... and his name is Kratos.
*** of War is unf*****believable. It's like having everything you liked about Devil May Cry, PLUS a heavy dose of more interactivity in a similar style to Shenmue and Sony's own ICO. R2 serves as the context-sensitive button of the game, which you'll use in many different ways depending on what object you interact with. In battle, to finish off bosses you'll have to stunt them first and then press the right buttons shown quickly on screen. If you fail, you'll either get a countermove from the enemy, or it'll completely heal. It's totally kick ***, and when you add the wide range of possibilities for combos with two attack buttons plus magic, the game becomes more fun to play, which I didn't think was possible. Add the catchy style of the moves Cratos does, plus the mythology war-like music, and you feel like tearing a new one at anything that moves.
I can't wait for it to come out now. Right now I'm fighting end boss of the level, I presume. It's simply amazing. Thank you, Sony.
I think I hate you.
I think I really hate you, Big Boss! Oh hell, meat mister original! LOL Hi conejita!
It's currently my most anticapated game, even over Jade Empire and Legend Of Zelda, it looks totally kickass as Big Boss has described.
The only actual worry I have is the fact that there's supposely no load screens throughout the game itself, good idea, but it may cause major slowdowns if they do it that way.
Hows the difficulty setting of God Of War(Or the demo, at least), Big Boss, is it preset or do you set it yourself and if preset how difficult is it thus far on the demo?
Oh, and I envy you, how did you get your demo copy, anyway?
When is this one coming out? I saw the preview on the OPM disc but the combat seemed repetitive...? Is there a demo out?
I got the demo from a classmate in game design who pre-ordered the game.
The difficulty is set, and is not too difficult but definitely not easy. I have yet to beat the last boss, which is a giant hydra next to two smaller hydras, since I was running late for class. However, the mini-bosses were somewhat challenging, and killing them with cool moves was definitely rewarding. The concept of hitting a sequence of buttons at specific times, by holding or tapping them, makes fighting a lot of fun.
The game's out on March 22, hopefully. It was originally going to be released in January, but I'm glad they put it off to work on it more. If the whole game is like the demo, then this is surely one of the best games of the year, like Ninja Gaiden was last year.
Gah, I'm so looking forward to this game. It looks so slick and fun. Though I thought it was coming out at a later date for some reason...
This game is one of the reasons why I curse myself for being below seventeen years of age. :(
I tell ya, for a greek mythology nut like me this game is a blessing, Sony must really love me. From what i've read on GameInformer, the story follows Kratos who has made it his mission to hunt down one of the most powerful gods(Ares), slain him, and take his place as the new God of War. Whoa. Talk about the definition of awesome.
Where did your classmate preorder the game, Gamestop or EBgames? If i had known this yesterday when i stopped by Gamestop i wouldn't be writting here right now, in fact, i probably would have skipped work altogether :D.
He pre-ordered the game at GameStop, but I just found out today that's not the only way to get it.
Sony sent me the demo, for being a G.A.P./PSU member, but to my old address. So if you're either one, you should have one, too.
I realy dont like games like this (for example Devil May Cry type of games.) But knowing that the PS2 might be done next year. I will probably end up buying this one. It looks pretty good.
Im a G.A.P member and I did not get a demo on that game...
I must agree with you gow looks great. But comeon, we all know there is only one true ***, and he sent a part of himself, his son, to die on the cross. That is the real ***.
But yes, twisted metal is amazing, and this game will be too. Don't get too excited though, overhyping games really doesn't help. But it's hard NOT to be hyped, this could be the deal clincher for me to finally break down and buy a new game for the year (currently no games this year, nothing gets my interest).
And twisted metal was so, so, good.
But yes, twisted metal is amazingwtf?
G0d of War does look pretty awesome. It should be the next great action adventure game I've been waiting for for a while
I was serious about it. I was merely saying it because I feel that is what I had to do. I'm not attacking rayden, he made an awesome post (save for the gow is my new *** part), and I repped him for it. It's just a part of my belief system, a system which does not include judging people.
