Original Post: [quote]Hello there, I am Ned Hampson. I am a member in the fight against violence and sexuality in video games.

Video games, in today's era, have destroyed our youth. They feature sexual themes and violence. These games are INTENDED for children! Our children do not need to see these things!

Those RPG's and FPS games have kept our children from doing their homework because they are so addictive. Kids will find any excuse to not do their homework in order to play these games! This is not right! We need to fight against this!

It was because of first person shooters that incidents like Columbine happened, and Virginia Tech. This is because these kids are seen through the eyes of the shooter in the game, and they find pleasure in shooting the on-screen characters.

If that isn't enough, here are some real life examples which are due to violence in video games!
[list]
On April 20, 1999, American high school students Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold killed 13 people and themselves in the Columbine High School massacre. The pair had been fans of the Doom and Wolfenstein 3D video games.
[*] In November 2001, 21-year-old American Shawn Woolley committed suicide after what his mother claimed was an addiction to Everquest.[6]
[*] On June 7, 2003, 18-year-old American Devin Moore shot and killed three police officers after grabbing one of the officers' weapons following an arrest for the possession of a stolen vehicle. At trial, the defense claimed that Moore had been inspired by the video game Grand Theft Auto III.[7]
[*] On June 25, 2003, two American step brothers, Joshua and William Buckner, aged 14 and 16, respectively, used a rifle to fire at vehicles on Interstate 40 in Tennessee, killing a 45-year-old man and a wounding a 19-year-old woman. The two shooters claimed to have been inspired by Grand Theft Auto III.[8]
[*] In October of 2004, a 41-year-old Chinese man named Qiu Chengwei stabbed 26-year-old Zhu Caoyuan to death over a dispute regarding the sale of a virtual weapon the two had jointly won in the game Legend of Mir 3.[9]
[*] In August 2005, the four-month-old daughter of a South Korean couple died after being left unattended for five hours while her parents played World of Warcraft at an Internet cafe.[10]
[*] In August 2005, a 28-year-old South Korean man died after playing Starcraft for 50 hours straight.[11]
[*] In April, 2007, Seung Hui Cho, 23, of Virginia Tech, killed 33 people in a school shooting. Outspoken attorney Jack Thompson appeared on television claiming the then-unnamed shooter "must have" trained on violent video games. After the shooter was named to be Seung Hui Cho, Jack Thompson claimed he trained specifically on the computer game Counter Strike. This was later found to be untrue, and that the shooter had rarely played video games if ever.[12] Some saw this as an anti-videogame propaganda as an attempt to fuel the debate even more.
