Checking boards is a start.

It always seems like I have to bump these over and over and include links to other spam threads in my posts if I actually expect them to be deleted, so I'll just post this instead since this is getting annoying. :(
Would probably help if we had more than two active moderators.
New mod getz?
I don't know why there isn't a music mod. It's not like Vampiro is doing it still, and he hardly was even when he was active. He even admitted it.
Just say it Omni-
You want in Vamp's pants.. I mean shoes.
Report them and they're more likely to get deleted. Unless the title is self-give-away, I usually overlook stupid threads ("Hi!" "How do you do this?" etc.) that have actual posts in them. Even if they are bumps, I can't tell the difference. So until I get around to looking at it, or they die out, I don't see them.
EDIT: Deleted. Threads were dead give-aways too. Thanks Omni.

It gets annoying for mods when you go to the new post list and can't find threads you're looking for.
Anyways, obvious spam is almost always deleted, and whatever goes over our heads is almost always harmless. Our mods aren't that lazy, but I don't think we need to use most of our time on VGC to pinpoint spam.
Besides, bumping spam threads that don't hurt anyone isn't mush less worse than creating it.
Creating one thread to highlight a problem that's been ongoing for months isn't spamming. I've been having to do it for quite a while because nobody deletes anything if I don't.
Psst, it's not that big of a deal. I don't think VGC is ripping at the seams yet.
It sure is a big responsibility to call to our attention something that doesn't cause problems for anyone!
When there's 3-5 spam threads from bots on the first page of a board, with such diverse topics as free porn, places to download things illegally and electronics sales, I think it's indicative that there's little attention being paid by moderators.
No, it's not a major problem, but it's something all competent staff on message boards typically deal with on a regular basis by actually checking boards.
Long story short, you're not being moderated.
Because we were all thinking it.
That's okay, Iris. I forgive you for not being able to complete what's generally expected of a global moderator on a message board, which would be checking all the boards on a site instead of just your favorite ones, and complaining when people report spam threads.
Yeah, because I don't check new posts at least 5 times a day and delete every spam thread I see, sure thing buddy. :cookie:
Or, you know, I don't consider things that were missed 5 weeks ago urgent enough to search for.
The ones in this thread were from within a week of today, and were among the highest new threads all in a single board, so I'm pretty sure that it's just a case of nobody actually looking, as I've already stated.
Considering I wind up doing this every week or so, but usually don't make a thread about it, it's something that I think moderators could take 30 seconds to do if they happen to visit the site once in a while.
I visit frequently, but I don't check each individual board and scroll across the first page. In fact, I mainly moderate out of the new posts list, looking at non-matching thread titles and forums, moonspeak, obvious trolls, advertising and such, as well as the threads of infractions so I can tell where the infracted user posted. I doubt many mods have enough time on their hands to check every forum's latest threads of the past month, and if they do, I'm concerned for their families.
whatever happened to speedfreak, Linko, and Linkman?
lol
Hi
Yeah, it's not like we get paid to keep VGC "perfect". Most of what we catch is what we come across while browsing, and we're usually pretty lenient on what we let stay. Unless it's obvious spam, trolling, or uncalled for flaming, we just let it die on it's own. When we went around being serious about modding and trying to "improve VGC", everyone complained. The inevitable is, whether you want to believe it or not, drama and idiocy is the glue that holds this place together. It's been that way for years now.
I can keep an eye on the music board as out of 6 (excluding Vamp) of us, I'm probably the only one who goes in there.
doesnt really seem like the board is flooded with spam. i mod on quite a few boards and i've seen alot worse.
Someone needs to prune your account.