Twisted Metal was the series created by incog inc. The same team that is doing gow. So I had to give it hype solely based on that series, because it was awesome (however, when EA got the license, I did NOT like the games).
David Jaffe and its Sony Santa Monica team OWN!
IGN 9.8 out of 10
Game Informer 10 out of 10
Play Magazine 9.5 out of 10
GameSpot 9.3 out of 10

I'll be posting the reviews as they become available.
I can't wait ;_;
Seriously, the more and more I see it, and the more reviews I read, I can't wait any longer to play it. It sounds so ***dly. Especially when I didn't think it would be THIS good. I expected in the low nines, or high eights. Not the high nines or perfect.
GameStop sucks.
UPS hasn't delivered the game, and it's the 22nd.
I'd buy it someplace else if I didn't have a 10% off coupon.
I will probably get this one. I dont like these kinds of games but Its worth a try. Coming from Big Boss it does sound pretty **** cool.
I got it yesterday (as in the 23 since it's two am right now)... and I haven't even opened it yet. I haven't had a chance, and probably won't for at least five days. Depressing...
I probably wont get it till my bros birthday or if I can make some money this summer.
I got it today, and saved 5 bucks.
It's the most orgasmic gaming experience I've ever had, and I'm only up to the impressive part where you first see Ares. The soundtrack is jaw dropping (check the back of your manual), and the variety of combos and moves I can do is unbelievable, and I've only upgraded the blades once. I am overwhelmed about all the stuff I will be able to pull off once I get further into the game.
*** of War is truly the title that defines the PS2. Bye bye, loading times. :)
Kratos just had se x with 2 big breasted greek women as compensation for defeating the giant Hydra. He IS my new Go d.
This item will be released on June 24, 2005.
:(
Bebop: Gameplay is the reason why the game is so great in the first place. Otherwise all the other elements I mentioned are worthless.
Well I got My PSM Magazine today and I got the Demo with it. Man the game kicks ***. Im will most definetally get it one of these days. Anyways here is what the Demo cover looked like.

So, is he really violent? Cause I like violence :)
Yeah it is a pretty violent game. Pressing the circle button will rip your enemy apart, witch is pretty cool. I still cant wate to get it.
I finished the game last night, it took me 9 and a half hours to beat it. Now that i've seen most of what this game has to offer i can safely say, and you can quote me on this:
The game is perfect.
Despite the short length of the entire game, all the extras will keep you coming back for at least a second time. I'm replaying the game now on the insane "***" difficulty. The challenge is forcing me to discover new combos i never knew i could do.
i can't beat the hydra; i think i know what to do, but i think i'm missing something...can anyone help me?
Use the search function, next time you think of posting.
You face the Hydra three times in the first level. Which time are you talking about?
I finally got the game, it's just plain wicked, I was completely blown away by how great it was, the graphics and music completely blew me away.
It totally sucks you into the game, great potrayal of Greek Mythology, truely a great game, I've just began, but, man this game easily rocks.
I finished the game earlier today when I played from 12:00AM to 7:00AM. Other than a very EVIL PoP-like puzzle with a giant, blade-filled circling tower, this game is perfect. The final battle was ridiculously challenging, and I can't imagine how hard Hard mode alone must be, let alone *** mode.
From beginning to end it is a masterpiece.
Is there some sort of way to age myself three years so I can get it? The game is freakin' awesome, all I've played is the Hydra battle (courtesy of PSM), and I love it.
DAMN THE ESRB COMITEE!
No one will let you buy it? Why not ask your parents to, unless they won't, or perhaps if you have older siblings/friends.
I've yet to even try this game out, but it does look quite interesting, and seeing all of the positive replies here, it looks like I'll have to pick it up when the price drops.
