What is your occupation? Is it what you have always wanted to do?
I already have a career as a pet stylist. I also do in-home pet sitting. And no, it is not what I will be doing for the rest of my life, at least full time. I'm starting university in january and plan on going into genetics and getting a PhD. Way too much school but I'm hoping it'll be worth it in the end. I still will do grooming, but it will be on the side or maybe once per week. We'll see.
I am currently unemployed. I used to work at Family Dollar. I quit that job, though. I am trained to be a certified clinical medical assistant and I hope to have a job in that soon.
I work nights stacking shelves in a supermarket.
It's not ideal, but it's really ****ing well-paid.
Recession, not a job in sight.
Gonna go to uni pretty soon though.
I validate people's skills they'll need as RNs (IV, cath insertion, central line care, etc) at the college I go to. It's a really relaxed job, it pays well, and it's crazy easy. I'll be graduating with my RN (Associate) in May, after which I'll finish out the six classes I need for my BS in Psych, and then I'll do my year and a half management courses to get my BS in nursing. After May I'll probably be working at the area's largest behavioral health center (hospital psych unit) unless I have a change of heart and decide to do ER nursing instead - which I find to be more fun, but not really more fulfilling or interesting.
As for what I really want to do, I have no clue. I'm doing nursing because it's fun and trauma/ the human body doesn't bother me. I went into the field so I could do music, writing and various other little art projects on my own time, since I'll only have to work a few days a week - and I can live wherever I want to do this. So, it's a good field. A little conservative as far as the workers go, but it's stable and pretty flexible around your own lifestyle.
I never grew up with a true dream job. I just make it up as I go along, always pulling off new tricks and fun little side missions to get over the top and beyond what I ever thought I could reach. There are some things I'd like to do, but definitely not for the rest of my life. I couldn't see myself doing one thing my whole life. What a drag.
i am unemployed and running out of money
please send me 5 dollars so i can eat
I'm a student and have no dreams or aspirations.
im a disabled vet from the army got no more dreams
I work in PC Repairs as a coordinator of the department. I look quite attractive in my blue lab coat and short skirts.
I lol'd at the thought of Fate dancing around in said lab coat and skirt yelling at the technical egghead noobs.

Hello, thank you for calli-I HAVE A ****ING BOMB STRAPPED TO MY *** OH ***.
Please hold while we connect you to our advisers.
I had a lady call in while her kitchen was on fire because fixing her dish was more important apparently.
True story.
though the recession is most certainly a reality and in many places people probably can't find employment no matter how hard they try, i can still see quite a few people simply using it as an excuse to continue being lazy jobless bums.
in my job i spend maybe 10% of the night under the stars logging aircraft and spacecraft that pass by and providing clearance for the laser guide star operations of two major observatories, leaving the rest of the time to **** off and do nothing or yank my dandy doodle.
recession, can't seem to get a second job
currently in a mail room sorting and rerouting packages for morgan stanley
Intend to school it up next year around the fall semester once I move, then probably move again after another 2 years.
I work at a KFC. It is my dream. I get free chicken on saturdays.
:bounce:
Why can't you find a job? Do you live in a smaller town or the middle of nowhere?
currently my job is bingo calling
but im also a freelance video camera man
Right now I'm just doing college full time. I've had a smattering of jobs in the past, mostly in retail hell. Stopped caring as much after high school and stopped working recently to take 18 credit hours a semester.
I have some prospects for interships this summer, but none of these are in fields which I'd really like to work. Hopefully, once I graduate, I'll have found something more suitable to my interests.
I'm a student studying Software Engineering with a bit of video game development studies. I test bad vidoegames over the summer.
Unemployed right now, because of the recession. HOPEFULLY not much longer though. >_>
What I do when I'm not unemployed though is build and assemble connectors/plugs on the ends of electrical cables. Things like A/V, Mod Plugs, USB, D-subs, etc. It's mostly for military, medical, and industrial use.
In the meantime though, I'm studying freelance web development.
I run my own online business. Which is a fancy way of saying that I take things that are my hobbies or that seem like fun challenges to do and make them into my work. I never really liked the idea of earning money for someone else, so thank goodness for the internet! :)
haha, it's harder than you might think bro.
I do home inspections with my dad. It's one of the few fields where the recession, considering the circumstances, has actually been a huge benefit. Though I'm sort of wondering how long the bank's housing inventory can sustain itself, something tells me it's going to be quite awhile before they even begin to dry up!
But yeah, it's pretty bizarre. We're surprised now when we inspect homes that are actually person to person deals, and not bank to person.
It's not the best job (for me, not my dad. $900/day for him easily). Nor am I very well-paid! But **** it's a job until I figure out what I wanna do.
*~THUG PRINCEZZ, WEED LORD~*
I thought this would be a good place to mention that I've never been so cold in my LIFE! I work at the Cleveland Zoo as a concession stand manager from like March through November... and I was called in today for a special event. "Noon Years Eve". Outside in 20 degree weather standing at a pretzel cart (basically) for 7 hours! (All the regular stands are closed right now) Bleh!
