Apparently the compilation is really unrepresentative, taking the majority of its tracks from his most recent, post-revival albums. I wouldn't know myself - I love The Smiths, but haven't heard any of Morrissey's solo stuff yet. I know I won't be starting here though.
get You Are The Quarry for your first Morrissey album :)
this is like the first time i've ever disagreed with g-sides, but do not start with 'you are the quarry'. do yourself a huge favor and get 'bona drag' (an excellent comp of his early solo singles) or, if you want an 'album', get 'viva hate'.
'you are the quarry' was kinda weak, imo, though it was his best solo album in like 10 years ('vauxhall and i').
i favor you are the quarry mainly for Let Me Kiss You. i fcking LOVE that song. 8-)
