There was a thread on this earlier but it quickly turned into some crap about the Matrix so I decided not to bump it.
Anyhoo, what's your thoughts on this? I'm not saying mine yet, but I will say the comments section on any Kotaku news post about the film tends to be a lesson in point missing.
Also, first promo image!

Face doesn't look too serious but Goku is a young man in the movie after all, they did a pretty good job of hair I reckon.
IT'S OVER NINE THOUSANDS!!! LOLOL XD RANDUM
We'll probably never get to see it, anyway.
haha, man. that's a bad promo image.
Banned in the UK?
GAIJIN SMASH!
You mean our promo image won't feature a horribly boring actor on it in a ****ty, boring costume and stupid facial expression with a lame flare hovering over his hands?
I sure hope so!
This may come as a shock to you, but no one on this planet, especially a Hollywood actor, actually looks like Goku. Didn't people stop *****ing about this type of stuff 5 minutes after it was announced?
Yeah, the amount of people who think the actors should be dressed EXACTLY like the characters in the Japanese manga is amazing. There's a very good reason Batman look's fucking stupid in every single film, the art directors consistently fail to realise that some shit doesn't translate directly to real life from comic books.
Except for his latest outfit. The new movies pretty much got it down. He's supposed to look like a bat, you know.
Bah, Batman has always looked fine in all the movies, outside the infamous Batman & Robin nipple suit. It's not like Goku has a fantastic suit or anything that I ever remember seeing that wouldn't translate to screen, outside his last two Super Saiyan-jin transformations.
Not that that matters, I'm much more worried about the energy projectiles and such will look special effect-wise over unimportant costuming.
I think this is based on Dragon Ball, Old_Snake, so I doubt they're going to get even close to Super Saiyan and **** like that. Pretty sure this is just where Goku meets Chichi and finds the Dragon Balls. King Piccolo is probably the bad guy.
Except for his latest outfit. The new movies pretty much got it down. He's supposed to look like a bat, you know.
...do you even know what bats look like? No matter the movie, the suit always look wrong compared to the comics or especially the cartoon series. There simply aren't any materials in the real world that look or behave like they do in those mediums, much less people with a similar form.
I'm just saying I don't think in any of the Dragonball lore, I don't remember seeing Goku costumed in anything fantastic that wouldn't translate like Speedfreak and Bebop have made them out to, outside those two transformations.
I mean really, for the most part he just wears a orange shirt, pants and an undershirt. It's more the way the character is drawn that makes it look implausible. As far as the clothes themselves, I don't see the problem.
He wears a gi, a basic martial arts uniform, the only thing remotely interesting about it are that it looks Japanese but with shaolin monk (chinese) colours.
I wouldn't worry about the special effects, the budget for this movie is bigger than that for The Matrix, and they're obviously saving cash on the actors themselves.
The only real worry I have for this movie is how they portray Dragonball, I hope it'll retain the heroism and strong morals and not simply be reduced to an aggressive, brutal martial arts flick. Half the reason Dragonball is great is the whimsical fantasy and kung fu influence.
He's supposed to be a ****ing bat, you guys. The jagged-edged cape and pointy ears kind of play into his name being, you know, BATman. He was designed as a guy in tights. To this day, he is still a guy in tights. If anything, his recent movie translations are the best ones.
Huh, I didn't think it was even debated whether or not Batman looks badass in the latest films. Horned masks = hawt.
I'd laugh so hard if they found some poor guy whose face looks just like Goku's, or who was about the same size as him. And that promo looks extremely... brown, or mahogany, whatever. It'll be interesting to see those characters (in full color!) acting side by side, because as of right now I can't even guess how they'll relate. Not a big fan of Dragonball, but since it's kind of a big deal, I'm looking forward to it.
Actually, I put that up for debate, Slade. I think Batman always looks stupid in real life, and unless someone drastically changes his costume for a film he always will do.
He's supposed to be a ****ing bat, you guys. The jagged-edged cape and pointy ears kind of play into his name being, you know, BATman. Okay, we know what bats are and who Batman is, and realise that Batman is supposed to vagely resemble a bat. I'm just saying that when you bring that costume into real life it goes from looking kind of cool (in a dorky comic book kind of way) too looking like the star of some gay, vinyl fetish porno (in a dorky comic book kind of way). I'm speaking as someone who, honestly, doesn't care all that much for comic books. Perhaps he looks super sweet to longtime Batman fans, but from a casual observer's point of view he's a guy in shiny rubber.
But you can get away with it much easier because Batman is a huge part of western culture. Dragonball not so much, so obviously Goku isn't going to be riding on a yellow cloud or taking off 16 year old girls panties, and I doubt Piccolo is going to look identical to how he does in the anime because that would look stupid and would be much less forgivable. They have to tone it down to be more realistic so it actually has appeal outside of the hardcore fans who, apparantly, don't want to see the film anyway.
No, no, he's supposed to be like a man who resembles a bat. Dark, bats, night, destroyer of evil, etc. He's most definitely supposed to remind you of a bat.
As for DBZ actors looking like their cartoon counterparts, it would be hokey to have a pointy-eared genderless green person running around trying to be serious. He's supposed to be from a different planet, though, so I have no idea what the movie-makers are going to do.
And yet, tons of people have a paralyzing fear of bats. HUH
So because some people are scared of them bats now have some reputation of being destroyers of evil? Lol what? Some people are scared of mice, I guess they have a repuation of...being destroyers of evil too?
If anything they are attributed to evil rather than good. Wayne chose a Bat because it was his fear, nothing to do with anyone elses.
Regardless of how crappy it looks I'm gonna go see it with a friend for the ****ing lulz.
The character may have changed but the points still stand: he wasn't created to be a bat to relate to real life fears becuase it wasn't a big enough thing to consider about the character at the time of birth.
So they're the exact opposite...because they both say how bats aren't scary? Yeh, I see the logic.
I'm not saying alot of people AREN'T afraid of bats. People are afraid of alot of things. Alot of people are afraid of balloons. Does that mean they have a repuation of being scary?
Bats and demons arent as scary as they used to be. Who actually fears satan nowadays? That was a big fear ageeeeeees ago but in our culture this day and age it's not as big thus they dont have a repuation. It's gone.
Same goes for snakes. Fear of snakes and bats is largly because of the bible but who reads that old thing?
Spiders though. Their top of the list. They're scary. Ugly little buggers and my house is invested with them. Huge one. One WOKE me up one night. I just heard it moving across my Dark Knight poster coincidentally.
Snakes and Spiders:
Actually, the bible probably shaped stories around our preexisting fears of snakes. Cultures that aren't, and weren't, influenced by christianity exibit the same phobias for snakes and spiders that bible-countries do. This, and lots of other evidence, leads to scientists to conclude it's more of an evolutionary trait than a cultural trait.

