Xbox 360 to Premiere on MTV
Microsoft plans a massive media blitz, Frodo included.
by David Adams
April 11, 2005 - Microsoft will give the world its first real taste of the next-generation Xbox system on MTV next month, as both companies today announced a marketing alliance and celebrity-studded television special in support of the console.
On Thursday, May 12, MTV will air "MTV Presents: The Next Generation Xbox Revealed," hosted by Lord of the Rings star and confessed gaming fanatic Elijah Wood. Microsoft promises to reveal not only details on the next Xbox's connectivity, personalization, and high-definition output, but actual footage from next-generation games as well as the new controller.
Las Vegas band The Killers will also play. Uh, did we mention game footage?
The MTV premiere is exciting in itself, but it also supports the notion that the next Xbox will be a big part of Microsoft's E3 showing this year. We expect to see plenty related to the new console at next month's expo, and of course, we'll be passing the good stuff on to you as quickly as possible.
Look for the MTV special to air May 12 at 9:30 PM Eastern, and on May 13 elsewhere in the world. Stay tuned for even more on Microsoft's hot new hardware as news comes in.
So, what are your thoughts? As for me I'll be tuning in to see what all they have, I'm excited.....I'm just not excited that they're showing it on MTV. >:'(

Um http://www.vgchat.com/showthread.php?t=3205
They aren't the same twit.
Are you serious? Wow... Haha
Jeez this news has been around a while. I was waiting for someone to thread it. Thanks Dyers :)
The only reason I can see why MS are doing this is because by revealing a new product on a channel hat the stupid (casual gamers) watch who are also the main part of this indusrty can help gather a fanbase.
If you were waiting for the thread to be made, then why not make it yourself?
I can't believe that MS is unveiling this for the first time on MTV, and not at E3. And I doubt that the gaming footage will be very impressive, or at least not what we expect from next-gen.
Um, why?
I'm anxious to see what will happen. I don't really care for watching MTV but i'll definately watch the show.
Great, because when I think Video Games, I think MTV.[/sarcastic]
Not me... But i'll probably watch it anyways. When I think of poor taste in Music I think MTV.
Microsoft has sold out to the ubar popular minions of America. Help.
I hope they get a large name rapper to introduce it. That way, it will ruin the release more.
I would definately be upset. I mean i'm sure lots would go for it, but myself... I'm not much into the Rap Culture nor MTV. Hopefully it'll just be a normal program that they'll introduce, and not one where 50 cent will come out, sing a song and say two words about it and have girls flash their booties on tv.. -_-
MTV and Microsoft is the worst combination. Two of the worst 'world domination' companies combined. It's not VGTV, it's MTV! The Killers probably have no idea what the XBox 360 is about, just like any of the other B-List 'celebrities' who help promote games consoles, and not unveiling the console at E3 first is plain stupid. Just another move by Microsoft to try and get more casuals away from the PS2.
I dont see a problem with it being shown on MTV, because I dont ever see E3 shows. Doesnt bother me one bit. I cant wait to see it, although I probably wont get it until a few years after it comes out. I didnt get an xbox until December 2004.
I got to see a commercial for it on MTV. It's not a flashy commercial. I hope Microsoft doesn't make fools of themselves. Hopefully they won't make it too QUEER...
You do know that queer, by definition, means odd, right? I just had the feeling you were going for gay. :(
Ah but Gay means Happy... How about we compromise to Fagish...?
It may bring in a new crowd. But chances are it's gonna like men and destroy their Reputation.
I cant wait for the showing on MTV. Is it gonna be like a whole show or just a part of a show?
A whole show. It lasts 30 minutes.
I didn't get to see it but from what I've read of it, the show sucked. www.xbinsider.com has a video from OurColony with lots of information.
High-Res picture of the official X-Box 360:

Horrible! Though I knew it would be, it's MTV for christ's sake.
It was basically twenty minutes of celebrities, and other stuff, with ten minutes dedicated to the 360. Basically, I learned nothing new from it, nor would it sway me to buy it or even consider getting it if I wasn't already going to.

This would probably help a bit more, then, from what I've read.

And an article from The Gamecube Guy. He usually uses lots of sarcasm, and this is no exception. Oh well, gave me something to read for the past few minutes.

And what I've seen of Perfect Dark so far:

Not much, I guess.
Probably the most expensive infomercial in history, Microsoft and MTV weren't shy about making sure gamers hated the 360. There's nothing like the Pimp My Ride dudes praising the system because it might go well with one of the clown cars, or how they failed to mention the revolution of gaming when the PlayStation was introduced (They did have a pic of the system for about 1.5 seconds, though) during their "history." Oh, and the 16-bit era never happened, apparently.
Anyway, I had to read GameSpot's report on the console to try and forget that those 30 minutes of my life never happened, and while I'm not impressed with the graphics (Like I usually am with a next-gen console), I can't wait for the Live upgrade and Perfect Dark, which no longer looks like the sequel to Ice Age.
Agreed, Perfect Dark sounds so bloody awesome it makes me want to cry. I never doubted Rare for a second.
That was the gayest show I've ever watched, the showed the console for like a whole 10 seconds.
We don't give a **** about the celebrities, give us some **** console info!!!
I'm so glad I didn't watch it
you guys are totally right. the show was a complete let down. no valuable informasion was given wahtsoever. the adverts gave ouit more detail than the supposed 'unveiling'. there were way too many performances. too bad. at least i can xpect a lot more from e3. cool.
