I don't do much NES collecting any more because I already own just about every game I wanted, so I can't comment on prices and rarity.
I will just mention NES games worth owning/playing if you can find/afford them.
Fire 'N Ice
Warning: Expensive. You won't find a better action/puzzle game though.
Gremlins 2
Overhead view platformer. Great music. Probably the best movie game on NES.
Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu
Side-scrolling action, platformer. Easy pick up and play.
Legacy of the Wizard
Adventure/puzzle/RPG hybrid.
Legend of the Ghost Lion
Decent lesser known NES RPG.
M.C. Kids
Extremely underrated Mario-style platformer. Excellent stage design.
Metal Gear
If you're a fan of the series, get it.
Nightshade
Point-and-click style mystery game. Extremely funny dialog.
Ninja Gaiden
Groundbreaking for its time. Still a solid action game.
Rygar
The original YoYo of Death!
Strider
Side-view action/adventure
There's also the more well-known stuff like the Contras, Castlevanias, Super Marios, and Mega Mans that are all worth getting.
Willow and the rest of the Dragon Warrior games. Bubble Bobble, too.

I have it. I remember really enjoying it. It's a puzzle game, right? I remember great difficulty and me biting my lower lip. I beat it and was excited.
yea, its a puzzle game. i haven't played in for a while so maybe ill give it another try eventually. im actually playing the legend of zelda right now
Also a good game. I was stuck for about a year at the part where you have to walk through a wall or something. I was so frustrated when I finally discovered it. I like all like "how was I supposed to know to walk through a wall." I believe I beat the game that same day and was happily surprised to find a second quest afterwards.

I believe it was 7 that I was stuck at for over a year with the stupid walk through walls secret. Gosh!