As far as I know, you're right on the money about bats. It's a western phobia.
There are some bats that live in my attic. They sure as hell scare the hell out of the neighbors when they go flying around at night.
You're the only person I've heard even propose the idea that bats are scary in the slightest. It's moe plausable to be more afraid for spiders than bats because aside from being a darn sight uglier you're more likely to see one. Whether or not it will attack you is irrelevant considering the chance of being bitten by a spider, or even a bat, is so small. Fears like this have never been based on any rational thought process anyway.
He was created back then like this:
-He has a costume that looks like the silhouette of a bat.
-His headquarters are in a cave.
-Dark costumes are cool.
-He fights crimes mostly in the night, which plays into the whole nocturnal bat thing.
The bat part isn't supposed to strike fear, his entire reputation is. Seriously, if there was a real-life Batman speeding in the streets I'd probably pee myself.
being afraid of spiders makes as much sense as being afraid of bats. It only makes sense if the spider can physically harm you, and let's face it, not a whole lot of people live near those things. Plus, I don't think I've met or even heard of a girl that isn't freaked out by bats.
Being afraid of spiders makes a lot more sense! Are you nuts? They are EVERYWHERE. Dr. Vladimir Ovtsharenko said it: you are rarely more than six feet away from a spider at any point in your life. Knowing that one of these (sometimes poisonous) bloodsuckers are so nearby your entire life is a little creepy. Bats, on the other hand? How many of you, honestly, outside of crappy movies, museums, National Geographic, Zoobooks, or whatever, have actually seen a bat up close? I'm out at night a LOT and I can see them silhouetted against the moon, but I've never actually had one up close.

