Massively multiplayer online gamers have developed an unsavory reputation in the eyes of many over the years due to their fanatical devotion and often rabid fan base. That untoward perception was enhanced this week, when Russia Today reported a Moscow man was murdered after a real-life confrontation between two rival Lineage II guilds went sour.
After the man's guild reportedly killed a rival's character in-game, the two guilds agreed to have it out in real life. The ensuing brawl left one so badly injured he subsequently died from his injuries in route to a local hospital. The Russia Today report did not indicate whether official charges had been filed, though it did indicate that a 22-year-old man has confessed to the beating.
Russia Today, the English-language service of the government-controlled state news agency RIA-Novosti, also mentions several other recent game-related acts of violence within Russia. A man from Moscow was reportedly recently beaten to death by a gamer from Ukraine in a similar situation of rivals meeting up, and a 20-year-old gamer killed his grandmother after she apparently announced it was time for dinner.
What's this? Internet violence....IN REAL LIFE?
That grandma was a *****.
Make love, not Warcraft. :(
Yeah, people and MMO obsession/devotion is indeed getting out of hand.

I just like picturing that conversation
Granny: Boris, Sweetie, Time for dinner.
Boris: OMFG WOMEN! SHUT THE **** UP!
Granny: I didn't mean to-
Boris: YES YOU ****ING DID! YOU JUST DON'T GET IT.
Granny: When you're done, you can come eat.
Boris: WHY ARE YOU STILL HERE? YOU STUPID PEICE OF-
*pulls out gun*
*bang*
Oddly, I would think that, instead of him shooting her, he'd beat her to death with his keyboard, screaming something to the affect of, "You screwed me up and now I can't rez! It's your fault, Grandma!"
But then, in my head, he jacks off on the corpse.:)
It's Russia. Like this is really all that surprising.
Well, the fact that they have computers that can run a decent looking game is surprising, but that's it.
I thought this was about smash. how disappointed I was to see it wasn't.
Me too. ****ing serfs and their rioting.
Russians don't take **** from old people.
I always thought Russians were so perpetually drunk that they didn't care about ****. I guess stereotypes are WRONG.
When I was playing a lot of Guild Wars, back before any expansions were released, I spent a month in a guild full of Russian players... Glad they were on my team lol. They were fairly calm about losing matches. I Expect more hostility by South Koreans when they lose.
Some people are ****ing pathetic. Just....wow D:
Oh, those crazy kids.
Wait, these were twenty year olds? What the ****
Poor little granny
***, sixteen posts and no 'In Soviet Russia' joke?
