I'd go with "Bohemian Rhapsody" in terms of any style of remotely popular music. It definitely isn't overrated. It probably isn't my favorite song, however,
All Along the Watchtower.

I'd have to toss up between a few (hundred), but I think I'll go with Winter by Tori Amos for the moment. The music and emotional significance just builds and builds and builds, climaxing with an orchestral section before she strips it all away to just the piano and her whisper. Gut-wrenching.
One thing I am sure of, though, is that Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush is the best pop song ever written. The first song written and sung by the same woman to reach #1 on the British charts, it's amazingly unconventional - the chorus is split into bars of 4/4, 3/4, 2/4 and 4/4 - incredibly passionate, and her voice (at least on the rerecorded 1985 version) is perfect.

btw, Daniel Gildenlow endorses my opinion:
From his blog:
These songs, for different reasons, have made me cry at one or several points in my life…
* Old & Wise (The Alan Parsons Project)
The song to play at my funeral, should I fail to live forever.
* Winter (Tori Amos)
This might be the best song ever written.
* Hurt (performed by Johnny Cash)
I saw the video when I heard it the first time.
* Still Loving You (Scorpions)
I played this in my dad’s car as our sick cat was put down.
* Eye in the Sky (The Alan Parsons Project)
This was the first album I bought myself, age nine, and when I played it again in my car at age 34, with our one year old son beside me and the sun shining, I just couldn’t help smiling and weeping at the same time.
* Coat of Many Colors (Dolly Parton)
Don’t look at me like that! Well, listen to it yourself then!