DB movie? I'm curious as to what the storyline will be. I just hope it's not as long and drawn out as the cartoons were. :(
It'll be a 6 hour movie with roughly 3 hours consisting of "hhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!" *chi wave sounds* "GRAAAAAAAA!" *more chi waves* "KAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA- MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE- HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA- MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE- HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Or something to that effect.

Thanks for that, couldn't stand Vamp's lack of reading comprehension much more.
Yeah, I wouldn't worry about that. The only reason it was dragged out in the anime was because the anime was being made a couple of episodes behind the manga, so 1 manga comic = 1 20 minute episode. Problem was each manga was 12 pages long, sometimes a single panel of mountains illuminated by energy attacks would fill one page. Where they couldn't add attacks or dialog in they had to drag it out.
The film's story is where Goku fights Piccolo right at the beginning of Dragonball. Well, actually that accounts for pretty much all of Dragonball. So the film will probably revolve around him learning how to fight, Piccolo looking for the Dragonballs and Goku and the gang trying to stop him culiminating in a fight to the death at the end. Apparantly they're already working on a sequel and it'd make sense to keep the same villain so perhaps he'll spawn Piccolo Jr at the end too. Speculation is fun!

Oh please, point out what I'm not getting.
Everything is your fault, Vamp.
Obviously, Bebop is a perfect writer that explains his points of view flawlessly everytime, so it has to be your reading comprehension that's causing all the problems.
You're also dumb for having the view point of a moron. Afterall, the Speebop duo get to decide what the smart view point is, and we're all suppose to roll over. Do anything besides agree you're wrong, and they'll run a filabuster like marathon of rants that's capabable of detrailing a thread about an upcoming DBZ movie to discussing the vary nature of fear induced by animals.

You fail to realize it wasn't Speedy or Bebop that "detrailed" the thread. Speedy made a very good comparison that got carried away by Fate, Old_Snake, and Bebop. Speedy made a tiny reference and it got jumped on like a bouquet at a wedding. Your sarcasm sucks.

I didn't catch DB way back then. As a matter of fact, I was never really interested in DB or anime in general, ever. Well, except for Sailor Moon, those chicks were hawt.:p

You fail to realize I was just responding to Speedy's blunt criticism of Vamp's reading comprehension, which I have a heavy suspicion Speedy only said it because Vamp had aruged with Bebop and didn't back down.