Now everyone, please just let me say my piece without any trouble. Don't get me wrong, Ive never played the game but I think all of you guys are getting a little out of hand here. Yes, I do love the earliest and latest devil may cry releases if you can't already tell by my name, and from the looks of the videos Ive seen GOW looks like it gives devil may cry a run for its money. However, i would like to point out that the inspiration for GOW was Devil may cry. DMC was the first game in a long time to show gamers the most over the top impossible maneuvers they had seen in a while. And I'm most positive that the supposed difficulty of DMC 3 was what gave GOW the edge it needed to possibly compare. But, to make all of you feel better, I'm going to buy GOW and find out for myself and who knows? I might feel differently after wrapping my fingers around the controllers with GOW in the Playstation. But, until that time DMC wins for me because GOW copied: the gameplay, the idea of using a mythological theme(demons are mythology because they don't exist), and the idea for an awesome character. Thanks
Sorry, what? Myths and legends are public domain. That's like saying DMC ripped off Count Duckula.
Virgil i love devil may cry more than you or anyone here on this forum, but dude GOW is no better or no worse...and yea wings is right Demons and s are free for all to use, Zelda and other games use mythology so think about it again friend.
*anxiously waits for UK release*

I guess you guys are both right. I guess I was a little frustrated because almost everyone I know is knocking off DMC just for a demo of GOW
Onimusha, Metal Gear Solid and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past served as inspiration for GoW.
As far as Greek Mythology is concerned, David Jaffe borrowed from Edith Hamilton's Mythology, which according to him includes the stories covered by both The Iliad and The Odyssey, two of my favorite books around.
Everyone bow down to me, for i Paul Cesar have just conquered G0D mode. I have been playing games for as long as i can remember, but i've never come across a challenge like the last 3 battles in G0D mode. After hours and hours of retries, palms sweating, and controllers flying around the room almost destroying my T.V, i made it. You cannot call yourself a true gamer until you beat the Kratos clones at the end of the game, no kidding.
Thanks. The prize for defeating G0D mode was kinda cheesy, but pretty cool nonetheless. It's great that the developers took the time and went out of their way like that. PM me if you wanna know what it is.
It'll be a short film of the entire production team saying 'thanks' individually, right?
In the little time I have, I'm playing Hard mode. I figure it's better practice before tackling evil God mode.
I finally beat the game on Normal.
I finally got around to playing my demo of the Hydra level, and man, this game....indescribable. It's so bloody, and badass, and oooohhhh. Kratos must move forward, not backward, up, not down, and always twirling...
OMG best Easter Egg ever!
If you live in the States, call 1-888-447-5594.
HAHAHAHAHA!
What does it do, if you don't mind me asking?
Yeah, I'd just rather not call the number...
I have not yet mastered *** of war but i'm working on *** mode and it is by far the most challenging game I have ever played next to The Suffering
Vamp: Do it.
I hope they change it to an 0800 number for the UK version. I'm working like crazy to try and fix my PS2 before this is out.
Unless it's a CD-based game, which means that it'll be able to play it anyway...
Most likely the reason Vamp asked was because he doesn't live in the states. Neither do I, so I'd be interested in knowing, as well.
*cough* he lives in Ontario.
Don't put it here, though. I'm sure a quick Google will sort it out for those who want spoilers.
*** of war is great. I played it on Demo about a month ago and I desperatly want to get it. I cant wate to get it, hopefully my parents will let me sell some old games and some old crap over e-bay.
I want to find it out for myself when I get the game.
But first I need to fix this lousy machine... *kicks his PS2*
Ah, that easter egg was so great, and it's okay that I cheated, because I'll probably never get the game. :(
Kratos is so badass....when he's twirling, always twirling.....
A little something I found that's extremely hard to spot with the naked eye. Alright, on the cover of *** of War (Box), look under his right leg on the red skirt, it says CWEN. Charlie Wen, who is one of the members of the *** of War team. And on the blade handle, in Kratos' left hand.
Since the thread was brought back to light, I feel I must reiterate the entire thread:
*** of War is so awesome.
boomstick: Now that is something to think about. :D
