Internet Connection Sharing
Posted by Sean FuryI completely forgot how I enabled my connection to be shared in the first place and I'd like to change it back so that it is no longer "Shared". Any ideas?
Posted by Proto ManOk, go into Control Panel and in there to into Network Connection settings.
Double click on whatever your internet/network connection is. Then under the connection status window that comes up, click the properties button. Under that window, click the Advanced tab, and uncheck ICS.
Posted by Sean FuryEh, under that Advanced tab, I just have Windows Firewall, nothing else.

Eh, under your network connection properties under the advanced tab? Yes there is Windows Firewall, and then under that should be ICS. Are you sure your under the connection that you use for internet? And why aren't you on AIM?

Posted by Sean FuryYeah, that part has never been there for some reason. Weird.
And I'm never on AIM anymore. >_>

Well if it isn't a listed option there, why are you worried about it then?
ICS is apart of the firewall service, if you don't use Windows Firewall, there IS something else you could try.
Posted by Sean FuryI have Windows Firewall, but it's always turned off.

Posted by Proto ManGo back into control panel, and this time go into Administration. in there go into Services. Look for the service that says Windows Firewall/ICS What does it say? Does it say started?
Posted by Sean FuryYeah, it says started.
Posted by Proto Man
Quoting Sean Fury: Yeah, it says started.
Ok, stop it, then double click it and disable it, and see what happens.
Posted by TriggerIs the computer you are looking at the one which had Internet Connection Sharing enabled in the first place?

Alright, I'll see what happens tonight than.
Quoting Trigger: Is the computer you are looking at the one which had Internet Connection Sharing enabled in the first place?
Yes.
Posted by Sean FuryDouble post zomg
Yeah, so everything I've tried so far has failed, any suggestions that don't require me to log into AIM?

And what is so bad about logging into AIM?
Also, you did follow what I said about stopping and then disabling Windows Firewall/ICS?
If so... then the only thing I can think of is re-installing your NIC.
Posted by Sean FuryYeah, I tried all things involving my Windows Firewall, no go so far.

Quoting Sean Fury: Yeah, I tried all things involving my Windows Firewall, no go so far.
That includes the part where you disabled that thing in administration and services right?
Also you didn't answer my first question. :p:
Anyhow like I said, try re-installing your NIC. It can't hurt.

I told him to do that already. His screenshot shows the ICS option as not being there, which is very perplexing. I don't have a clue why it's not there.

Mine isn't there either, as I checked yesterday to try to connect to Xbox Live through my laptop. I'd like to find out how to fix this too.
