Wii to Computer monitor?

Posted by Malevolence

I haven't posted in these forums in quite awhile, but I figured I could find answers to the question I have.

I've owned a Wii for almost a year, but I find myself barely playing it due to complications with my living room setup (I need to connect the Wii to the TV everytime and position it correctly for a good image. This process is annoying and frustrating at times, which removes the convenience of merely turning on the Wii and playing immediately.) Also, because my TV is pretty sub par, and my computer monitor is quite nice, I thought playing the Wii on that would be a much more enjoyable experience. I was wondering if there is anything I can buy, that would allow me to connect my Wii to my computer monitor, or my Wii to my Computer, and allow me to play it.

Thanks in advance.

Well, I can't really help you, but I'm sure it's possible. I do know that my friend has a few computers hooked up to old TV screens, so I'm sure it's possible to do the reverse.

Hmm well if you have a computer hooked up to the moniter, you can get a TV Tuner. Just go to Best Buy and pick up a cheap one for $50.00(I think thats how much the cheapest are)

You need something to convert from whatever cable you're using, to VGA.

Well, on my 8600 there is a slot, and I have an adapter for it that I think goes to component, although I'm probably mistaken.

Here is what I'm talking about

To the very left.

The cable is in the middle, with the blue, green, and red endings.

I was thinking possibly component cables would allow this type of connection?

Those 2 identical ports are DVI. You can hook to 2 monitors at once, or use an HDMI. The port to the left is S-Video.

That cable your talking about is for HDTV.

I see.

I just thought it was maybe possible, because the adapter is comes with is S-video (that I'd connect to the video card) to Component, in which I'd be able to connect the Wii component cables and connect them that way. Ahaha, desperate thoughts at their finest, most likely?

"Malevolence agrees: You mean DVI slots. "

Yeah what you said. Donno why I was thinking VGA.

Oh no I've gone cross-eyed.

Meh, haste does this. No problem.

Is that a hint that I'm retarded? :(

EDIT: I found this article rather interesting. http://tech.yahoo.com/blogs/hughes/3935;_ylt=ArMZ_ZEcJ7vhr8nVl8Nd.P1tMJA5?comment_start=6&comment_count=20#see_comments

Is using an S video > Component adapter a viable solution to my problem? This is basically all guesses, although I'm wondering why this wouldn't work.

or you could buy a new tv.

actually a tv tuner would be a good option for you, you can get a usb one from comp usa for around fifty or i got a crappy one from new egg for sixteen

however i think there is a wii to vga cord at gamestop, i kno there is for xbawx but im not positive for wii

and i could be wrong but isnt the s video on ur video card output? cuz i got the same card

I was thinking this is my best bet.

Would this be the best decision? I think so, but this is something a little new to me.

EDIT : I think this VGA box looks promising, although I'll link some I've found.

the last link dosent work but the other two would work perfectly

Actually, I really don't think buying a new TV is that bad of an idea. :cookie: Assuming you're not picky, finding one the equivalent of your computer monitor shouldn't be too hard to find cheap.

...Just my two cents.

Well to be honest, it's a much cheaper route to go ahead and get it working on my computer. I just need $65. I don't have much money to go and spend, so a new TV is out of the question. One of the main purposes for connecting it to my monitor is to make my computer desk an "entertainment" center of sorts. Let's not forget to mention that my computer monitor has a very clean picture and would make Zelda look incredible.

The product I'm buying will be linked below. http://www.gamersection.ca/product_info.php?products_id=619

There are stores (Future Shop, Best Buy) that allow you to pay monthly installments on tvs at no additional interest. That's what I'm currently doing with mine, and I'm glad I did.

Although the idea sounds like something I may consider in the future when I'll have money to spend, for now I'm just looking for a cheap medium that will fit my needs.

Thanks for the advice.
