DOGS!!!!!!!!

Posted by specopssv44

Not my usual thread, no rant or political stuff. just wondering who here has a dog, and what kind?

Because i lived in the barracks for years i wasnt allowed to have a pet, but once i got married we moved into family housing on the base and the first thing i did was talk my wife into going down to the pound with me so i could pick out a dog. My wife has a chihuahua, hes ok but not really my ideal companion dog, and i wanted a larger dog to protect the home as i am often away for weeks at a time and 7 to 8 months out of the year overseas.

I was looking for a sheapard type dog at first, but when we got there one caught my eye. It looked kinda like a giant husky and the lady at the pound told me it was called an akita. He was about a year and a half old and had been abused pretty badly at his last home and taken by the humane society.

We call him Raiden and have had him now for over six months and he is easily the best dog I have ever known. I highly reccomend this breed of dog as long as you can deal with the hair everywhere when it sheds and being smothered when you get home. Hes an excellent guard dog (he weighs about 108lbs) but very friendly to people it recognizes as welcome in the home.....

So who else has a dag!?

nice fad name

I have dogs but they live with my parents. One is a border collie/husky/shepherd and the other is some sort of shepherd/lab/maybe malamute. Favourite breeds are alaskan malamutes and border collies. Can't wait until I can have a dog again. In a few years if my boss breeds her sealyham terrier I'd really like a pup. Apartments suck.

I'm assuming he's got a short haired coat. Buy a striping knife to get out most of the undercoat or take him to a good groomer and you'll cut way back on the shedding. Feeding a high quality diet also helps, although sometimes it's just genetic.

yeah ive got a special brush thing for him, it helps a little but we just accept the fact that twice a year everything we own will be coated with fur... As for food we feed him solid gold brand, its expensive but we have to watch his diet cause the breed is known for developing stomach problems.

Well, we decided to give him a japanese name cause thats where the breed is from, so we pulled up a list names online and its the only one me and the wife could semi agree on... originally i wanted to call him tank cause hes so massive, but it didnt fly with my better half.

I just got a dog yesterday. I have no idea what it is but it's some kind of beagle terrier thing. It's as small as a dog can get without me hating it for no reason. It's pretty cool, but it's not being the crumb-buster I anticipated. It has different colored toe nails, some are black some are white. Found 1 dead flea on it while giving it a bath and it's house trained. Hasn't taken a crap yet, though......

P.S. His name is Goofy.

My first dog was named Pepito, Pepo for short. He was a white Labrador with light brown eyes, he was beautiful! I bought him from some people that were selling puppies at a corner of a gas station, and automatically loved him when I saw him.

My mom is a ***** though and made me give him away, because when he was a year and a half old, he would dig holes and mess stuff up. Freakin loved that dog. :(

Here's one of our two German Shepherds playing with his puppy. He's a great dog. :)

Edit: I found a picture that's much nicer and clearer.

I had many dogs, but they all died or had to be taken away. :(

I'm hoping I'll be able to keep the one I'll get when I move out. It sucks to lose pets quickly.

She's a VERY small English Mastiff. And just about the best Christmas present ever!

I have three dogs, a toy poodle named Kira after Kira Nerys from DS9, and two terrier mixes, Starbuck, or Star for short, named after Starbuck from BSG, and Twinkle, named that because she's Star's puppy.

Do you know what breed he is? He looks very similar to my last dog Barkley, though I can't find a good picture to prove it. We always thought he was a mix between an Akita (because his tail always curls up) and a Brittany Spaniel or Golden.

We had vets tell us he looked like a mix between a Golden and a little bit of Malamute and a few other things thrown in. His tail doesn't have that much curl to it, but it does kind of swoop upwards. He also has the double layer of fur like huskies, malamutes, etc. And he's a good sized dog, at a little over 50 lbs.

Posted by NES Queen

Yeah, Barkley was around 65 lbs last time he was at the vet. Not extremely tall, but solid.

Yours looks like a border collie/husky/golden retriever cross

Slade's looks like a pyrenees x...do you have a pic of him when he's alert? could have some collie or something in him.
