E3 2007 Awards: Yours and Theirs

Posted by Big Boss

I felt E3 came and went faster that you could blink. It could've been because all three major conferences were within 14 hours or so from each other, or maybe because I just wasn't checking much of the event after the first couple of days (Iron Man game footage, WTF?!)

So, I'll probably be posting any "awards" I come across from this year's E3. You're more than welcome to make up your own, like "Best way to get fatasses to play your system: Nintendo with Wii Fit," or something. Or, if you come across some gamesite's E3 awards that haven't been posted, go ahead and put it here. That way we'll get a feeling for, at least, what the media reaction was to the event's content and the games to come.

I'll start. I don't have a clue what Geek Magazine is, but hey, two Midway games (one being done in our studio) got pretty good feedback here, so it caught my eye:
Best Game We Got To Play: Stranglehold.

- Woooooooo!
Runner-Up #2: Assassin’s Creed.

Best Game We Got To Watch Someone Else Play: Halo 3
Runner-Up #2: the still unnamed F.E.A.R. sequel.

Best Game We Don’t Actually Want To Play (And Don’t Think You Will Either): Wii Fit
Runner-Up: All Pro Football 2K8.

Best Trailer: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
Runner-Up: Resident Evil 5.
Runner-Up #2: Metal Gear Solid 4.

halo3.jpgBiggest Relief: Halo 3 single-player looks much better than multiplayer
Runner-Up: Sega’s Iron Man game actually looks good.
Runner-Up #2: Assassin’s Creed actually plays good.

Biggest “Duh, really?” Moment: Nintendo announcing Mario Kart for the Wii
Runner-Up: Konami announcing Silent Hill 5
Runner-Up #2: Sony announcing a redesigned PSP

Best Star Wars News: That a special, limited edition version of Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron would come with an otherwise unavailable white PSP with Darth Vader on the back
Runner-Up: They’ve finally realized that they need to make a lightsaber game for the Wii

Worst Star Wars News: They still haven’t realized that they need to make my proposed stealth-action/puzzle game, R2-D2: The True Hero Of The Star Wars Saga

Biggest Question Mark: Will Killzone 2 play as good as it looks, or suck like Killzone?
Runner-up: Will Metal Gear Solid 4 really look like the trailers?

Best Celebrity Sighting: Slash, at Activision’s press conference, touting his role in Guitar Hero III
Runner-Up: Stan Lee, at Activision’s press conference, touting Spider-man: Friend Or Foe.

Worst Celebrity Sighting: Chewbacca
during Sony’s press conference (but only because we owe him $32.50)

Funniest Moment: Sony Computer Entertainment America President/CEO Jack Tretton, during Sony’s press conference, referring to his company as “Suny.”
Runner-Up: Wii Fit telling Nintendo Of America President CEO Reggie Fils-Aime that he’s overweight.

Biggest surprise:

... Yeah.

Wai, it's already over?

So much for that mass update for SSBB everyone expected.

So uh, Biggest Letdown: SSBB, or lack thereof :cookie:

Posted by Linko_16

Those awards actually aren't terrible. Not the usual ones where you sit back and say "WTF, HOW COULD THEY GIVE [insert game] THE [insert award] INSTEAD OF [insert other game]."

Game of the Show: CoD4. Seriously, that game is beautiful.

Nothing at all that made me go 'OH SHI-'. Last year set the bar exceedingly high.

Quoting Bebop: Personally I found this years e3 pretty dull.

So damn true. It was mostly games, , most games we knew about before E-3. The biggest Non-game things were WiiFit , which is some what cool but ninty should of showed more possibilities then working out (such as snow boarding or aplications using with the normal controller). The PsP lite which was a no brainer.

But I guess in my head PS3 won, Ninty could of won if they sold the wii fit better and had less montages. MS was pretty under whelming all together

I have no idea what this means, yet you've said it twice today. Stop it.

That's because they had Pre-E3 events which showcased basically, well, everything from E3 a month before it occurred =/ MS played it way too safe and treated it like an infomercial, Nintendo's just sucked and they celebrated themselves way too much... though Sony's was actually pretty good. Huh.

What's with leaving out the Best Racing Game awards from IGN and Gamespot?

Posted by Vampiro V. Empire

No gives a **** about racing. Plus, Paradise likely won.

Posted by Big Boss

Quoting Vampiro V. Empire: No gives a **** about racing. Plus, Paradise likely won.

Pretty much. That's why I posted the link so people can see the rest, but I basically just quoted stuff that's interesting to me and general stuff that anyone would like here (Game of the Year, Action Adventure). I usually skip racing and MMOs, and only care about the former if it's F-Zero or Wipeout. I also skipped system-specific winners, as the selection generally isn't that big.

WHAT THE ****

Posted by Tiptoegecko

The best news of E3 was the official announcement of Silent Hill 5. Otherwise, blah to the rest of the show.

Posted by Vampiro V. Empire

Heck yeah. I was more excited for that trailer than RE5.

Posted by Speedfreak

Silent Hill 5 is exciting until you find out who's making it.

Posted by Vampiro V. Empire

Uh... wait, why isn't Team Silent making it?

Posted by Speedfreak

Because apparantly Konami is the dumbest developer in the universe.

Posted by Roger Smith

Solid Eye anyone?

Posted by Vampiro V. Empire

Quoted post: WHAT THE ****

Think Jam Sessions except, apparently, a hell of a lot more in-depth and better designed. Also, it's going to sell millions.

Posted by Anti-Muffla

I was surprised that Killzone 2 actually looks like fun! Also, I liked the new Mass Effect trailer, looks kicka$$! Infamous looks pretty cool, too. I had a couple "OH $hit" moments during the E3. RE5 footage, Infamous, the MGS 4 trailer, the Killzone 2 footage. E3 was pretty satisfying to me this year.
