New Ulver

Posted by Omni

Quoting Ulver's official site: Many of you have been waiting for sound, and we are sorry for the silence. We needed to be alone, without the hustle and bustle of the living. We are uncomfortable with the world, the industry and our place. We have been working, sluggishly, well aware we could end up with nothing. Nonetheless we believe we have succeeded in giving our fears some kind of form. SHADOWS OF THE SUN, our 7th full-length album, is finished and will be released October 1st. We feel it is our most personal record to date. Low-key, dark, and tragic. As we are.

I wonder what style of music this album will be. I really like Blood Inside, though a lot of their fans don't, so I hope it will be something similar to that album. Of course, I'm sure they've come up with all sorts of new tricks for this album.

Doubtful. Blood Inside wasn't "low-key, dark, and tragic" far from it really. Plus, they usually change their sound from one album to the next. Really excited for this.

Yeah, it should be good.

I meant in terms of the extremely weird, layered music with influences from all kinds of unusual styles of music, not the mood of the album. I'm sure it will be different, I just hope it will follow that kind of pattern.

Posted by Vampiro V. Empire

I hope not =/ No more avant-garde please.

Posted by Vampnagel P. Wingpire

I hope it's not black. :(

Posted by Omni

I don't think there's any way that they'd revert back to black metal. It would be interesting, but I doubt it will actually happen.

Posted by Vampiro V. Empire

Yeah, no chance in hell. That chapter is long closed, and they really only released one real black metal release. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a more "groove" oriented dark ambient release or something akin to that. Maybe a mix between dark ambient and Blood Inside?

Posted by Omni

That would be incredible, especially if it had creepy multi-layered vocals. I love when he does that.

Posted by Klarth

Please be trip-hop.

Posted by Grave Wisdom

Whatever it is, i'm sure it'll be excellent. Garm is yet to fail *slurp slurp slurp*, and I don't expect him to anytime soon.

Posted by Klarth

1. Eos
2. All the Love
3. Like Music
4. Vigil
5. Shadows of the Sun
6. Let the Children Go
7. Solitude
8. Funebrae
9. What Happened?

Posted by Omni

Ah, I like that cover, and some of the track titles are interesting.

Posted by Grave Wisdom

Can't wait till it gets lea...released!

hopefully it'll have at least SOME guitar, even if it isn't a direct continuation of the Blood Inside sound.

Posted by Vampiro V. Empire

I like the track titles and I like the album cover. So far so good.

[quote=Wikipedia]In an interview with Music Information Centre Norway, Ulver member Tore Ylwizaker commented on the forthcoming album. He said it would be downplayed and inspired by chamber music in both style and crew. Ylwizaker also took a year off to study classical composers and composition techniques, while claiming to take a particular liking to Igor Stravinsky's The Firebird. The album comprises of Kristoffer Rygg's vocals, calm electronics and natural percussion, while artists like Pamelia Kurstin contribute with instruments like the theremin. Furthermore, Christian Fennesz, an Austrian white noise musician, has added touches of his associate, the English singer, musician and composer David Sylvian's soft style, helping Ulver to correspond with their vision on the final product.

Sounds cool to me. I'm sure there will be some kind of interesting twist to this album.

Posted by Grave Wisdom

Yup, pretty safe to say it'll completely kick ***.

Posted by Klarth

Sounds like it'll be somewhere between darkwave, downtempo and trip-hop. Exciting.

New song, "Vigil", has been released. It's like Perdition City mashed up with Teachings In Silence.

IT'S AMAZING. IT'S ABSOLUTELY BLOODY FANTASTIC.

Posted by Grave Wisdom

AWW CRAP,I just came.

Good stuff.

Posted by Vampiro V. Empire

They definitely described it pretty accurately. Very nice.

Posted by Omni

Huh, I'm loving this.

Posted by Klarth

There's a special prerelease party in New York on the 20th of September. I have a friend (lucky bastard) who's attending; he'll upload a rip afterwards.