And your problem would be seeing arguements where their are none and setting up strawmans. Do you have any fucking idea how often I disagree with my brother? I already argued with him over his point on MSN. I just got annoyed by Vamp perpetuating the already stupid arguement.
But for the record, Batman was never supposed to be scary. The choice of a bat is purely because they're active at night, the character was retrofitted with a scary personality. Bats are scary like spiders, but that's not the reasoning behind Batman and it doesn't deal with the core issue that he looks bloody stupid in real life. Do you even realise that's what the entire point was before Fate derailed it by stating the obvious?
Quit *****ing. Threads get derailed all the time and the only reason anyone would point it out these days is when a thread gets boring and tired and there is nothing to talk about. To get past everyone's blatant dick-sucking around here, I made a comment in reference to a Batman suit that Speedy mentioned first. It didn't need to carry on from there, but since Bebop is a retard it did.
And your comment was wrong. Remember, you said he was supposed to look exactly like a bat? If you don't want stuff like this to happen stop saying dumb ****. That's as far as your contriubtion went to this derailement. Then on in it was mostly Vamp and I (which compared to previous installments of history was actually quite civillised and polite) as per usual so stop acting as you've been dragged along with it when you've been smuggily sitting outside it only daring to come back in at the end to play your classic "lol I'm done with this I need to save Face" card.
He's supposed to look like a bat. He is Batman. You can take the world "look" as literally as you want, but anyone with a brain can easily infer that "look like" can mean "resemble". There's nothing to save face on and you are an idiot. Honestly, if my contribution to the derailment was only that much, why the hell did you carry it on so stupidly?
In this case saying resemble first would have have made things clearer. Discussion with you ended when you clarified, and everything else became a discussion on fear in and around Batman. And it perhaps carried on so stupidly because the comment that sparked it was a stupid one?
"Look like" doesn't mean "exactly is". :cookie:
So has it even been confirmed that this movie will see a western release? To me (since there are obviously going to be differences between the hand drawn fantasy world and the real world) it seems that this is the kind of movie that won't find release outside of the East due to fear of low ticket/dvd sells. So does anyone have some solid informantion on a release date that isn't in Japan? I am interested in seeing this movie but I also know that I need to take it with a grain of salt. I mean a cartoon were people shoot energy beams out of there hands, fly through the air, travel through space to strange plants, fight crazy planet destorying monsters all the time, its obviously going to have some serious problems going into film. As for the bad actors that they've picked for the roles, who cares. If its released over here they will most likely dub over the voice acting with shotty American actors. So lets just wait for the film and see what happens.
!
I was under the impression that the movie was going to be made for the US. :/

How am I suppose to have any ****ing idea what you are saying to Bebop privately? I'm only going off what I (and others,) have observered on this forum about you and your bro.
It's just when Vamp and Bebop started going at it, you re-emerged into this thread with a slam on Vamp. I saw that as a defencive gesture for your bro, so I did a defensive gesture for Vamp to even the odds. I couldn't care less who actually derailed what.

No, it got derailed because you made a completely worthless comment and confused Bebop and Vamp, both often idiots in their own completely unique ways, about what was actually being debated. Threads get derailed all the time because you and Vamp in particular have abysmal reading comprehension skills, and it's well worth bitching about because it ends up turning into 6 pages of inane arguing over something literally no one is interested in. Argh!
But I'm going to pull this thread back on course, damnit.

Have no fear, the movie itself is a western-made movie. It will be popular because Dragonball Z is absurdly popular in the US, it routinely tops DVD sales charts year after year. It's always been big in Europe, too. The quality of the actors is debatable, I for one don't automatically assume Chatwin is a shitty actor because he's only ever had minor roles. The guy playing Piccolo is very enthusiastic about his role and after watching a few clips of his acting I found on Youtube I'm not really worried.
As for the fighting, it's pretty much The Matrix with energy blasts, it's thoroughly doable in a film.
If "Bodies" is on the soundtrack, I swear to God, I'm going to kick the crap out of whoever I watch it with. That's a promise.

That's the conclusion you jumped to, key word being jumped because you made a leap of faith over the metaphorical gap in your evidence.
But I suppose I'm just being a cunt with logic here, it probably did look like I was defending Bebop. I thought both of them were pretty wrong and were just bouncing the same lines off eachother, but I went for Vamp first because he was both wrong and annoyingly persistant with being wrong, Bebop was at least right sometimes and had the knowledge and logic to back up about half his arguement.
Speedy:

Yeah, it's the beginning of Dragonball. It's about where Piccolo was an old, evil man and wanted to **** **** up. Instead of Goku adventuring as a child I think he's just gonna be a guy that knows martial arts and Bulma through school, who then learns from Roshi after Piccolo steals Bulma's Dragonball.
There's a bit about Piccolo from wikipedia:
Piccolo is gonna get goku mad, and he's gonna go ssj3 and fukken kamehameha his has oh then spirit bomb man that'll be crazy
Wiki it, that's where I've gotten all my info.
Seriously, Speedy-
Justin Chatwin as Goku?
Dragonball special effects are being done by Amalgamated Dynamics and Ollin studios. The film will also have the anime style of fighting in Dragon Ball, such as chi energy blasts and the auras. It is unclear if signature moves, such as Goku's Kamehameha or Piccolo Jr.'s Special Beam Cannon, will be used in the film. Other special effects, such as Piccolo's green skin, will also be in the film. The makeup is being done by Ed French and takes a 4-hour process.

