CD -> Coaster --> CD?

No, really, is there any possible way to recover CD-R's that didn't burn properly, and as a result, became useless disks? It's been happenening so recently that it I get so pissed when it happenes. 10 CDs are gone from these mis-haps.

I probably already know what the awnser is, but I know it's possible to keep writing on the same CD untill it's full.

Never had this situation before, but try these programs to start:

http://www.davory.com/davory/
http://www.cdroller.com/htm/download.html
http://www.naltech.com/

If these fail, just search for CD R data recovery in Google. Good luck with that.

I think there's a way to erase the contents of a burned CD-R, but I've never done it successfully.

If you haven't closed the cd, then you can still write information onto it, providing that there is room left. Either your cd writer is dying, or you are trying to burn a corrupted file (if you're trying to burn the same files over and over again and it's wasted ten discs already). Do you have other programs running while you are burning? Anyhow, what do you think is the matter?

Eh... let's see, it happens when I burn at the higher speeds for sure (48x with .avi files is NOT reccomended). I get a "fixation error" with Data CDs when I go higher than 24x sometimes. But even on ocasion, I get some strange error on 24x and even 16x once! (I doubt this drive is dying because it's only one year old).

Nothin is running while I burn the CD's, and if if they are running, they don't affect the preformance..

If there's any data on these CDs at all, get a CD-Rom to attempt to read it. Try burning at slower speeds and if there's an option to avoid errors, turn it on. Nero has a feature that allows you to "simulate" the burn process before it begins and if the simulation works, it then turns the lasor on and begins burning; if you can similate the burn in your program, I suggest that you do. It doesn't take long and it might save you several dozen CD-R's.

Have you tried taking one of your CDs (and the files you want to burn) to another burner and attempting with that device? Your burner may be a year old but that doesn't mean that it can't or won't fail before expected. You could also buy a CD that cleans the lenses of burners and CD-ROM drives too; it may be that it's just dirty and unable to write properly.

What a novelty idea huh? I should see if I could clean the drive, just in case some dirty burnings go on.

Lowering the speed helps a lot, but I don't want to have to go down to 1x and wait almost half an hour between CD's. Anything under 24 is pretty much safe. And that whole simulation option, Trigger, for some reason, it's a disabled checkbox everytime for all types of CDs. I don't know why, but that would probably help a lot.