Posted by Omni

Haha, we'll have the first leak?

Posted by Grave Wisdom

I am totally stroking off in anticipation.

Posted by Shade

I'm liking the new song.

Posted by Klarth

Quoting Omni: Haha, we'll have the first leak?

Hey, didn't we have the same thing with Alcest?

Posted by Grave Wisdom

Thanks to a certain somebody ;)

Posted by Vampiro V. Empire

VGC: THE ONE AND ONLY SOURCE FOR ALL YOUR MUSIC NEEDS

Posted by Shade

It's awesome because it's true.

Posted by Grave Wisdom

Seems that way sometimes.

Posted by Klarth

So we were first for Alcest, first for that Ayreon demo and first for Ulver...

We're so awesome.

Posted by Vampiro V. Empire

this would be a good time to have that awesome emoticon

Posted by Omni

"Solitude" on this album is listed as a Black Sabbath cover in MA. Weird.

Posted by Klarth

Vinyl art. I want this on a shirt.

Also, "Funebre" (previously incorrectly announced by The End as Funebrae) has replaced "Vigil" on Ulver's Myspace page.

"Solitude" is apparently a Black Sabbath cover.

Posted by Phantasm

Oh christ. Just listened to the new song.

So ***ly :_:

Good music for me to sleep.

Posted by Vampiro V. Empire

Quoted post: Vinyl art. I want this on a shirt.

Indeed. It's actually perfect for a shirt.

Posted by Shin-Ra

Ew WMA. I'll just be patient until an mp3 leak comes out.

Posted by Vampiro V. Empire

better than nothing, and luckily itunes converts it pretty quickly.

Posted by Shin-Ra

My iTunes doesn't even recognize it, let alone convert it.

Posted by Vampiro V. Empire

Either update it or go to your settings. Anything my itunes doesn't recognize gets converted to MP3.

Posted by Omni

Apparently that's a really low quality rip from what I read. I'll wait for a good one.

Posted by Klarth

I'll have one in three days.

Posted by Vampiro V. Empire

Quoted post: Apparently that's a really low quality rip from what I read. I'll wait for a good one.

idk, sounds more than fine to me =/

Posted by Klarth

I've heard nothing but *****ing about it.

Either way, lol ew wma

Posted by Vampiro V. Empire

I guess black metal has ruined my ears :(

Posted by Grave Wisdom

Looks like this'll be a loooooooooooooong night. There's probably an Mp3 leak out there already...just a matter of finding one.

Posted by Klarth

A 320kbs leak surfaced about ten hours ago, apparently. Someone find it and upload it for me!

Posted by Grave Wisdom

Didn't find yet, but at least I found the Xasthur/Cryostasium split.

Edit: Nevermind, found the Ulver Mp3 rip also.

Posted by Omni

Those had better both be uploaded by the time I navigate from here to my blog.

Posted by Klarth

Well this is ****ing amazing.

Posted by Vampiro V. Empire

I wasn't that impressed. Above Blood Inside, below Perdition.

Posted by Shade

I like it the most out of the ones I have. Pretty good.

Posted by Omni

It's really relaxing, but it could have been a little better.

Posted by Grave Wisdom

I think I like Blood Inside better. Gotta give it a few more listens.

Posted by Shin-Ra

Quoting netman: I want this on a shirt.

http://www.theomegaorder.com/s.nl/it.A/id.17696/.f

Already ordered mine.

Posted by Klarth

wtf, they won't accept my card. :(

/me cancels order, weeps

Posted by Vampnagel P. Wingpire

I was pretty bored with it. Expected a lot more.

Posted by Shin-Ra

I'm satisfied enough with it. I mean it's good, but they really could have done a lot more with it. Honestly, I was expecting something comparable to earlier Dead Can Dance without the World Music element and more of a dark ambiance.

Posted by Clandestine Blaze

I enjoy alot of the tracks off of this album.
Surpassed my expectations.
