts of flaming and hazing that drives off new members, and even longtime, active ones. And then if you get past that, you realize there's about five hundred dead boards, instead of say, ten active ones like most message board. And now this place just kind of really blows. :cookie:

Um hey guys, I know I'm REALLY out of the loop now and all, but let me just say this. The reason why VGC has deteriorated lately isn't just because of the lack of topics and the huge social barriers between old members and new comers, granted that may play a big part, but also notice that many of us have grown up into adults now. Most of us are now in college like I currently am or have jobs of their own to attend to. The old members who were active in the past don't have the time any more to chit chat on the boards they once loved to come to. As such, the amount of posting will surely lessen as our most active members become more busy with their every day lives. I think I can remember when Admiral Anthrax popped in one time to say hello. He had certainly done some growing up and now he rarely even touches a video game.

The only way to fix this is to attract new members to join. And that means not being total *******s to them like I know I've seen in the past. We were all at that point once when we first joined. So let it go and let a few newb posts slide here and there.

lol, only game I really gave a hoot about was smash bros, but they never gave mod positions to people who would actually care enough to try to stir up discussion in their specialties. I know the smash section lost amorasaki, cyphus, and dark blade. While I tried to stick around, there was no point really, nothing worst than watching boards modded by people who don't want to marry that game

I'll only assume specific genra and game sections were similar and other areas around the forums were similar and the moderating was just crappy. That or everyone was just getting banned. Sometimes the lulz aren't worth it, especially when a majority of us started out like idiots and evolved from there.

And, when did I ever say that I wanted the boards to be dead? Clearly, what we have isn't working, because more and more members have been leaving, and the activity has slowly been going down. I've been complaining about it, yes. Why would I complain about it? So something can change that will make this place better so it won't die.

The reason new, intelligent people don't come is because people join forums to talk about the subject the forum was based around, and there are far, far better and more well known sites to talk about video games than this one. The only people who would ignore those obviously better forums and come here to talk about video games are either morons or forum-hopping social rejects.

Everyone has grown up, and people just don't care about this site the way we did when we were 16 (or whatever age you joined). Listen, Maian, I agree. I give you props for trying to do something about it, however futile I think your efforts may be with this bunch. For the most part, at the end of the day it's just going to be easier to cut your ties with this place and simply walk away. It's ultimately better to remember this place for what it was and all the good moments it had a couple of years ago than it is to try beat a dead horse.

Jesse is the way he is and people are what they are. This place isn't of lower quality for no reason, people make it that way and by the sounds of things, they're quite content with it being of lower quality. I don't think that I need to explain to you why they're content, though...

I've already been a part of several groups that tried to save forums which always proved unsuccesful. Living out a forum's life is just a part of growing up with the internetz. I've seen the cycle before: members lose interest/grow up, members leave, new people show up/or forum simply dies. Part of the problem with small forums is it's quite exclusive. Most people don't want to be the stranger of a tight community, so they flock to the bigger forums where everyone's a nobody. As for the members here, we usually treat noobs ambivalently. We want them to stay, but not to change VGC community. In the end, we really just want the old community back, specifically old members that probably will never come back. As people leave because of jobs and school, the community becomes less of what it was, slowly making more members lose interest until eventually everyone from the old community is gone and new people fill the void.

I'm content with the memories.

Site consistent of:

-Idiots
-People pretending to be idiots for whatever reason
-People who make fun of the idiots
-People who make fun of the idiots by pretending to be idiots
-People who try to incite intelligent conversation, but then get upset when no one joins in because they forgot that 95% of the site is populated by the aforementioned
-The apathetic and nihilistic

A forum's quality is only as high as that of the members who peruse it. Vgchat is now dominated by utterly dull and uninteresting posters. There might always be a handful of decent members lurking about somewhere, but they appear to feel too discouraged to contribute worthwhile content. It almost seems like they're setting themselves up for mockery by posting something serious or insightful. But it usually seems largely ignored amongst all the elementary school playground drivel which appeals only to the simplest of minds- that dismal demographic which vgchat has become a beacon to attract. Members who actually have something to say would rather contribute somewhere else, where their ideas and insights are recognized and appreciated and it's far less likely that someone will reply to a thoughtful post and derail the discussion with a comment about how they feel the urge to defecate.

What's most noticeable is the number of people who used to be quality contributors more or less succumbing to the "if you can't beat them, join them" mentality. Such is vgchat's overpowering influence of stupidity. The only reason I am posting here at this moment is because I have felt a sense of involvement with this community over the past 10 years. Much less over the latter five years, though. Now it feels almost alien to me. I imagine quite a few members from the old, old days rediscover the link to this site somehow and return from a several years-long absence, only to take one look at its current state and turn right back around.

By the way, vgchat has been around for too long to be a successful community without undergoing a significant overhaul. In forum years, this place is ancient and unkempt. No wonder it has lost its spark. It needs serious renovations to shake out the dust and cobwebs. But only one person can do that. Jesse Smith is only here to encourage and perpetuate childish behavior for his own entertainment. He'll always have enough members generating revenue simply by visiting the sites everyday, so a few dissatisfied regulars on one of his dozens of websites really don't matter to him. He obviously doesn't care about standards of quality, or about any of you individually unless you have an idea which he thinks will make him more money.

Doesn't really matter to me personally, though. I know plenty of other places where I can type out the word "godless" without having to dodge a censor. No surprise the general mentality in those places is more sophisticated.

Tell that to my Fallout thread. I'm considering not posting in there ever again. :(

Pretty much sums up my experience here, which is kinda why I'm getting ready to move on. Yeah, this site is only mildly interesting on rare occasions now, and only when I've browsed other forums that I care more about and still have some free time to devote to this place. I don't ever feel the need to contribute, since nobody will reply anyway, and I only talk to a few people who post on this site.

I stopped reading at page four and skipped to here. I stopped posting at VGC because there is nothing here that is new and exciting anymore. At least back in the say there were a lot of weird and interesting people, but a lot of the content that is on this site is trash. :( I still post at gaming forums, but not this one because it just doesn't have anything to offer. If there was some massive update, I would definitely come back.

-delete Sports forum. nobody posts there. also, might as well get rid of Instant Messages too. I have no idea why the wack that forum was ever brought into existence in the first place.
