Interview with Yoshiki Okamoto

Interesting interview with Mr. Okamoto. He's not too shy about exposing the issues he has had with making the games he wants to make with his new studio, Game Republic.

As one of the creators of such titles as 1942, Street Fighter II, Final Fight, and Resident Evil, Yoshiki Okamoto is often cited as the single most important force in building Capcom into the company it is today (only Keiji Inafune, creator of Mega Man and Onimusha, could share such credit). Okamoto also established Flagship (not to be confused with American Flagship Studios), a studio that, under Capcom, worked on the game designs for such The Legend of Zelda titles as The Minish Cap and Four Swords Adventures as well as several of the Resident Evil games. But after 20 years of working at Capcom, he shocked the gaming world in 2004 by abruptly leaving the company and starting a studio of his own called Game Republic. In short time, the independent studio has grown to become one of Japan's biggest, with over 300 employees and several games in development. Though Game Republic's credits are still small (Genji, Folklore, and Brave Story are their best-known titles), the studio's pedigree and momentum demand that they receive attention. Game Republic's latest project is on a game based on a high-profile movie license for Brash Entertainment.

Quoted post: If you've actually played Genji, it's not an Onimusha clone.

Because one was awesome and one sucked, right?

Pretty good read from what I skimmed through, and I plan to read the rest later. Always interesting to read the opinions of an outspoken man.