Four hours to make an alien? Seems pretty lazy when considering it took 10 hours to create 'Mystique'.
Man, this film is giving me such a B-movie vibe. Do we even know what Sagas it encompasses?
YES! I've said like three times! It's pre DBZ, towards the end of DB where Goku fights Piccolo. That's the only part of DB where something actually happens anyway.
I did that earlier, but never found any info about sales, at least recent sales anyway.
I was somewhat skeptic of DBZ still getting hugely popular in the States. I have no doubt it has a fairly solid fanbase, but I was under the impression that it's overall popularity had dumbed down considerably in the last few years. It rarely comes on TV anymore, that I know of, and I rarely see merchandising anymore. I knew the Seasons have been getting re-released, but I assumed it was just milking the hardcore fans.
I guess I am wrong, though, I mean it does have a 100+ million dollar budget from an American studio, so I guess it still has some amount of popularity to get green lighted with that kind of cash behind it
It's not just America, DB is massive everywhere. It's obviously huge in Japan but it was huge in Europe too before it was ever localised for America. This is as epic a film as Transformers, it's literally the same kind of era for most of the fans. On top of that there's the more recent American fans.
I don't get all the Chatwin hate, I don't remember him being a bad actor or anything. I figure most of it is how he looks. Remember, he's playing

Is Goku actually gonna wear his traditional Gi in this, or are we stuck with a generic shirt?
haha, terrible...
People working at theaters should just hand out dvds. I call straight to video.

That's a very sound idea-
Is Goku actually gonna wear his traditional Gi in this, or are we stuck with a generic shirt?
We'll it's pre-Master Roshi so I guess that would be an explanation for the shirt. I think I have seen him in a gi at some point, dunno where I could find the image though. Guess we'll have to wait til next year to find out reall anything about this movie.
That's a very sound idea-

The DBZ movie, or my post?
The former-
New poster up for the movie, pretty generic looking, but better than Goku just standing there I guess

Bulma is hawt
No blue hair, attraction N/A
lol , I love goku's hair. I thought goku was wearing a Dragon ball z anime shirt for some reason
Haha, oh man. Reminds me of the promo **** from the DoA movie. Terrible.
Oh wow-
Chow Yun-Fat as Master Roshi, and Ernie Hudson as Master Mutaito?
Lame..
Is there anything about a sex scene?
Please be some sweet/awesome android sex in thar. Please please-please.. PLLEEEEEEEEEAASSSEEEEE..
I cant imagine Chow Yung being remotely fun as Roshi is in the show. He looks irritated at something in the poster.

Tacky *** shirt, maybe?
nah, just the fact that his career has taken such a horrible turn
He never had a career.
Ever.

You consider Bulletproof Monk an honest film career?
You're crazy Vamp, ****in' crazy..
It was a bad career before. Now it's horrible. Still a step down.

I don't think it'll be bad, just another B movie.
b movies are bad. It's just whether or not this can be bad enough to be good.

