"Thanks for doing what this establishment already pays you to do in the first place" ****ING BULL****... no, no its more than that, its downright un-American, welfare for waiters huh!? NOT ON MY WATCH *****ES... and im tired of hearing people say "You HAVE to leave a tip, they work really hard and dont get paid much", no, stop BULL****, I dont HAVE to leave anything except for what the menu says my food cost... you know what, migrant workers have a really hard job, but I dont see people running out to tip them after they buy a few oranges, and the trash man, yeah thats gotta be a ****ty job, but I dont see anyone leaving cash on their trashcans in the morning.... bull****, why, WHY *** WHY!?!?!?!

You realize that hourly wages for tipped servers are a lot lower than hourly wages for other people, right?
You're right when you say that you don't have to leave a tip, but if you're with a large group of people and your server does an excellent job seeing to you and your group, leaving a tip really isn't unreasonable.
so youre telling me that the employer, pays lower wages to said waiters/waitress, because he expects they will recieve tips?.... so what youre telling me is, basically, in addition to paying for the food i ordered, i now also have to pay a share of said establishments staff salary? BULL**** I SAY!!

no, really im not cheap about it, as a matter of fact most of the time im guilted into tipping, that doesnt mean i cant be ****ed off about it... and, as a matter of fact, I make jack **** compared to waitress, and mccdonalds employees and just about every other job you can imagine, yet, id be willing to venture, my job is significantly more difficult, envolves greater personal risk, and stress.... WHERE IS MY ****ING TIP!?

If we all stop paying tips then the supposedly evil establishment will just charge more for food inorder to pay the waitresses, inevitablly giving us worse service from the lack of the waitress's incentive. The army doesn't do this because, well, staying a live should be enough of an incentive to NOT GET KILLED.

You do realize that tipping varies from place to place, right? In america yeah its assumed, but in some parts of the world its considered an insult, or is already factored into the bill.
I tend to tip based on service and task performed, and dont really mind that much. If people stopped tipping, chances are eateries would just jack up prices to cover the increased cost they would incur by paying higher salaries.
Not to mention that at a decent place, the incentive of a higher tip (should) get them to work harder.
in Japan tips are a no-go

I have waited tables at Bennigans Grill and Tavern, TGI Fridays, and now i currently work at Black Eyed Pea. If you have ever worked in resturaunts then you would understand. I make 2.13 per hour. 27% goes out of that to taxes. So i make roughly 1.80 per hour. Including tips i make around 12 to 14 per hour. The servers pretty much run the resurant as well as sales in the resturaunt. Look at it as the server is a car salesman. We look for commision, just like you look for a 200,000 dollar car for free. If you dont like to sit down and WAIT for a healthier and better made entree, then go the **** to mcdonalds you cheap ****ing douchebag. If you have waited tables, then you would understand.

This **** just riles me up when people dont feel the need to tip. When i worked at bennigans in north east austin, tx. that wasnt a good area to work in. it was ghetto as **** and i made a rough average of about 70 dollars on a double shift. which is complete ****. the majority of my clients were blacks, mexicans, and sleezy business men who were just showing off to their clients. so i didnt get a whole lot. i cant afford to go to college and im not just going to join the military because of that. i know that life isnt fair, but for **** sake, if you cant afford to tip , then dont go to resturaunts. i dont care who you are

Wow, what an idiot. I hate people who don't tip or tip really low. I usually tip 15% or higher. I mean, if the person does their job well. I was at Texas Road House with Amber's family the other day and we had a $100 bill. He mom tipped $7. I would have probably left like $20 for a tip. That waitress did a great job and was extremely kind. Amber's mom also doesn't give tips at all to people who deliver food. I can't stand that ****.
Really it's just something you're paying for their performance and service to you, despite whatever you ordered. I've never worked in a restaraunt but I always tip well. Even if someone only fills up my drinks or takes my plates away, I at least leave a few bucks. I think if you can't afford the tip you shouldn't eat in a restaraunt.

Waiters might have a secret talent in singing or dancing. A restaurant having karaoke for waiters could make a bundle of tips: a winning situation for business owner and workers.:cool:;)
Holy crap, dude, you're right. Maybe if you start a restaurant like that now, you'll be able to beat out all the hundreds and hundreds of other ones that are exactly like that.
