NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (AP) - Two stray cats got into a house and attacked three people inside, then were euthanized and checked for rabies, authorities said. The cats entered Melissa Breva's house through an open front door on Monday, and attacked two women visitors and a boy, authorities said.
"I thought I had seen it all, but I have never seen anything like this," Chief of Police Martin Gutschenritter said.
Animal control officer John Pettit responded to a call for help, Gutschenritter said.
One woman was scratched and bitten on her legs; the other woman was bitten on her right calf, authorities said.
After talking to them, Pettit went to his truck for snares, then heard screaming from inside the house.
"When he ran back, he saw a young male with blood over his face," Gutschenritter said. "He was bitten on his forehead, nose, left ear and right cheek."
After some first aid from Pettit, the three were taken to Great Plains Regional Medical Center.
When investigator John Stadler arrived and opened the bedroom door, "he saw a gray and white cat baring its teeth in attack mode," Gutschenritter said. "He shut the bedroom door and returned to his car for a dart gun."
Both cats were shot, tranquilized and taken to the animal shelter, where they were euthanized.
The bodies were sent to Lincoln for rabies checks, Gutschenritter said.
Authorities want to find out who owned the cats. Under a city ordinance, cats may run free if they don't become nuisances.

Yeah, that is some pretty bizarre stuff. I hope they find out who owned the cats, too. I'm sure the owner is wondering where they are, too. LOL...funny stuff.
CATS HAVE EYES
This is it. The feline world conquest begins.

I Heard on the news one day about an elderly woman being attacked by 2 stray pitbulls, but cats...that's odd. funny though.

So two women and a boy can't ward off two stray cats by themselves inside a house, with undoubtedly a wide variety of items that could be used as weapons and shields? Even if they're a flurry of claws and fangs, they're still a mere fraction of the size of a grown adult. Humans can be such pussies. No pun intended.

Anyone that gets their *** kicked by a cat deserves it.

As someone who has worked with animals for years in a clinic, I can safely say many of you lot would probably have suffered injuries similar to those of the people in the home. Cats are incredibly difficult to control, even when restrained. And when they catch you off-guard in your own house, running free, they're going to be able to hurt you. Those people were probably lucky they didn't get any more wounds than they did.

There is nothing as difficult as a ****ed-off cat. Seriously, I've got my share of nicks and scratches from cats restrained by three people. They can be really crazy. :/

cats are evil. we had a stray take up residency behind one of the sheds in our yard a few years back. ended up having kittens and then abandoning them. my dad crawled back there to take the kittens out and give them away and they nearly bit his fingers off. he ended up flinging one up over the roof of the shed (by accident, i think) when it bit him and he freaked out. stupid thing landed in the pool and we had to fish it out with the skimmer net thing.

needless to say, cats are not welcomed in my family.

*** I hate cats. Just go after them with a high power super soaker. Quite fun

cats rule

That's the first I've heard of cats entering into a house unwanted and attacking people, though. I've gotten a pretty gored up hand from a cat once, and he didn't even have front claws. :/

Anyways, eh..I had a cat once, he was calm and rarely scratched anyone. But I know a lot of cats who go crazy for no reason. My mum's friend's cat just randomly attacked my head once. xD It was funny though, it started to claw my hair.

What's got into that cat?!

Posted by Oforia

If I were then I would just run in another room and shut the door.

If hated cats, like many of you, I would just continue to stomp on it until it goes away.

Hey, I like cats. Anyone who dislikes cats is an idiot, even moreso if they shoot them with water guns to torture them or stomp on them. :(

Let me re-phrase that. I like cats. Many people here don't. If I were many people here, I would just stomp in it. Since I am not like many other people here, I just get away from them, or put on some gloves, pick it up, and put it out of my house.

Not to mention that cat's mouths are loaded with bacteria, and that their extremely sharp teeth can penetrate very deep. Most of the time, cat bites get infected. If not treated promptly, there is a possibility of amputation. So personally, I'm afraid of getting bitten by a cat.

Sure, if strange cats came into my house, I'd throw on some gloves, grab a weapon and chase them out. But if they have rabies (as it sounds to be the case in this story) then it's a completely different situation.