I work for Bill Perlman in talent management. My job specifically is supposed to be an image consultant, but I find myself making way too many phone calls and dinner meetings with our clients.
USMC Infantry Squad Leader.... id say its a love hate relationship, but no regrets.
i am a guidance counselor..when i was a kid i wanted to be a doctor..i dont know why i took psychology and end up a counselor..but whats important to me is to help other people..thats what i want since i was a kid..
3/4 of the way through with my first year of law school. I am hoping to either go into international law in either human rights, trade, or politics (government job) or become a prosecutor. My options are pretty open and the recession should be bouncing back when I graduate, though finding internships and clerkships will be difficult until then.
what happened with hooters
I decided it was time to work towards getting a real job
I've been a webmaster since 1996. Started making money with it in 1997. Yes, this is my dream job...get paid driving WackoHater insane!!! :D:D
Oh, I also work in a grocery store as income back-up for when ever da internet has a .com crash!
my main job at the moment is bingo caller, i work for the uk's premier bingo company
i also work for myself doing video camera work for various groups for use in dvd's and web based media projects
Cashier at a take-out connected to a restaurant. Been there for over a year now.
I'm a housewife. And yes, it is my dream job! But, I'm looking for work. I don't really have any skills, I had to drop out of college during my 2nd semester to take care of my dad, who had a stroke. Since then, life hasn't let me go back. I'm hoping to get a job at the local library, which is hiring, or a secretarial job.
right now im getting paid to sit on my but for 6 months and after that ill be putting in for an mos transfer got to get out of this gun-ho bs that i have been putting up with for 8 years. got to love the U.S ARMY. lol
Grocer at the local Shaws
I work at a hotel(as some of you way already know). Most of the time I work the graveyard shift, also known as the "night audit". On those nights I do about an hours work and spend the next 5-6 hours on the computer doing internet things or playing my DS/PSP.
It's a hard job, but someone's gotta do it.
I work at a retail chain in the Receiving Department, hauling **** all over the store with a forklift. Between dealing with customers and truck drivers, I perferr customers.
I just work sales floor at Target. It's a nice job, for being in high school. I'm definitely extremely satisfied with it, as far as part time jobs go. My first job was a pretzel store in the mall. Ugh.
I push carts/help people carry out heavy stuff at a Sam's Club.
Just found my social security statement from 2008 the other day. Nice thing about it is that it tells you your yearly earnings since the dawn of time.
1995: $1,815 (supermarket girl, mainly cashier and front end manager out in the Hamptons during the summer)
1996: $1,432 (same thing, though this summer I spent most of my time hanging out with the guys in the back and restocking the cereal aisle. Second job was in the book stacks at the library at college)
1997: $4,590 (moved on up to the Center for Business Research section of the library at college, wahoo. Also started working at a supermarket again for more money, was the bookkeeper though this time.)
1998: $7,758 (sha-bam, more of the above just longer hours :()
1999: $828 (I guess I quit the supermarket job and was only doing the library gig at college)
2000: $21,688 (my first real job after graduating college, so the salary is only for a half year - medical technologist at Winthrop U. Hospital)
2001: $44,763 (real salary fresh out of college - hooray for higher edumacation)
2002: $40,374 (I quit in September to go back to school, then started working at a different hospital part time)
2003: $27,635 (part time work up at a hospital until July, then career change over to my current employer)
2004: $35,858 (first full year with my current full time employer Pall Corporation, hooray for 20K pay cuts! - Sr. Lab Analyst)
2005: $44,586 (promotion to Lab Supervisor, then a transfer to a different department a few months later)
2006: $60,030 (promotion to Sr. QA Specialist, and I started working at Winthrop again part time for extra money)
2007: I have no idea, it's not reported on there and I can't find my old W2 forms. I was making 55-60K at Pall alone though as a Sr. Project Leader, so probably closer to 70K total between the 2 jobs.
2008: $68,773 (Got my 6th promotion at Pall this past year to Research Scientist, so that's bringing in 64K. But I cut back on my hours at the hospital because I work too much.)
Crazy to look back at it all. Makes me wonder how in the hell I survived on half the salary I'm getting now just a few years back.
That was interesting. I'm tempted to pull mine out and see how it is. Where do you get your social security statement from?
The government? I dunno, its a 4 page pamphlet that says "Your Social Security Statement" on the front with a seal from the social security administration. They send it out yearly to anyone who pays social security fees in their paychecks.
Its really depressing though when you read the parts that say "At age 62 your retirement payment would be about $1,330 a month. However, the law governing benefit amounts may change because, by 2041, the payroll taxes collected will be enough to pay only about 75 percent of scheduled benefits."
So they're flat out telling you - you're f*cked because even though you have to continue paying the full amount towards social security each paycheck, by the time you're old enough to retire and collect on those benefits there won't be enough money to give you the full amount you deserve. Hooray for the US Government! :cookie:
A month or two before your birthday it should show up in da mail.
