Sonic 2. Great multiplayer and single player. Probably the best music in any Sonic game, too.

Sonic 2 is probably the best one, but I like em all.
3 is better.
Ehh, it's very a close call.
3 is visually better, with richer details in landscapes and backgrounds, which makes the overall environments much more enjoyable and refreshing to spend time in, but 2 fills me with wonderful nostalgia and the multiplayer is way better. Definitely a game she can pick up easily with her friends and have fun with together.
Sonic 2 & Knuckles > Sonic 3 & Knuckles > Sonic 3 > Sonic & Knuckles > Sonic 2 > Sonic.
