Anyway, I spent the majority of my day on FFXI, leveling with and being helped by some of my brother's in-game friends. They were all really annoying and, despite the fact that you exp faster with a party who knows what they're doing, I almost wish I had done it with complete strangers. Later in the day, they escorted me through dangerous dungeons on their high-level jobs to help me complete a quest when I really would've rather done it alone and with no help. I then found out later that they thought I wasn't being grateful enough for their assistance.

Baron's equipment is the high-quality version of Trader's equipment with lots of really, really good stat buffs; you use the same recipe to synthesize both sets, and whether or not it's high-quality depends on the craft level of the user. As a level 100 in her craft, we both expected her synthesis to achieve high-quality every time, but random luck always has a factor, and the first two were ordinary quality (Trader's rather than Baron's) while the last one failed altogether (it tells you that you simply lost the materials you were working with). I was just a little disappointed. Fortunately for me, that person happened to have a ton of leftover materials in her storage and was kind enough to try again on her own buck, this time achieving high-quality on everything.

Sorry for so much FFXI stuff, but that's basically all I've been doing lately. I don't really care that no one understands or cares, 'cause it's fun to draw.

My first PS2 is still going strong, but I've had to replace my GameCube twice. ****ing laser needed realigning. But it never cost me anything, since both times it was still under warranty (warranty from purchase the first time, warranty from last repair the second time).

Bought my cube at launch, works as well as it ever has. Same with my 64 and NES and all my gameboys. Xbox, PS1, Genesis still work great too.

Only consoles I've had to replace are the 360 and PS2. The latter because I took it on a planeride and I had it confiscated. It was in my checked luggage, had a red tag on it that said my bag was looked through. Surprise, no PS2. Couldn't get it back either because they said it was misplaced. lol'd hard.

Because you have to interact with people from all over the world, FFXI has something called "Auto-Translate," which are a series of words and phrases relevant to FFXI activities you can choose from that displays to each individual player in their language of choice - either English, Japanese, French or German, the four major languages used in the game. Of course, between those of us who speak the same language, half the fun is arranging those words and phrases in the most amusing ways possible.

This string of auto-translate is only for comic purposes, of course; I wouldn't actually say this to a japanese person in hopes of them knowing what I meant, because I very much doubt the individual literal Japanese translations for "hand" and "job" as they apply to the game combine to mean "hand job" like they do in English.

Today I got in the car and found a dirt path, which led to some pretty nice scenery. At one point, I crested a hill and you could see the sketchy little path run all the way towards some distant mountains. It was really beautiful, though my paint of it isn't. I'll have to go back and take some pics.

I've lived in New Mexico my whole life... and when I go off and explore, it always seems new and wonderful to me. It's good to get away from all of the strife and nastiness of suburbia and the city occassionally, and when you go out there, you're away from pretty much everything and everyone, except the occassional jackrabbit.

I remember when I was ten and I was visting my uncle and cousins who lived out in Fort Irwin which is right in the middle of the mojave desert. And despite the 120 degree plus heat would roam around just in the sand chasing lizards and ****. and at night spoting bats. When I think of the various climates; deserts really seem to stand out. Probably because humans can build in the middle of this dry, arid, hellholes despite conditionis. One second you can have huge skyscrapers, and then have a huge empty plot of land go on for hundreds of miles.

Building in the desert is actually very practical, assuming you can get water running there efficiently. Out here in AZ, especially, there are no natural disasters (except wildfires, and that seldom threatens civilization), no changes in the seasons to be bothered with, giant stretches of flatland with nothing but easily-removed shrub and cacti... Hell, get water and AC out here and this place is a paradise.

Too bad I can't stand it.
