if you started at the top i'm sure it would go for at least a solid 2 mins or so before it made it down. without going all geeky and calculating the angular velocities and transfer of energy, I'd say its plausable.
Perhaps if an escalator were developed specifically to be timed for this. Some rich guy should do it.
Not worth it unless it goes for all eternity.

I have two slinkies at work, but the escalator stairs are probably too wide to even make it to the next step.