BULMA
Then that's gonna be unrequited love, cause it ain't happening *****!
BULMA LEAPS UP AND STARTS BLASTING! MAI LEAPS UP AND STARTS BLASTING AT POINT BLANK RANGE!
LIKE THE "GUN KATA" FROM THE MOVIE EQUILIBRIUM, THEY DUCK AND BLOCK EACH OTHERS PISTOLS LIKE FENCERS. CHINK! CLINK! POW! CHANK! POW! CHINK! CLANK! PISTOLS CLANGING, ROUNDS FIRING. THIS IS SOME COOL ****!
Piccolo looks awesome. I'm actually amazed they got him to look remotely like Piccolo without getting into some serious Batman-In-Real-Life shit.
EDIT: Is this script real? The first few minutes of the film are vintage Dragonball, I'm amazed how good that was.
abysmal.
It's a draft of the screenplay. We haven't established if it's the final one or something earlier in pre-product yet.
Read it all. I don't think this is it. The movie is supposed to be the first in a trilogy, but Piccolo doesn't appear in the first third of the script. Was good, though Krillin doing nothing at all was kinda weird.
Krillin doing nothing at all was kinda weird.
wtf? Krillin never did anythin except die. Sounds like they got his part down perfectly.
You're thinking of DBZ. In original Dragon Ball, he was kind of a big deal. He got eclipsed when they started having power level dick-waving contests.
He was a ****ty character anyways. Same with pretty much every other supporting character/friend of goku's.
I wonder if they'll use the DBZ formula
Formula:
Goku fire Energy ball
BIG BOOM
Smoke fade-in
Somke fade-out
Enemy stands untouched
Goku astonished at out come... once again
(skip ahead)
Goku Power lvl increases after a chant/transformation/memory/fruit/w/e
Goku kills bad guy.
HERE'S A SENZU BEAN, ****ING EAT IT
Krillin was a great character. You're an idiot.
yeah, remember that time krillin uhhhh
got hair
Came back from the dead and cut off Freeza's tail, cleared out the saiabmen after Yamcha died, threw the first spirit bomb, stopped Vegeta at his ship with a katana...
...destroyed the remote.
Destructo disk! FTW
Krillin had to reprogram an android to marry him, that's just how undesirable he really was. **** Krillin, and all his supposed "accomplishments". Did he really do anything that any other character couldn't do 10X better? ****, the guy was the contrast-guy. All he did was stand next to Gohan to make him look stronger. In every fight, he was the sports announcer with nothing but blunt observations to say. Why like the commentator?
And the destructo disk? Yeah, that was impressive for a few episodes, but then everyone could do it! It's asif Akira Toriyama was one morning looking at a picture of Krillin and had a revalation.
"omfg, Krillin is the worst ****er amoung my cast of heroes, and I gave him a cool move. Better change that **** quick. Wait! eazy fix! If ****-head Krillin can do it, then technically anyone can!"
Krillin's stupid. I hate Krillin.
Krillin is cool, its not his fault he's short and human.
yes it is. YES IT ****ING IS.
he was only there to make goku look like more of a badass and as comic relief.
Why is Voldermort in the movie?
Which one was Krillin again?
small bald guy with dots on his forehead
Oh yeah, i always wondered whether he was a midget or not. Yeah he was pretty lame.
And maybe I'm thinking of someone else, but didn't he have hair at one point or another? I didn't follow the series too well.
Hair was crucial to determining character's strength, which is exactly why Krillin was bald for most of the series.
frieza, cell and piccolo
OBJECTION
Tails and wings if not hair. THERE!!!
maijin buu
General Tao. Androids 16, 17 and 18, Garlic Jr, Nappa, Hercule.
Yes, I am a cunt.
Hercule was a faggot. Worst character ever.
My fave movie is Bojack Unbound, I watched it years ago
Dragonball GT is not that good.but the action sequences is still fun to watch. It is a novel approach to the DBZ saga.
That whole hercule saga was ****ing terrible.
Krillin was already the comic distraction who couldn't do jack ****, so Hercule was useless.

