Sound effects are a pretty important part of gaming. They're the reason why picking up all that money is so darned satisfying. They let you know when you've fully powered-up your weapon. They echo when you're in a cave, and are simulated by sophisticated software in your starfighter when you're fighting in space so that you're not left with only silence. Name some of your favorite sound effects from any and all games:
1. Link's full-hearts zap from Zelda 1
2. Sonic the Hedgehog's ring pickup
3. Beam Saber sound effect from original Smash Brothers (japanese version)
4. Mono-Square formation in The New Tetris (N64)
5. Speed boost panel in S.T.U.N. Runner

Do a barrel-roll.
Those popping noises Tingle makes when he walks in WW.
There's just something amusing about the sounds the guards make when you hit/kill them in Goldeneye 64; you know, confronting this guy armed to the teeth with dual ZMGs, firing a single shot at his head, only to have him let out a comical "OOF!" and fall flat on his face. It's even better with fast animation on, or when you kill the more prominent villains like Trevelyan, Ourumov, and (especially) Jaws.
Two other sound effects that I've always liked for some reason are the ones that sound when you die in any of the Genesis Sonic games. The "deeing" sound when you fall into some spikes, or the "gong" sound when you run into anything else. They're just... quirky.
Oh, and the original Yoshi sound effect (the turntable played backwards effect) is a classic. :D
Mario Jump
Mario Coin Get
Mario Fire Flower Fire
Mario Star Get
Mario 3 Leaf Power Up when pressing A rapidly to stay afloat

-Super Metroid when you continue your game and Samus appears
-Most of the battle sounds in X-Wing Alliance for PC(I think using a joystick made these more satisfying)
-Ryu's hurricane kick
Megaman landing jumps (original 1-6)
KOing someone with a kick in Tekken 3. So unrealistic but so satisfying.
Yoshi's goofy tongue noise in Super Mario World.
THE CHRONOSCEPTER. pshooo, wait for it, BOOM
THE ENTIRE GAME OF CHIBI-ROBO
-Ryu's hurricane kick
TATSUMAKI SEPUU-KYAKU!
Oh, and the sound the tri-focal goggles make in Splinter Cell when you turn them on.
The 'cheering' sounds when you beat a level in Feel the Magic XY/XX.
Also, "Objection!" coming from anyone except that first guy from the first PW whose name I can't remember because he's so unimportant

Oh yeah, that little pop noise is satisfying. Especially when those zombie-ninjas with the little pipes were hitting me up.
Skate has some good sound effects too - mainly the grinding sound and the cracking of multiple bones in one fall.
The sound of a full set of rockets firing and the accompanying sound of an entire tank unit exploding - Advance Wars
The whooshing sound a lot of characters make when spinning their weapons before a critical hit - Fire Emblem
The high pitched noise the Adept skill in Path of Radiance makes which basically tells you that instead of dying Soren is going to attack 4 times and save the day.
1-up noise from all the Mario games, SNES has the best sound though.
The high-pitched buzzsaw sound Sonic makes when you're charging up a spin-dash.
The sound of your beam charging in Metroid Prime.
Thought I'd revive this thread to mention... the Call of Duty grenade-hitting-the-floor noise. CLINK CLINK CLINK AAAAAH **** WHERE IS IT
Haha oh yeah. It's a hate/love thing.
An elite dying in Halo is probably the funniest sound in the world. It makes me chuckle every time.
Oh yeah, for sure. I hunt out Elites in multiplayer solely to hear them UlaleuLAualeualeuUALE
I like the noise that the hungry Lumas make in Super Mario Galaxy when you first walk up to them. I can feel my teeth rotting every time I hear it.
Angelwing reminded me how much I like the sound the warrior and dwarf make when they jump in Baldur's Gate 2. When I played it with a friend, we'd hop-race everywhere, and the sound is just hilarious.
That reminds me, I hate nearly every sound any character in a Nintendo game ever made. I swear they make them as annoying as possible.
Really? I always enjoy Mario's WAHOOOOOOOOOOO! shouts.
I'm surprised no one has said this but the victory song in final fantasy.
also i like the needler reloading and shooting noises and when you pull out an energy sword in halo... and the noise a grunt makes when you throw a plasma grenade on one that is sleeping

4: SHUNGOKUSATSU! Street Fighter Alpha 3
5: The music fading out in Extreme-G III when you break the sound barrier
Charles Martinet is generally awesome at being Mario, considering he has to do the voices in the every single Mario and Wario game. I was pretty surprised to hear he was doing a lot of coke at the time of Super Mario 64.
no, really.
I like the sound effects of the DragonballZ Game and the Projesct IGI. Speacially when bullet is fired and that hit a person.
I usually don't notice the sound effects in a game. I'm so used to having them part of it that I forget about it.
But looking back at the games I played, Super Smash Bros (N64) probably had the best sound effects. I think I was enjoying hearing the sound of the beam sword slashing an opponent.
Bullets being fired from rifles in Resident Evil 4.
Good stuff.
The impact is rather nice, too.
Silenced P90 on single-shot in Vegas with coloured tracers turned on. Makes me feel like I'm in Star Wars. Sounds and looks just like it.
1. Tie between the FAMAS and a silenced P90 on single shot. I invented it. :3
2. The energy rapier from System Shock 2 (when it hits).
3. Wario in Mario Kart 64 (in the selection screen).
The noise Bob-omb Buddies make when you talk to them in Super Mario 64.
Those trumpeting noises Twilight Kargarocs make in Twilight Princess.
the noise that comes from the wiimote when you relode the free rifle in resident evil four is pleasing to my ears
