Some Sprite-Related Things...

... that I've recently discovered and deserve some props.

First off, actually doing some browsing on SmackJeeves, I've found that not every comic there is complete crap (except for The VGMT, Filler: TSK, That VGC Show and Linko Man, of course). In particular, I'm outstandingly impressed with Two Evil Scientists. It's a comic by a talented fellow named RyanMC, who I'm proud to say has fav'd Linko Man.

Basically, the way I see it, there was kind of a golden age of sprite comics following Bob and George. Maybe it was because all the ideas hadn't become tired yet, or maybe it was because not every little ****ant had yet been consumed with the idea that he or she could make a sprite comic, but there were definitely the stellar names that shined out : That's My Sonic!, Life of Wily, 8-Bit Theatre, et cetera. However, with the only one of these giants still chugging (**** Yeah 8-Bit Theatre) and even the sub-comics of each site either full of crap or just not updating much, it seems like there are no particularly awesome webcomics out there for me to enjoy. They're all mediocre or just plain bad. I may finally be a pseudo-successful spriter myself, but **** it, I still want some heroes!

Two Evil Scientists has revived that for me. I mean, it's not even original! It's just Sonic and Mega Man being put through their paces as the heroes who must stop the villains, Dr. Wily and Dr. Robotnik, and it's hilarious! It proves that it's not the fact that the concepts originally embraced by Bob and George and the rest haven't become tired out, it's just that most authors just just aren't funny anymore.

So I wanted to give Two Evil Scientists some serious props. If you miss the good old comics as much as I do, go read it.

Okay, now for item number 2 on my list, which isn't a comic, but it's sprite related.

There was a time when I could award the title of best action/adventure sprite flash movies to VideoGame Director's Cut. Their animations were extremely creative and action-packed (albeit slightly gross and immature), all the way from the original Mario vs. Sonic (it was great in its time, trust me), all the way up to the much more epic and impressive (I promise) Rise of the Mushroom Kingdom 1, 2, 3 and 4. If you've never seen any of these, I implore you to take some time and check them out before continuing. It's always been my favorite for epic Mario fan adventures.

However, that torch has been passed. I've just recently discovered the awesomeness of Super Mario Bros. Z I realize that the very first one of these is almost two years old, so many of you may know about it already, but bear with me.

You remember Dragon Ball Z, right? What was cool about it? World-destroying super powers and extremely fast-paced and action-packed battles, right? Well, what was bad about it? The action always took a back seat to long-winded, repetitive dialog and explanations, and the fighting was often watered down with either two characters floating next to each other with blurred punches and blocks, or they took fifty episodes just to charge some super attack.

Super Mario Bros. Z has all of those pluses and none of the minuses. Not only are the battles filled with mind-blowing displays of power and agility, they're also are expertly choreographed and never interrupted with pointless blabber. Plus, it makes even more creative use of Mario and Sonic's abilities than VGDC did. Seriously impressive stuff. It's unfinished, but definitely worth checking out. You might want to skip the anime intro, though, since it seems to spoil some coming characters and whatnot whether you've finished all the current episodes or not.

That's my bit. Hope the massive walls of text don't scare you away, but get wordy when I'm geeking out.

No comments? O.o;

I started reading 2ES. I liked it. xD But I only got about halfway through the archive. @.@;

I haven't watched the videos yet, but I'll have to do that when my computer stops being annoying. Stupid compy. >=(

EDIT: N'ermind. Watched the Opening. It's extremely well done, AND it uses AXESS's theme song, Futatsu no Mirai. O______O; This bears further investigation. =)

MY REVIEWS ARE APPRECIATED.

I loved Rise of the Mushroom Kingdom. Super Mario Bros. Z tops the animation, but Rise of the Mushroom kingdom was just...oh so clever, even thought that's probably my nastalgia talking.

I am, as we speak, TRYING to watch SMBZ with my brother, but a certain aforementioned brother, who shall remain nameless even though he's my brother, has run off to talk to someone who, for reasons unknown, decided it would be a GREAT idea to call at 1:30 in the morning. >=(

But, ooh, good videos. <3 I love Luigi. He's hilarious. xD

Quoting Linko_16: MY REVIEWS ARE APPRECIATED.
