i have a spring mattress, though i would definitely go with a roll-up futon if i was given the choice

Futons are generally really ****ing uncomfortable, so get a decent one.
normal beds are pretty uncomfortable if you ask me. Though mine is especially comfortable. Cost a ridiculous amount of money though, so that might have something to do with it.
I miss having a futon. :( It was super compact and made my room really spacious.
mine doesn't fold anymore. Mechanism broke a month or so back, now I hold the whole thing up with stacks of paper. Not like I ever turned it into a couch anyways.
Yeah probably. Even semi-decent mattresses are like a thousand bucks. fuuuuuck
My futon is the couch in the living room. Somewhat comfy, but still ****s up my back. It was kinda expensive, good thing I got it for free!
I'd imagine a spring mattress would be worse for your back

That, and some futons are awesome, but I haven't seen great luck with the whole couch to bed thing. Some spring mattresses are annoying as hell, but mine is more than comfy. Not really so much about the comfort for me really, I had to sleep on the floor once for a good 4 months. Good cold floor/ruggy floor.