clip of the trailer. Bad quality, but hey, the movie itself looks like **** anyways. I would've never guessed it was Dragonball if the title wasn't there.
Saw it a day or so ago, and I must say it looks like ****. View trailer here. Clip to more trailers, possibly better quality.
I can't see why this movie will suck. Seriously, I just saw Doom last night and it wasn't nearly as bad as people made it out to be.
Well, if you think Doom is good then you'll probably find the Dragon Ball movie good aswell.
It wasn't as bad as people made it seem. It felt like a been-there-done-that at the very most.
Doom was garbage because it had a B plot with even worse B list actors.
Expanding on what Tyler just said, Doom is the perfect movie making fumble because it follows the B-film criteria so effortlesly it's hard not to assume Hollywood wanted it to fail.
1. The movie adaptation was WAAAY off the actual game, making a huge emphasis over a serious plot that simply didn't belong.
2. CGI up the yin-yang. Obviously CGI is where too much of the budget went instead of writers, actors, exc. It became frosting on a **** cake.
3. Actors weren't ment to be. I can't say this is entirely the caste's fault (The Rock being a great actor and all...), but none of the characters were likable. For me personally, I hate them to the point of not wanting to watch the movie. I can see what the director thought he was doing; Horror movies make unlikable characters so when they die it's not too disheartening, but in Doom I just didn't give a **** if they lived or died, I wanted my time back from watching it. If you're going to make a serious movie (which is what they tried doing it seemed) you need serious actors...fail.
dragonball movie looks so ****ing hollywood-ized :/ but then again i didn't really expect anything less. i just hope this movie doesn't show us what we have in store for live action Akira and Cowboy Bebop.

Good torch run, buddy.
One major aspect of the film I think the developement crew tried to convey was the release of DOOM 3, rather than a new feature film within the established DOOM series. As made evident with some of the chainsaw senario with a bit of D3 (likeness atleast) demon pressance chucked in not to alienate it too- too much astray. How can you **** up a DOOM flick when you have so many offshoot novelizations and the game series for substantial material. If they continued making DOOM films and actually succeed in making a good one, then I would have to place that first installment as the "Doom 64" of film.
I'm aware of the source of the Doom movie. See: Resident Evil movies. The source of the core material didn't really matter when it came to the production of the movie; regardless of the source, it really wasn't that bad because of the stray. Although personally I didn't like the RE movies.
Also, CGI was used minimally! No joke. The most that CGI was used was during the FPS scene, and most of the time the only digital thing was the gun.
Also, it felt like a B movie with B-movie actors. But it wasn't as bad as people made it seem. It wasn't unwatchable or anything.
Oh Fate, it was bad. I can't even bring myself to watch it, and my girlfriend slaps me whenever I bring up the thought of seeing it again. Let alone, buying it to see it again.
Ahem!
I didn't say it was a great movie, I said it wasn't as bad as people made it out to be. I find it to be watchable, at least.
Amazing what's getting passed as watchable these days. . .
My favorite movie is also Mortal Kombat. I love dumb fun movies. They don't have to be intricate or deep to make me have fun watching it.
Do you know how HARD I laughed when there was a jump part in the FPS part of the Doom movie? I loved it.
Fate, did you enjoy DoA? Because that's what this movie is starting to look like. DoA with energy balls.
ALL VIDEO GAME FILMS always end up with the same ending = SUCKage!
Never saw DoA, but the story of DoA is shallow to begin with so it's not surprising the movie was, too.
DoA has a story?
Boobs with their own laws of physics.
Mixed martial arts with limitations to each art.
Slap in a ninja from certain popular chain of side scrollers for support cast because overall game sucks for eye catching..
This movie is going to fail so hard. The teaser just makes it more aware that this movie wasn't suppose to be made. Besides, Piccolo looks like he's a bigger version of Garlic Jr.
Piccolo just looks like major ***, personally he came off as a cheap Joss Whedon vampire extra. Being that James Marsters was Spike and can never shake that ugly look of his.
Basically character background stories that all converge to a tournament/fight off of some sort, right?
That's how it feels to me, Koa.
Which came first, the Tekken or the egg?!
I'm really pumped up to watch movie. I have been fan since childhood. and In my personal opinion I feel that animation is more interesting awesome than another anime movies.
http://kotaku.com/5106241/dragonball-movie-trailer-is-a-new-kind-of-stupid
Get past the nerds wheezing complaints about canon between puffs of their inhaler and the movie actually (seriously!!!) looks pretty good. It's more serious than the manga but it's not as far removed as The Dark Knight is from the original Batman comics, so I would't call that a legitimate complaint.
Oh dear ***.
At least Bulma looks somewhat attractive.
Hahaha, holy ****. It looks like it takes itself way too seriously. Thus, looks stupid as hell.
chadwick looks like he's playing a pretty **** Goku. was glad @ the capsule sequence but the rest looks ridiculous.
The special effects actually looked way better than I expected, like they actually put money into the product. Which has the negative effect of making it look like a serious movie. Which is very, very bad.
Plus, seeing Goku as a white guy surrounded by asians makes me laugh.
Goku is a white guy. I still don't think it's as ridiculous as a grown man in a bat suit killing a clown, but whatever.
oh right he's an alien.
anyways, it takes a ****ton of skill and talent to make a guy in a bat suit chasing a clown something serious and not laughable. Being serious was never a priority of dragonball if I recall. So instead of being a fun, cheesy movie like the show was this looks stupid and ridiculous.
why the **** is it subtitled 'evolution'
oh right he's an alien.

