For the most part, he is right though. I heard one of my WoW playing friends going on about how this one player is so awesome. I asked him why, and the first thing he said was because he's played for a long time and has the best gear. After that he said skill.
im not saying gear doesnt make a difference. but you also have to deal with spec and skill. a ****ty spec is gonna lose, as is a character with no skills. As a mediocre geared player, ive beaten people in far better gear than me, because i know what im doing. I have a friend that beats people in gear several teirs higher than him in class duels, simply because hes been playing since release and knows his class inside and out