No skill is required, only a nation of people who have gotten accustomed to the idea that a man in a bat suit isn't a completely ridiculous concept over a period of several decades.
At it's inception Batman was the single least serious thing ever created. Dragonball was always serious when it wanted/needed to be, which towards the end of its run was most of the time (there's no distinction between Dragonball and DBZ in the manga). The movie is based on a relatively serious portion where Goku was a young adult fighting Piccolo.
why the **** is it subtitled 'evolution'
I have no fucking idea.
No skill is required, only a nation of people who have gotten accustomed to the idea that a man in a bat suit isn't a completely ridiculous concept over a period of several decades.
By that logic, everyone should have gotten accustomed to everything that was created decades ago; which clearly not everything did. Man in a bat suit isn't cool: a rich orphan with a vengence problem who learns martial arts and invests his money into beating up bad guys, while also living a double life that doesn't allow him to take credit for all his work, that's what's appealing. That, and all his cool cadgets and ****. And don't forget about the villains! People love Batman villains.
So basically you're saying anybody, no matter their talents, can take something and make it better? Hmmm.
At it's inception Batman was the single least serious thing ever created.
So if Batman can be serious, everything can be serious! Disregard the fact Batman's been reinvented quite a few times, and only now have people started to accept a serious version. Ya know, Tim Norton's version of Batman was also serious when it needed to be, depending on what a person considers "needed". Can't wait to see Sponge Bob blow Patrick away for taking his hard earned Crabby Patty Drug money.
The movie was bad, but not a gagfest like that Chun-Li movie. It brings out the little kid in you.
why was Goku's hair never consistent? near the end it looked pretty good but the rest of the movie it wasn't.
the accuracy toward the manga/anime was obviously way off but in a way I kind of liked that, it was almost like a real life take on dragon ball.
some special effects looked ****ty, like him being the ape looked choppy and claymation - like. and the kamehameha being used to revive was ridiculous.
overall not a great movie but I enjoyed it alot, and am more than excited for a sequel.
I "Haha, oh wow'd" at everything in the movie.
Especially at Piccolo's Frieza-bomb-to-destroy-everything blast and the small assed size of the tournament "stage".
Watched the first 20 minutes when someone uploaded it to Youtube.
...Jesus Christ.
I liked the fight Goku didn't fight in, everything past that was sucky.
kamehameha to revive? WTF?
Well at least someone made a Dragonball movie, hopefully someone else decides to take the movie and make it good.
How come no one charged up their Ki for like 9 hours?
bojack unbound, world's strongest, and rebirth of fusion are the best dbz movies
you bots don't know what talkn' bout.
I can't wait for the movie man....
